In an industry that significantly contributes to the ever-increasing environmental destruction witnessed globally, architects are responsible for ensuring human comfort without sacrificing environmental health. Earth-sheltering, an architectural design technique that uses earth to partially or fully cover a building, results in reduced operational energy consumption but introduces structural components to increased loads and higher levels of humidity. Using the material properties and life cycle data of wood, concrete, and steel, this study analyzes the viability of each material in a below-grade environment and the resulting embodied impact of a typical earth-sheltered structure. Many parts of the world are experiencing social and political instability, as well as ongoing climatic changes that are expected to accelerate in the years ahead. These changes can undermine children's health through multiple pathways, and the growing frequency of sociopolitical and environmental stressors increases the likelihood that individuals are exposed to multiple risks simultaneously. Few studies have quantified the effects of such concurrent shocks despite conceptual motivations for doing so. We address this gap by measuring the independent and compounding effects of conflict and climate exposures on the weight-for-height of 0–23 month-old children across 32 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. …

This study explored how art therapy supervisors conceptualize professional identity development (PID) in supervision with postgraduate art therapists who were pre-licensed. There was limited empirical research on how art therapy supervisors understood and support PID within art therapy supervision, particularly during the transitional period between graduate training and professional licensure. This study addressed the research question: How do art therapy supervisors conceptualize PID in supervision with postgraduate art therapists who are pre-licensed?

Helping professionals (HPs) working with complex trauma operate in emotionally demanding environments that place them at increased risk of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue. Resilience has therefore been identified as an important resource for sustaining well-being and effective practice. This thesis argues that Toni Morrison uses violent motherhood to add nuance to and challenge negative stereotypes of Black women. The first chapter investigates neglectful and violent mothers, examining Polly Breedlove from The Bluest Eye and Eva Peace from Sula. This chapter explores how these mothers use their cruelty as a way of claiming their title as head of the household, which they have long been denied due to their intersecting identities as Black women. In 1917, the United States Supreme Court held in Southern Pacific v. Jensen that a state statute is invalid if it “interferes with the proper harmony and uniformity of [the general maritime law].” Over a century after Jensen, we still do not know the limits of this “uniformity principle.” Just two years ago, the United States Supreme Court found that this question—what is the role of state law in maritime cases?—remains “one of the most perplexing in the law.”

Antiquities trafficking is the third largest form of illegal trade in the world after arms and drugs. In 2020, over 850,000 stolen or looted antiquities were seized worldwide, with the illegal trade growing significantly due to the rise of social media and online platforms. International law, federal agencies, and civil liability have not been successful in curtailing the illegal antiquities trade.

This paper describes how the placement of a single processing axis reorganizes human cognition and generates a reconstructed world.

Most existing psychological and social theories begin from emotion, desire, morality, or social behavior. In doing so, they have discussed what forms on top of the cognitive skeleton without first fixing the skeleton itself. When the skeleton is not fixed, entirely different explanations of the same phenomenon can coexist, and it becomes difficult to identify which constitutes a foundational account.

This paper fixes the skeleton first. That skeleton is the processing axis.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness and tolerability of PARPi maintenance in a real-world patient population. Specifically, to assess duration of PARPi, the rate of secondary malignancies, rate of side effects, and survival.

METHODS: A retrospective review of patients with ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio was performed. All patients diagnosed since March 2015 were reviewed for eligibility. Data was collected via EMR query and stored in REDCap. Assessing Legacy Collections: Analyzing The Preservation, Recovery, And Interpretive Value Of Archaeobotanical Remains From Site 15le70 (Pine Crest Rockshelter), Lee County, Kentucky, Jennifer Carroll

This paper uses the archaeobotanical assemblage from Site 15Le70, a multi-excavated and extensively looted rockshelter in eastern Kentucky, while opening new lines of inquiry into gendered labor and practice during the Archaic-Woodland transition. Because legacy collections are often dispersed across institutions and/or research projects, the materials from any single site may be fragmented, as was the case for 15Le70. Such collections can be overlooked, yet this investigation into 15Le70’s archaeobotanical assemblage demonstrates that partial or scattered datasets can yield meaningful results and hold the potential to fill gaps in the archaeological record left by looting.

