A Mixed Methods Exploration Of Interoceptive Awareness In Adults Who Stutter, Hazel Malcolm
A Mixed Methods Exploration Of Interoceptive Awareness In Adults Who Stutter, Hazel Malcolm
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Stuttering is commonly described as a disorder of speech fluency characterized by primary speech behaviors that are judged by external observers to be typical of stuttering, including part-word repetitions, prolongations, and blocks (i.e., silent prolongations or postural fixations). Despite wide use in the field of speech-pathology, definitions focusing on these ‘primary’ behaviors have also been criticized as ‘surface’ or ‘perceptual’ definitions that favor the experience of a listener over that of the speaker. Recent qualitative evidence suggests that, when asked, adults who stutter (AWS) instead define stuttering as an internal feeling or awareness of being ‘stuck’ that is surrounded by …

A Parametric Study On The Energy Dissipation Capability Of Frictional Mechanical Metamaterials Engineered For Vibration Isolation, Shayan Khosravi, Mohsen Amjadian
Civil Engineering Faculty Publications
Mechanical metamaterials are engineered structures with complex geometric arrangements that display unconventional mechanical properties which are uncommon in traditional materials. They possess the ability to manipulate and control mechanical wave propagation across specific frequency ranges known as frequency bandgaps. This feature makes them extremely useful for a variety of applications in structural control including passive vibration isolation. These materials can be engineered to selectively block or redirect the input motion at their dominant frequency while allowing the transmission of motion at other frequencies. This paper aims to study the dynamic performance of an innovative mechanical metamaterial designed for seismic isolation …

Sacred Heart, Ashley Knight
Honors Thesis
This work explores the interplay between love, memory, and mortality through three distinct but interwoven pieces: Sacred Heart, Godsent, and Satan’s Greetings. Each piece is centered around personal and collective experiences, utilizing various mediums. These works explore my overflowing feelings of love and gratitude meeting my existentialism and fear of death. Together, these works offer a reflection on the dualities of existence, drawing from personal history, cultural traditions, and a general sense of existentialism to articulate my journey through love, loss, and the human condition.

“It’S Your Fault”: The Overcriminalization And Self-Fulfilling Prophecy In The Imprisonment Of African American Males In America, Jonnishae Bennett
University Honors College
African American men have been subjected to the abuse and neglect of America’s Criminal Justice System for centuries. Such subjection has made them victims of systematic racism and prejudice; however, they have been depicted as everything other than victims. Societies’ continuous rejection of them as anything other than criminal, has forced them into the confines of imprisonment. The basis of their imprisonment can be directly connected to history’s congestion of the African American community. The utilization of the prison system has become a new-found version of enslavement. Labels attached to African American men have remained consistent with America’s overcriminalization of …
