Early detection measures can help children access services earlier, even before behavioral traits manifest. In this thesis, I explore how Ghanaian Adinkra symbols, particularly Sankɔfa and Gye Nyame, function as living expressions of memory, spirituality, and belonging within diasporic life. Drawing on autoethnography, story circles conducted at Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) in Syracuse, New York, and embodied experience, the study examines how these symbols move beyond decoration to become active tools for remembering, resisting, and reconnecting with ancestral knowledge. Through everyday practices such as dress, ritual, worship, and digital expression, Sankɔfa and Gye Nyame carry memory across generations and geographies, shaping how diasporic subjects understand home, identity, and faith. Community art therapy offers opportunities to address inequities in access to therapeutic services by locating creative practices within shared, non-clinical spaces, and using nontraditional and everyday materials. This qualitative phenomenological study examined how community-based eco-art therapy, using found, foraged, recycled, and low-cost materials in a community studio, shapes participants’ experiences of accessibility, connection, and creativity. Eight adult participants attended two community-based workshops that included open-ended artmaking, a mindfulness-oriented material walk, and individual semi-structured interviews with response art. Data from interviews, field notes, and artworks were analyzed using thematic analysis. Rooted in early experiences with skateboarding as a framework, the work adopts a subcultural way of seeing that reinterprets urban space as fluid, contingent, and open to reconfiguration. To address the severe multi-threaded performance degradation caused by lock contention in oversubscribed cloud environments, this thesis examines and improves on the Pause Loop Exit (PLE) mechanism used by hypervisors to deschedule unproductive virtual CPUs (vCPUs). These oversubscribed environments introduce contention which frequently leads to Lock Holder Preemption (LHP), where a hypervisor preempts a vCPU holding a critical spinlock, causing waiting vCPUs to waste cycles spinning. To mitigate LHP, hardware mechanisms trigger PLE events to inform hypervisors of spinning vCPUs, relying on a PLE_gap parameter to differentiate spinlock instances. Authentic And Thriving: The Role Of Authenticity In Friendship And Well-Being, Arina Stoianova

Generally, authentic people have satisfying close relationships and greater well-being (Rivera et al., 2019). Having satisfying friendships is important for personal well-being and a fulfilling life (Anderson & Fowers, 2020). Thus, in three pre-registered studies, I tested whether authenticity is related to well-being through friendship satisfaction among single and partnered people. In Study 1 (N=326), singles’ authenticity was associated with having satisfying friendships, which in turn predicted greater general well-being (i.e., life satisfaction and purpose in life), but not singlehood-specific outcomes. In Study 2 (N = 623), I examined whether this finding extends to partnered people’s well-being and found that …

Adolescence is a developmental period marked by heightened vulnerability to insufficient sleep, which contributes to adverse emotional, cognitive, and physical health outcomes. Evidence indicates that adolescents who identify as lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) are at an increased risk for poor sleep relative to their heterosexual peers. However, little is known about which dimensions of sleep health differ by sexual identity or modifiable factors that may underlie these differences. This study examined whether adolescent sleep duration, sleep efficiency, and daytime sleepiness differed by sexual identity, and investigated whether parental acceptance and parental monitoring helped explain these differences. Recent advances in human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) technology have enabled the development of high-throughput platforms for cardiotoxicity screening. However, conventional analytical approaches remain limited by time-intensive processing, manual annotation requirements, and reduced scalability for large datasets. To address these challenges, calcium fluorescence signals from human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC CMs) were analyzed using a high-throughput imaging platform and complementary machine learning frameworks. First, a feature-based supervised learning approach using engineered waveform descriptors and low-dimensional signal embeddings enabled rapid and interpretable screening of large chemical datasets, with combined features improving predictive performance relative to engineered features alone. …

The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in brand visuals has prompted interest in whether presenting synthetic images alongside real counterparts changes how consumers engage with and evaluate them. This between-subjects online experiment (N = 211) tested whether paired versus single presentation of synthetic and real brand images affected engagement and attitudes, including perceived trustworthiness and perceived attractiveness, using the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM). Results did not reveal that presentation format affects engagement, engagement predicts either attitudinal outcome, or format moderates the engagement-attitude relationship. This thesis examines how community membership is constructed in everyday conversations amongst rural blue-collar people in Upstate New York. Through a sociolinguistic approach, the data from this project was collected by recording naturally occurring conversations of rural blue-collar community over a year. These conversations were then transcribed and coded, seeking out pockets of blue-collar topics in the conversations. When doing this, blue-collar/blue-collar experiences were understood as manual work, typically not done in an office, and that does not often require a degree. Works by authors such as Virginia Woolf, Margaret Atwood, and Otessa Moshfegh, contain an emerging pattern and relationship linked through an ephemeral bodied aesthetic which depicts women's bodies as deconstructed, intangible, and undefined.

This paper highlights how social identities like polygamy, illiteracy, and ethnicity hinder rural women farmers in Ghana from adapting to climate change. It advocates for an intersectional approach to address these challenges, moving beyond simplistic gender binaries. Using qualitative interviews (n=49) in a flood-prone village in Berekum, Ghana, the study reveals how these identities intersect with gender roles and colonial legacies, exacerbating vulnerability. Writing apprehension refers to fear or anxiety associated with writing tasks, avoidance of writing, and concern over evaluation of written works (Daly & Miller, 1975c). Although extensively studied in college-aged populations, where elevated apprehension is linked to reduced text production (Limpo, 2018) and diminished sentence complexity and quality (Faigley et al., 1981), research in elementary students remains limited.
