Data collected from an educational experiment were analyzed to investigate the effectiveness of an instructional reform referred to as the inverted classroom (learning activities traditionally taking place inside the classroom now take place outside the classroom and vice versa) in undergraduate statistics education. Students were taught the same statistics course in the inverted classroom (135 students) and the traditional classroom (135 students) over one semester. A small sample HLM (hierarchical linear modeling) approach was used to account for the data structure of students nested within 12 sections of the course and small sample sizes at both student and section levels. …

Clear Masks Do Not Prevent Gains During Dynamic Temporal And Tactile Cueing Treatment: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Pilot Study, Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel, Elizabeth Murray, Shelley L. Velleman, Geraldine Bricker-Katz, Donna Thomas
Speech Pathology and Audiology Faculty Research and Publications
Purpose:
This study aimed to determine the outcomes and impact of Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) treatment when clear vinyl masks were worn. DTTC is one of the few evidence-based treatments for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). Given that DTTC relies on visual, auditory, and tactile cues, it was unknown if treatment gains would be demonstrated when masks were worn and how masking would impact the therapy experience for clinicians and caregivers.
Method:
A sequential mixed methods design was used to study the efficacy of DTTC treatment in children with CAS when clear masks were worn. The …

OBJECTIVE: To determine bidirectional associations between the timing of chronic diabetes complications (CDCs) and mental health disorders (MHDs) in individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We used a nationally representative health care claims database to identify matched individuals with type 1 or 2 diabetes or without diabetes using a propensity score quasirandomization technique stratified by age (0-19, 20-39, 40-59, and ≥60 years). CDCs and MHDs were identified using ICD-9/10 codes. We fit Cox proportional hazards models with time-varying diagnoses of CDCs or MHDs to investigate their association with the hazard of developing MHDs or …
A Multilevel Approach To The Analysis And Visualization Of Timbral Brightness In Post-Tonal Music, Stephen Spencer
A Multilevel Approach To The Analysis And Visualization Of Timbral Brightness In Post-Tonal Music, Stephen Spencer
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation develops a method for the analysis and visualization of timbral brightness in post-tonal music. Brightness, a salient timbral attribute correlated with the prominence of high frequencies in the sound spectrum, is crucial for distinguishing sounds and discerning how they fit together in music. The dissertation employs a multilevel analytical approach, measuring differences in brightness at multiple “textural levels” and temporal scales. The analytical utility of the approach is demonstrated through four case studies, each one closely examining the score and audio of a piece of instrumental music written in the first quarter of the twentieth century.

Plymouth Business School
The food supply chain (FSC) is becoming more sustainable as companies aim to meet demand with lower waste and emissions. Big data analytics (BDA) can help achieve sustainability goals by extracting meaningful information from past data to help create sustainable strategies. However, in the sustainability literature, BDA's role in enabling sustainable FSC innovations is not explored. Thus, this study investigates how data-driven analytics might improve FSC innovation by adopting creative tactics in every triple bottom line (TBL) component – green, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and financial – to gain a competitive edge. A resource-based view (RBV) perspective was used to …

An Automated Wavelet Scattering Network Classification Using Three Stages Of Cataract Disease, Enas Hamood Al-Saadi, Ahmed Nidhal Khdiar, Lamis Hamood Al-Saadi
Baghdad Science Journal
A cataract is an eye disease that causes visual distortion and the late stage of this disease can lead to blindness. It is considered a silent disease that can occur without the appearance of symptoms. Therefore, the most effective way to detect cataracts is through accurate and timely detection to prevent hurting, expensive operations, and to stop blindness. The purpose of this paper is to propose an automated system based on the wavelet scattering network which categorizes the patients into four classes: early cataract, intermediate cataract, late cataract, and non-cataract conditions using 512 images of the ODIR dataset (212 Cataract …

Some Results About Acts Over Monoid And Bounded Linear Operators, Nadia M. J. Ibrahem, Uhood S. Al-Hussani, Muna Jasim Mohammed Ali
Baghdad Science Journal
This study delves into the properties of the associated act V over the monoid S of sinshT. It examines the relationship between faithful, finitely generated, and separated acts, as well as their connections to one-to-one and onto operators. Additionally, the correlation between acts over a monoid and modules over a ring is explored. Specifically, it is established that functions as an act over S if and only if functions as module, where T represents a nilpotent operator. Furthermore, it is proved that when T is onto operator and is finitely generated, is guaranteed to be finite-dimensional. Prove that for any …

Minimally Invasive Repair Of Pectus Excavatum Without Stabilizers Does Not Result In Increased Bar Displacement Or Other Post-Operative Complications, Meredith Elman, Seth Saylors, Ismael Elhalaby, Pablo Aguayo
Presentations
Introduction/Purpose Since the Nuss procedure was first performed in the 1990s, surgeons have adopted various modifications and techniques that vary by practice to optimize patient outcomes and minimize complications following pectus excavatum repair. Bar dislocation is a particularly dreaded complication, and as such, many Nuss bars are secured using unilateral or bilateral stabilizers. However, additional foreign body use can be associated with increased morbidity such as infection at stabilizer sites (~3% incidence), and pain attributed to stabilizer presence. Beginning in 2020, individuals in our practice did not place stabilizers in patients undergoing minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE), and …

Testing Feed Is Vital For Feed Budgeting, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Animal production and livestock factsheets
A little knowledge of the nutritional value of your supplementary feeds can save you a lot of money and hassle.
In dry seasons, it is likely that farmers will need to start supplementary feeding earlier than usual. The higher requirement for supplementary feeds over dry seasons means accurate feed budgeting becomes increasingly important to minimise feed wastage, for weaner survival, and to maintain stock at the right condition score (CS) for joining.

