Policing, as a topic, is complicated. Many have strong views as to what police should or should not be doing and how effectively they are doing it. Too often policing has become polarized with various perspectives disagreeing as to the future of policing. Black Lives Matter, Defund the Police, and Policing Abolition movements are on one spectrum compared to the Blue Lives Matter Movement or other mayoral or police union initiatives. This is clearly a time to collaborate and learn from the various perspectives to bring hope and change in the future. Lawyers, academics, community members, and police officers alike …

This Note explores the origin and development of 8 U.S.C. § 1225—a heavily debated facet of the United States’ immigration law. Section 1225, colloquially referred to as the “expedited removal process,” has been interpreted to permit low-level immigration officers to summarily remove certain “arriving” noncitizens from the United States without affording them the procedural due process protections guaranteed under the Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution to all individuals present in the United States. This Note posits that the current interpretation of § 1225, particularly the interpretation of “is arriving,” and application of the expedited removal process is inconsistent …

Real-World Use Of Bevacizumab For Treatment Of Advanced Ovarian Cancer Among Elderly Women In The U.S., Janet S. Hildebrand

Bevacizumab, a targeted VEGF inhibitor, is recommended for treatment of advanced ovarian cancer based on clinical trials demonstrating improved progression-free survival when added to standard chemotherapy. This study describes demographic, clinical and social factors, and outcomes associated with bevacizumab use among ovarian cancer patients in the US Medicare 5% sample. Kaplan-Meier curves and propensity score-weighted Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate overall survival (OS) comparing bevacizumab to non-bevacizumab regimens. Of 3,760 patients with a principal diagnosis of ovarian cancer from 2016 to 2019, 1,508 had at least one observed line of chemotherapy; 457 had a second line following …

Objective: Young autistic adults often struggle with soft skills essential for community engagement. Identifying services for soft skills training is challenging, limiting their community involvement. This quality improvement project aims to address the need for soft skills training to enhance social interaction for young autistic adults.

Methods: A needs assessment was conducted with stakeholders from the Adult Day Program at Avondale House in Houston, TX, to gather information on current resources, training, and clients' ability to apply skills in the community. This study explored the unique leadership journeys of Latinx women holding principal positions in K-12 schools across New Jersey. The research findings revealed that these women's career paths were significantly influenced by their social identity characteristics, specifically as female Latinx individuals. The study serves as a crucial reminder to challenge and eliminate negative perceptions and biases towards Latina school principals and their leadership growth and methodologies. The study focused on the leadership journeys of Latinx women holding principal positions in K-12 schools in New Jersey. In this mixed methods research study, I use student survey and interview data from English 11 students at a suburban, public high school to analyze the ways in which students' self-efficacy is impacted when a feedback intervention is introduced that creates the opportunity for students to ask questions about their writing. In this study, I found that as a result of the intervention students showed an increase in their writer-centered efficacy beliefs, reported an awareness of the control and autonomy the intervention provided, and expressed an appreciation for the ways in which teacher feedback can be useful in helping them …

Scholars have studied wars and their causes for centuries, but what happens when the tanks roll out and the guns stop firing? The concept of reconciliation is a relatively new field of study in international relations, and the scholarship of specific transitional justice mechanisms remains underdeveloped. I comparatively analyze the differences between external and internal peacebuilding strategies – specifically the effectiveness of international tribunals in establishing long term deep reconciliation. In defining internal and external transitional justice mechanisms, I differentiate between a reconciliation process that prioritizes rebuilding citizens’ lives over one that prioritizes the desires of the international community. Women’s hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has greatly improved treatment options for women suffering from infertility and menopause-related osteoporosis, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, and vaginal atrophy. The contrivance of HRT transpired in the early 20th century, beginning with the discovery and isolation of well-known hormones estrogen and progesterone. These breakthroughs produced a flurry of new research and a budding, new branch of medicine. With its increasing popularity, HRT faced scrutiny and controversy. Introduction: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The pathogenesis of psoriasis has been associated with an increase of oxidative stress. Therefore, natural antioxidant compounds (e.g., phenolics and flavonoids) might be beneficially used as an adjuvant. Ruean-Khi-Nok (RKN) remedy is a Thai traditional preparation used to treat psoriatic skin, consisting of nine plants in an equal proportion.

Introduction: Pra-Sa-Ka-Phrao complete (PSKPC) remedy is a Thai traditional medicine published in the Thailand National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM). In this research, we have developed a modified version of the remedy, named as Pra-Sa-Ka-Phrao incomplete (PSKPIC), following the FDA Thailand’s guidelines for using it as a food supplement. Notably, there is a lack of studies concerning biological activities and chemical constituents of both remedies.

Introduction: Homonymous hemianopia interferes with the daily living activities of patients.
Objectives: To present a mobile application using the camera function in combination with three-dimensional virtual reality (VR) glasses to expand the visual field by transferring imagestoward the residual field.
Methods: The authors included patients with homonymous hemianopia who could provide consent and communicate during examinations. The authors prospectively tested patients using an iOS-mobile application with a mobile camera and VR headsets to compare the binocular visual field before and after the test.

We are reporting a case of disseminated Nocardia otitidiscaviarum infection, manifesting as a ruptured intracranial aneurysm in an immunocompromised patient. The patient succumbed despite treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, amikacin, and levofloxacin along with surgical repairment. Nocardiosis should be one of the differential diagnoses for intracranial mycotic aneurysm among immunocompromised individuals.
