Background/Objectives

Running is a popular form of physical activity, but its growing participation has been accompanied by high rates of injury that may limit ongoing engagement, particularly in older runners. This study explored differences in running participation limitation, injury location, and training characteristics between young (18–34 years) and master (>35 years) runners.

Methods

A total of 207 runners (105 young, 102 master) completed an online survey assessing demographics, training habits, and injury-related participation limitations using the updated Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Overuse Injury Questionnaire.

Related-rates problems are a standard topic in first-year calculus and have appeared in textbooks for over 150 years. These problems are used to teach implicit differentiation and the relationship between changing quantities. Common examples include the falling ladder, the fishing bobber, the melting snowball, and the leaking conical tank. In each of these problems, a quantity is changing at a constant rate, and students are asked to find the rate of change of another related quantity. Graphic symbol collections are often implemented in assessment and interventions with clients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The selection of the optimal collection is considered by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) a challenging task. Since limited literature exists on the factors that guide this selection specifically for clients with ASD, this study aimed to explore those in detail, for which a qualitative design was followed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with SLPs who shared their views on the factors that affect this selection. A thematic analysis of the interview transcripts took place. OBJECTIVE: Hypoglossal nerve stimulation in the US requires drug-induced sleep endoscopy to exclude patients with complete concentric collapse. This is an expensive and time-consuming requirement. We hypothesized that supine pharyngeal width, and other demographic and polysomnographic variables would associate with complete concentric collapse.

STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, multicenter cohort study.

SETTING: 10 centers in the United States with experience selecting patients for and performing airway surgeries for sleep apnea including hypoglossal nerve stimulation implantation.

Spiritual care is an essential component of holistic end-of-life nursing, yet it is inconsistently provided in home hospice settings. For this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project, we developed and implemented the Compassionate Spiritual Comfort Integration Program (CSCI), a brief, theory-based educational intervention to strengthen hospice nurses' spiritual care practices. Grounded in Kolcaba's Comfort Theory and Jinpa's Compassion Framework, the CSCI was delivered as a prerecorded webinar. A quasi-experimental single–group pretest–posttest design was used to evaluate changes in spiritual care behaviors, measured with the 17-item Nurse Spiritual Care Therapeutics Scale (NSCTS) and a single-item confidence measure. Background: Accurate intraoperative identification of ovarian cancer is challenging, as standard techniques such as visual inspection, palpation, and histopathology often fail to detect microscopic disease. Residual tumor contributes to poor cytoreductive outcomes, high recurrence rates, and chemoresistance. Near-infrared (NIR) imaging using tumor-specific biomarkers has emerged as a promising approach to enhance intraoperative visualization and improve tumor margin delineation. This study aims to analyze the structure, content, and integration of a play-based learning implementation guide as a pedagogical instrument to support reflective learning in early childhood education at TK Alam Jingga. A descriptive qualitative approach with document analysis was employed. The primary data source was the Play-Based Learning Implementation Guide, which integrates operational guidelines, technical procedures, instructional planning tools, and a monitoring and evaluation system. Data were collected through intensive and iterative document review and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Background The impact of intravenous (IV) thrombolysis on the outcomes of aspiration thrombectomy as the primary endovascular approach to stroke in patients with large vessel occlusion is unknown.

Methods The Imperative Trial was a prospective, investigational device exemption, multicenter trial of first-line aspiration thrombectomy that assessed the safety and efficacy of the Zoom System, including a novel 0.088 inch aspiration catheter in patients with stroke within 8 hours of onset. We compared procedural, technical, and clinical outcomes of aspiration thrombectomy based on whether patients had received IV thrombolytics prior to the intervention.

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) through the phosphotyrosine-Src homology 2 (SH2) interaction play critical roles in many signal transduction pathways. CT10 regulator of kinase (Crk) and Crk-like (CrkL) are structurally and functionally similar adaptor proteins that mediate PPIs through their SH2 domains. Crk and CrkL are essential in tumor cell migration and invasion and have been proposed as therapeutic targets. However, there are no Crk and CrkL inhibitors available. Previously, we designed a conserved heptapeptide that binds to Crk by analyzing the 15 YXXP motifs in p130Cas. The Effects Of Stimulus Disparity On Acquisition Of Chinese Language Learning, Siyi Duan

Thesis Projects

This study examined the effects of stimulus disparity on Chinese characters. Participants were taught Sets of similar and dissimilar characters using a Pre-test–teaching–Post-Test format with stimulus fading supports. Acquisition was measured by sessions to mastery. Results showed that dissimilar Sets were learned more efficiently than similar Sets. Error patterns include repeated use of the same responses across stimuli, and errors within sets. These findings suggest that similarity may slow acquisition and more errors may occur during early learning.

BACKGROUND: Existing mental health self-report measures have been criticized for over-simplification, lack of CF-specific focus, susceptibility to measurement reactivity bias, and conflation of symptoms of anxiety and/or depression with CF-related symptoms and/or treatment side effects. The CF Mental Health and Wellness Questionnaire (CFMHWQ) is a 25-item measure assessing CF-specific mental health burden symptoms.

METHODS: To examine common underlying factors contributing to scores on the CFMHWQ, principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted of all 25 items. Ramp to breakdown (RTBD), constant voltage time dependent dielectric breakdown (CVS-TDDB), and low-field long term (LFLT) tests were performed on commercially available silicon carbide MOSFETs from four manufacturers in discrete, TO-247 packaging (A, B, C, and D). Voltage and temperature stress factors are examined for their impact on oxide breakdown. “High temperature gate bias stress test of silicon carbide MOSFETs from multiple manufacturers were performed. It was found that some extrinsic oxide failures are an ongoing problem. The results of the tests and lifetime analysis are presented” (Oxide Failures in SiC Power MOSFETs).

Host-associated microbiomes play central roles in host physiology, development, and susceptibility to disease, yet their composition and stability vary widely across genetic, environmental, and ecological contexts. Understanding the factors that shape microbiome structure remains a key challenge in host–microbe biology. This thesis examines how host genetic background and environmental perturbations independently influence gut microbiome composition in Drosophila, and uses mechanistic modeling to explore how microbial dynamics can affect pathogen invasion outcomes.

In this multiple paper dissertation, I found that a higher quality interparental relationship, characterized by more emotional intimacy, support, responsiveness and better conflict management skills, plays a key role in reducing stress and its subsequent impact on family dynamics. Aims and hypotheses were tested using longitudinal data collected from mixed-sex couples during the pregnancy-postpartum transition and into early childhood. In study #1, higher quality interparental support during pregnancy was associated with lower postpartum stress which, in turn, predicted fewer parent–infant bonding impairments. In study #2, a mutually responsive orientation in the couple relationship during pregnancy interacted with intrapersonal regulatory resources …