Grains and other field crops factsheets
Spray-topping or pasture topping is the application of a sub-lethal rate of herbicide when grasses are coming into head and flowering.
The aim is to reduce the production of viable seed and the seedling population in the following year. The grass is not killed by the herbicide application.
Spray-topping is normally carried out in preparation for the following season's cropping program.

Foliar Diseases And Their Management In Lupins, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
This factsheet describes symptoms and management of the major fungal and viral diseases affecting lupin foliage, stems, and pods. Several of these diseases have the capacity to cause significant losses if not managed effectively.
Inoculum can be carried in soil, seed, stubble, on green regrowth, or by insect vectors, depending on the disease. Therefore, an integrated approach to disease management is required using tactics such as crop rotation, stubble management, fungicide seed dressing, variety selection, and seed testing

Are You Planting Resistant Weeds With Your Crop Seed?, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Key messages
• West Australian (WA) grain growers have significant weed seed contamination in their crop seed.
• WA growers are sowing herbicide resistant weed seed into their cropping paddocks.
• Crop hygiene (harvest, seeding, transporting) is important to minimise spread of weeds.
Harvest is well underway throughout the WA grainbelt, and growers will be harvesting grain and collecting seed for next year’s crop.
However, this crop seed can be contaminated with weed seeds and, if seed cleaning operations are only partially effective, this weed seed may be sown into paddocks with crop seed in the following season.
Russian Wheat Aphid And Its Management In Wheat And Barley, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Russian Wheat Aphid And Its Management In Wheat And Barley, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Russian wheat aphid is found worldwide and has spread throughout all major grain growing countries. In Australia, Russian wheat aphid is present in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, and Western Australia, where it was first detected in 2020.
In Western Australia, Russian wheat aphid is found in low, medium, and high rainfall areas.
Presence of Russian wheat aphid in Western Australia is not an international trade issue and there are no trade implications for the grain industry, as bulk grain is not a host for Russian wheat aphid.
Managing Aphids And Viruses In Lupins, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Managing Aphids And Viruses In Lupins, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Aphids reduce yields by direct feeding damage, which causes flower and pod abortion and occasionally plant death in lupins. The extent of damage varies between seasons, but losses can be severe in years that favour aphid population development.
Lupins are most vulnerable to aphids during budding and flowering, as severe feeding damage on growing tips can cause buds to drop, flowers to abort, and reduced pod set. Some lupin varieties are more susceptible to aphids than others.
Aphids transmit serious virus diseases, which reduce yields and contaminate seed stocks. Some species of aphids are more difficult to control than others.

Native Budworm Spraying Threshold, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
The number of native budworm caterpillars in a crop is the major factor determining potential economic damage from the pest. Table 1 was generated with results from department trials to provide an estimate of potential loss from native budworm damage.
Crop loss (kilograms per hectare (kg/ha)) for each caterpillar netted in 10 sweeps (or found per square metre (m2 )) is shown in Table 1. One caterpillar netted in 10 sweeps is equivalent to about 20,000 caterpillars/ha for most pulse crops, assuming an even distribution over the crop

Stem Rust And Its Management In Wheat, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Grains and other field crops factsheets
Stem rust (Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici) is a foliar disease that can significantly reduce wheat yields if it occurs in early spring and is not controlled. Risk factors, management strategies (including variety choices and foliar fungicides), and yield loss from different varieties are discussed here.
In Western Australia, stem rust typically causes losses of 10 to 50% in wheat, but this can increase to 90% when it occurs in early spring and is not controlled.
Stem rust affects wheat and triticale, but barley can also be a host during summer months.Stem rust produces large, reddish-brown spore masses on both …

Therapeutics For Sickle Cell Disease Intravascular Hemolysis, Jianyao Xue, Xiang-An Li
Markey Cancer Center Faculty Publications
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder predominantly affecting individuals of African descent, with a significant global health burden. SCD is characterized by intravascular hemolysis, driven by the polymerization of mutated hemoglobin within red blood cells (RBCs), leading to vascular inflammation, organ damage, and heme toxicity. Clinical manifestations include acute pain crises, hemolytic anemia, and multi-organ dysfunction, imposing substantial morbidity and mortality challenges. Current therapeutic strategies mitigate these complications by increasing the concentration of RBCs with normal hemoglobin via transfusion, inducing fetal hemoglobin, restoring nitric oxide signaling, inhibiting platelet-endothelium interaction, and stabilizing hemoglobin in its oxygenated state. While hydroxyurea …

Opioid use disorder is a major public health crisis that is manifested by persistent drug-seeking behavior and high relapse frequency. Most of the available treatments rely on targeting opioid receptors using small molecules that do not provide sustained symptom alleviation. Psychoplastogens are a novel class of non-opioid drugs that produce rapid and sustained effects on neuronal plasticity, intended to produce therapeutic benefits. Ibogalogs are synthetic derivatives of iboga alkaloids that lack hallucinogenic or adverse side effects. In the current study, we examine the therapeutic potential of DM506, a novel ibogalog lacking any cardiotoxic or hallucinogenic effects, in cue-induced seeking behavior …
