Biology Department Faculty Articles
This paper uses Will County in Illinois as a case study to examine the relationship between food citizenship and local food consumption in what we term to be the rural-urban blend of America. Food citizenship is participating in food-related actions promoting democratic, socially and economically equitable, and environmentally sustainable food systems. On the other hand, local food consumption is choosing and preferring to buy and eat local food over other conventional forms of food. The study used data analysis from a survey of 342 residents in Will County, Illinois, to test a conceptual model that considers various socio-psychological traits that …

Comparison Of Sheep And Goats To The Acute Toxic Effects Of Foothill Death Camas, Kevin D. Welch, Stephen T. Lee, Clint A. Stonecipher, Dale R. Gardner, Daniel Cook
Poisonous Plant Research (PPR)
Death camas (Zigadenus spp) is a perennial forb found throughout the western United States, which is known to kill both sheep and cattle. In a previous study, goats appeared to be somewhat resistant to the adverse effects of death camas. Therefore, the objective of this study was to directly compare the susceptibility of goats and sheep to the acute toxic effects of death camas. Sheep and goats were dosed at 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, and 6.0 g death camas per kg BW. The data presented in this manuscript suggest that goats are more susceptible to death camas than sheep. …
Changes In Lean Body Mass With Glucagon-Like Peptide-1-Based Therapies And Mitigation Strategies, Ian J. Neeland
Changes In Lean Body Mass With Glucagon-Like Peptide-1-Based Therapies And Mitigation Strategies, Ian J. Neeland
Faculty Scholarship
Weight loss induced by glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) and dual glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R)/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor agonists is coming closer to the magnitudes achieved with surgery. However, with greater weight loss there is concern about potential side effects on muscle quantity (mass), health and function. There is heterogeneity in the reported effects of GLP-1-based therapies on lean mass changes in clinical trials: in some studies, reductions in lean mass range between 40% and 60% as a proportion of total weight lost, while other studies show lean mass reductions of approximately 15% or less of total weight lost. There …

Reporting Clinical Cases: Advancing Homoeopathy, One Case At A Time, Subhash Kaushik
Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Case reports have been invariably contributing to the research world in their own way. They remain a popular genre among the readers, especially the clinicians who lay their hands upon a clinical journal with an interest to pick new knowledge about a certain disease or a drug than to learn about new evidence generated through statistical calculations. Its presence in medical literature is reported to be quite ancient, with some evidence dated back to the Egyptian antiquity. In fact, a well-documented case report is a representative version of many similar clinical success stories.
