Background: Long COVID affects a substantial proportion of the over 778 million individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2, yet predictive models remain limited in scope. While existing efforts, such as the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C), have leveraged electronic health record (EHR) data for risk prediction and identification, accumulating evidence points to additional contributions from social, behavioral, and genetic factors.

Methods: Using a diverse cohort of SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals (n > 17,200) from the NIH All of Us Research Program, we investigated whether integrating EHR data with survey-based and genomic information improves model performance.

Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure and remains a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2024), approximately 47.7% of U.S. adults have hypertension, yet only about one in five achieve blood pressure control below 130/80 mm Hg. Medication adherence plays a critical role in managing hypertension and preventing complications. Adults aged 18 years and older prescribed antihypertensive medications from a primary care clinic in Valparaiso, Indiana, participated in this six-week quality improvement intervention. Mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) of the rectum are rare tumors that typically demonstrate aggressive behavior, largely driven by high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma components. Evidence guiding management is limited, particularly for early-stage lesions and for patients unable to tolerate standard oncologic surgery. We report the case of an elderly man with extensive comorbidities who was found to have a 1.3 cm rectal MiNEN following transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS) performed for rectal bleeding. Histopathology revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma component and a well-differentiated grade 1 neuroendocrine tumor (NET) component, with submucosal invasion greater than 2 mm, negative margins, low tumor budding, small-vessel lymphovascular …

Eyewitnesses are frequently asked to describe culprits following a crime, but how accurate and complete are such descriptions? This study examined eyewitness description completeness and accuracy by investigating estimator variables (Race and Gender), reflector variables (Confidence and Response Time), and elicitation methods (Free Recall and Prompted Recall). Participants viewed one mock-crime video featuring a culprit who varied in race (White or Black) and gender (Female or Male), then provided free recall descriptions followed by prompted descriptions of facial features. Prompted recall improved completeness beyond free recall, though with a minor reduction in accuracy. Descriptions were more complete for same-race and …

Physical activity has been defined in numerous ways. Thus, this study aimed to conduct a concept analysis of the existing physical activity definitions in the health sciences literature to evaluate its conceptual precision and assess the need for a revised or novel concept better suited for this domain. The concept analysis was accomplished using tools derived from philosophical semantics. The analysis identified six definitions that explicitly state what physical activity is with sufficient clarity to allow for conceptual examination. The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility of a culturally tailored pedagogical workshop, as a pilot intervention, designed to prompt in-service physical education (PE) teachers to offer equitable physical activity opportunities (PAOs). Participants were two certified middle school PE teachers and 175 students. Using a mixed-methods descriptive study design, the PE teachers received workshop sessions and took part in semi-structured interviews. The adapted Student Measure of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children was administered to measure students’ perceptions and physical activity (PA), respectively. Radiotherapy can lead to late-onset toxicity, to varying extents between individuals due to differences in radiosensitivity. Predicting which patients are most at risk is key to augmenting the therapeutic window. However, the underlying biological mechanisms remain poorly understood, and current experimental methods often lack clinical applicability. This study employs Raman spectroscopy to analyse biochemical profiles in peripheral lymphocytes and plasma, aiming to monitor radiotherapeutic response and predict intrinsic radiosensitivity in high-risk localised prostate cancer patients treated with stereotactic radiotherapy. Social media users in Connecticut report using social media platforms just over 24 hours per week, higher than residents of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. More than half of social media users want to use it less, particularly those under 50, and a quarter feel addicted to social media. YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram are the most popular platforms among Connecticut residents, with YouTube used most frequently. This study focused on the Evaluation of School Library Resources, Availability and Usage among Female Students in Senior Secondary in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population comprised 1,137 female senior secondary school students from two selected secondary schools, while a sample of 240 respondents was selected using stratified random sampling technique. A total of 232 copies of the questionnaire were properly completed and returned. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts and simple percentages. Apathy, or loss of motivation, is a prominent syndrome accompanying both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, in addition to other disorders. One approach to understanding motivational loss is to examine the processes underlying goal-directed behaviour. Weighing up rewarding outcomes against the effort costs required to obtain them (effort-based decision-making) is a core computation when deciding to act for outcomes. Although a growing body of evidence points to disruption of this computation in people with apathy, which underlying decision parameters drive this disruption, their neural associations and whether these would generalize or differ across brain disorders have not been examined. Despite effective lipid-lowering therapies, atherosclerosis continues to be a leading cause of death, with considerable residual cardiovascular risk. Atherosclerotic lesions develop preferentially at arterial regions exposed to disturbed flow (d-flow), which induces genomic stress, endothelial injury, and barrier dysfunction. Hemodynamic forces are known to reprogram endothelial metabolism, but the role of de novo purine synthesis (DNPS), which supplies nucleotides for genome maintenance and whose terminal steps are catalyzed by the bifunctional enzyme ATIC, remains undefined in atherosclerosis. Alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of pulmonary veins (ACDMPV) is a rare lethal lung developmental disorder caused by haploinsufficiency of FOXF1. While larger-sized coding and noncoding copy-number variant (CNV) deletions involving the FOXF1 locus are detected in approximately half of histopathologically-diagnosed ACDMPV patients, small CNVs remain diagnostically challenging. Here, we revisited an unsolved case of familial ACDMPV with two affected siblings. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) of 30-year-old archival lung autopsy tissue analyzed using AI powered platform revealed a 151 bp CNV deletion involving a highly GC-rich portion of exon 1 of FOXF1 that was not detected using Sanger sequencing and …

Librarians and library workers have frequently appeared as characters within the medium of comics, perhaps more so than people realize. While the discussion usually begins and ends with Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, the number of examples that can actually be found is astoundingly vast.

Whether they are fictional beings wholly created by the artists, or based on real-life individuals, librarians represent a standard archetype within popular culture that creators often reference in order to convey a specific image to their audience. Herbularyo, a card game teaching about herbal plants (HPs), was created and evaluated as a viable educational card game based on Tuomisto and Aksela’s criteria. A quasi-experiment was performed on 81 Grade 8 students from a private high school and 50 Grade 11 from a public high school. Independent t-test revealed that the control group (CG) and experimental group (EG) (p=0.386), and EG1 (played ≤5) and EG2 (played >5) (p=0.681) are not comparable with each other. Paired t-test showed EG performed better (p=0.001) than CG (p=0.901) whereas ANCOVA showed that playing Herbularyo improved students’ information retention (p=0.006). EG1 and EG2 …
