Health Equity and Quality Improvement (HEQI) Summit

Introduction

  • COVID-19 presented unique challenges for the care of immunocompromised individuals.
  • Patients with suppressed immune systems lack the ability to mount a robust response to vaccines, leading to an increased likelihood of developing severe COVID-19 responses and increased mortality.
  • Astra-Zeneca developed Evusheld, a monoclonal antibody (Tixagevimab/cilgavimab) as a COVID-19 prophylaxis to target the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.1
  • In December 2023, the FDA enacted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Evusheld in immunocompromised individuals and TJUH developed a roll-out plan.2
  • Thomas Jefferson University Health (TJUH) distributed the drug using a tiering system that ranked the degrees of immunocompromising conditions for …

Health Equity and Quality Improvement (HEQI) Summit

Background

  • Problem: Patients receiving chemotherapy for their cancer are often overwhelmed with the stresses of their new diagnoses and other coexistent medical issues may be forgotten or ignored. In the event dysglycemia or diabetes appears during the course of chemotherapy it may difficult for these patients to obtain care in a timely fashion and early literature suggests that dysglycemia may decrease the efficacy of chemotherapy
  • Aim: Our goal was a protocol designed to ensure adequate euglycemia in patients at the Oncology Infusion Center (OIC) to eliminate insulin treatment guesswork for hyperglycemia, allow timely care with endocrinology specialists, and create a …

Identifying Inappropriate Dual Anti-Platelet Therapy (Dapt) Utilization In The Outpatient Setting, Youssef Elfatatry, Julia Palecki, Nevin Varghese, Amry Majeed, Alexis Wickersham May 2024

Identifying Inappropriate Dual Anti-Platelet Therapy (Dapt) Utilization In The Outpatient Setting, Youssef Elfatatry, Julia Palecki, Nevin Varghese, Amry Majeed, Alexis Wickersham

Health Equity and Quality Improvement (HEQI) Summit

Background

Problem Statement:

  • Dual anti-platelet therapy (DAPT) is a cornerstone in management of many cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions; however, inappropriate and prolonged use can lead to increased bleeding risk. Despite guidelines on optimal DAPT duration for various clinical scenarios, a proportion of patients receive inappropriately extended courses of therapy, exposing them to unnecessary risk.

Project AIM:

  • We aim to (1) identify inappropriate DAPT use using established clinical guidelines at two academic primary care clinics and (2) develop and implement a targeted best practice advisory (BPA) in EPIC to address gaps in adherence to DAPT guidelines to enhance patient safety and …

Health Equity and Quality Improvement (HEQI) Summit

Background & Project Aims

  • Children experiencing homelessness (CEH) are at increased risk for behavioral health problems: 78% show behavioral problems, academic delays, or depression.1

  • Recent research suggests an increased prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) among people experiencing homelessness.2,3

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The purpose of the research is to study the adsorption properties and mineralogical structure of alkaline earth bentonites from the Navbakhor deposit, as well as to develop technological regimes for their acid activation for use as bleaching clay in the purification of vegetable oils. The authors, based on the structural structure of the studied bentonites, achieved an increase in adsorption capacity from 35 cm3/g to 100 cm3/g, by treating with hydrochloric and sulfuric acids with a concentration of 15-20% and in a bentonite:acid ratio of 1:2.5 at a temperature below 100°С. Nitrogen adsorption isotherms of activated …

Influence Of Lipolytic Enzymes On The Fractional Composition Of Wheat Alcohol, Bobir S. Kayumov, Saida Sh. Khakimova, Khasan T. Khasanov May 2024

Influence Of Lipolytic Enzymes On The Fractional Composition Of Wheat Alcohol, Bobir S. Kayumov, Saida Sh. Khakimova, Khasan T. Khasanov

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The purpose of this work is to study the influence of lipolytic enzymes on the fermentation activity and fractional composition of alcohol by the yeast Saccharamyces cerevisea during alcoholic fermentation. Lipolytic enzymes, intensifying the fermentation process and increasing the yield of the target product, have a positive effect on the physiological activity of yeast cells. Hydrolysis of carboxylic acid esters also occurs due to the hydrolase activity of lipases. In the presence of exogenous lipases, hydrolysis of lipids occurs due to the hydrolase activity of lipases and the fractional composition of alcohol changes. The content of esters is reduced by …

Synthesis Of High Molecular Mass Resins Based On Furfuryl Alcohol, Boysayid U. Sayidov, Latif E. Jumanov, Muzaffar G. Alimukhamedov, Sherali A. Umarov, Farhod A. Magrupov

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The purpose of the work is to study the process of synthesis of furfuryl oligomers with high molecular weight at various ratios of furfuryl alcohol and hydroxyl-containing polyether polyol. The influence of the process method on the yield of high-molecular furfuryl oligomer is shown - with a one-step synthesis method with an increase in the amount of furfuryl alcohol from 20 to 50 moles per 1 mole of polyether polyol, the yield of the final product decreases from 75% to 56%, apparently due to high exothermic effects, causing gelation systems. In contrast to the one-time introduction of the catalyst, its …

Income Differences Among Nations: Measuring The Effects Of Human Capital On Total Factor Productivity (Tfp), Ashley Tarrolly

CSB and SJU Distinguished Thesis

In the past two centuries, long-term economic growth has been defined by The Great Divergence, where the gap of income distribution has widened as a result of some nations experiencing modern economic growth while others have remained stagnant in their economic well-being. This panel data research examines differences in income across countries by applying development accounting to analyze differences in per capita gross domestic product (GDP) and predict each country’s total factor productivity (TFP). Data from the Penn World Tables were collected and categorized into groups based on GDP per capita to create a sample of 144 countries in 10-year …

Final Master's Portfolio, Ayotunde Afolabi

Master of Arts in English Plan II Graduate Projects

This portfolio explores themes of gender and race, identity representation, and agency within various literary texts. It encapsulates a series of analytical essays that scrutinize how these themes intersect and manifest across diverse literary landscapes, emphasizing the ways in which authors address and challenge societal norms and structures through their narratives. Each essay within the portfolio not only mirrors the engagement with these themes but also showcases the development of a theoretical approach that bridges classical literary analysis with contemporary issues of identity politics and social justice.

Past And Future Winds, Alicia Ehni May 2024

Past And Future Winds, Alicia Ehni

Theses and Dissertations

Ehni’s thesis reflects on the role of wind to connect and transform. Looking at science and invisible forces like Earth’s magnetic field, her "Oculus" sculptures evoke old tools for orientation & migration. Birds, insects, plants, roads and sand, appear in a video and an experimental 16mm pinhole film of her bike journey along the Hudson River, NY. “Coordinates”, a magnetic drawing installation, addresses impermanence, attraction to land and fragility. Tracing memories of the Paracas desert in Peru, this thesis follows her interest in alchemy, ecology and the cosmos.