Sexual reproduction is an important driver of genetic diversity and speciation through such forces as selection, mutation, and drift. Sauropsids are an appropriate clade to study shared molecular drivers of sexual and genomic evolution due to their genome architecture, sex determination mechanism (SDM) plasticity, and large syntenous genomic regions. Using comparative phylogenetic methods, I identify predictable patterns of selection in meiotic recombination genes and clade-specific drivers of recombination rate evolution. Then, leveraging whole genome sequencing, I demonstrate that American alligator genomes are characterized by an ancient loss of genetic diversity driven by drift and historic inbreeding. MLLT1 (also named ENL) is an epigenetic reader protein that binds to crotonylated or acetylated lysine residues of histone 3 through its N-terminal YEATS domain. Positive and negative regulatory complexes compete for binding to C-terminal MLLT1, and promote transcription elongation (SEC, Super elongation complex; DOT1L) or transcriptional repression (PRC1, Polycomb repressive complex 1). MLLT1 was initially identified as a chromosomal translocation partner to MLL(KMT2A) in a subset of MLL-rearranged leukemias. MLL-ENL fusion protein causes both lymphoid (predominantly B-ALL) and mixed lineage leukemias. This paper argues that Washington State should finally abandon the

Frye test for expert witnesses and adopt the Daubert test used by federal

courts and most states. It begins with a discussion of the background of

expert witnesses in the U.S. court system and its evolution through Frye.

Then, it looks at the increase in drunk driving in Washington State as a

case study for how the public depends on quality science to protect

individuals and punish wrongdoers. Through the case study, it is

apparent that Frye is an unworkable standard that should be superseded

by Daubert.

There was Time and Place is body of work that explores the relationship between reality and imagination as it relates to themes of creativity and transformation through time and place. Inspired by surrealism, automatism, science fiction, and poetic theory, the exhibited drawing-centered lithographs create encounters with fictional designs of rendered objects, machinery, and architecture. These encounters estrange us from monotony and banality of the current moment, reminding us that there is time and place for imagination in our routines.

Background/Introduction – Current research highlights three critical aspects of nurse wellbeing: the subjective personal perspective, multifaceted complexity, and variation across individuals. A particular gap in past research is a lack of understanding of how neurodivergence may impact nurses’ workplace wellbeing. Neurodiversity is the variation in human minds and neurocognitive functioning, and neurodivergence is the divergence from what society would consider the norm. Like wellbeing, it is difficult to capture, recognize, and define, which causes confusion among neurodivergent individuals and employers alike. We report chemical melting deposition (CMD), a manufacturing strategy designed to overcome the low mass loading and weak interfacial bonding inherent to vapor-based synthesis. Unlike conventional vapor routes, CMD leverages a transient liquid-phase transfer (TLPT) mechanism driven by the differential thermal degradation of carrier fibers to transfer and anchor nanoparticles directly onto target fibers. This process thermodynamically drives the wetting and interfacial fusion of nanoparticles, establishing a liquid-phase contact pathway that enables markedly higher active material loading. To validate the structural resilience of this fused architecture against extreme volumetric stress, we utilized lead oxide (PbO) as a model system, which …

Access to graduate education in the United States remains heavily stratified by structural, financial, and informational barriers. While undergraduate first-generation student outcomes are widely studied, fewer structural analyses examine how graduate-level “educational inheritance” shapes prospective applicants' navigational capital, particularly within competitive STEM fields like mathematics. Drawing upon theories of social capital and the “hidden curriculum,” this study investigates the relationship between an individual's knowledge of the graduate school application process and the highest level of education attained by an immediate family member.
