Using financial data from 47 publicly listed banks in Indonesia from 2013Q4 to 2023Q3, this study employs a new approach by utilizing ΔCoVaR as a proxy for financial stability to examine how changes in bank competition in bank competition and banking industry concentration affects financial stability and the effectiveness of bank lending channel transmission. We find that, on one hand, an increase in market power (decreased bank competition) and an increase in banking industry concentration reduce financial stability. On the other hand, an increase in banking industry concentration enhances the effectiveness of the bank lending channel transmission by increasing the …

Hierarchical Bayesian Evidence On Cbdc Adoption: The Case Of Indonesia’S Digital Rupiah, Akbar Syahid Rabbani, Jongsu Lee

This study analyzed accessibility, privacy, transferability, and interest rates related to the adoption of Digital Rupiah, Indonesia’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), among rural and urban consumers. Findings from a hierarchical Bayesian model show that mobile applications are the main acquisition channel, and enhanced transferability with bank accounts and electronic money boosts consumer utility. However, there are concerns about fully anonymous transactions, differentiated by socio-demographic profiles (age, income, education, and knowledge). Scenario analysis suggests the potential CBDC adoption rate in Indonesia could range from 38% to 55%, influenced by privacy levels and the central bank’s interest rates.

This study examines the impact of global political and climate uncertainty on bank stability, utilizing panel data from 604 banks across 40 countries during the period 2011–2022. Through fixed effects and difference GMM methodologies, the analysis reveals that both geopolitical and climate risks adversely affect bank stability. Notably, tightening governance creates a ‘regulatory compliance paradox’ which leads to lower climate readiness and bank stability. We also identified that capital buffers matter in enhancing bank readiness to face geopolitical and climate uncertainty. However, efficiency plays a dual role. This study builds on Javorcik (2004), who argues that countries attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with the expectation that spillovers will benefit local firms. However, empirical evidence on this effect remains inconsistent. This research addresses the gap by examining the impact of horizontal spillovers not only on production efficiency but also on production risk. It also accounts for firm heterogeneity in the manufacturing sector by classifying technological intensity using unsupervised machine learning, specifically K-means clustering, into three categories based on OECD (2011): High Technology (HT), Medium Technology (MT), and Low Technology (LT). We explored inclusive qualitative data collection strategies for autistic emerging adults (ages 18–25) to identify nutrition-related resource needs and inform intervention development. We conducted Zoom interviews with autistic emerging adults, their caregivers, and service providers. We co-developed recruitment materials with a community advisory board of autistic advocates and offered and adapted interview accommodations in real time to align with participants’ preferences. Common accommodations included receiving questions in advance and in the chat, having a caregiver present, and simplifying questions. Some techniques used with neurotypical participants translated well to our participants, such as reflective listening, a conversational tone, and allowing pauses; …

Portable air cleaners are playing an increasingly important role in managing indoor air quality in response to pressing issues like wildfire smoke events. Smoke is a complex mixture of gases and particulate matter; while established test methods exist for particulate matter, the dynamic behavior of gaseous pollutants is not well accounted for in current test methods. This is because prevailing air cleaner testing methods typically treat background losses as irreversible, whereas gases can engage in partitioning to and from test chamber surfaces. Ignoring these sorption interactions causes inaccurate estimation of an air cleaner's impact.

Immune cells elicit a continuum of transcriptional states after spinal cord injury (SCI). In mammals, inefficient debris clearance and chronic inflammation impede recovery and overshadow pro-regenerative immune functions. We found that zebrafish SCI elicits transient immune activation and efficient debris clearance. Transcriptomics and genetic ablation showed zebrafish macrophages are highly phagocytic and required for regeneration. Comparisons between zebrafish and mammalian macrophages identified transcription and immune response regulator (tcim) as an immune-enriched regenerative gene. Deletion of zebrafish tcim impairs phagocytosis and regeneration and activates a pro-inflammatory signature in leukocytes. The distribution and seasonal occurrence of manta and devil rays (mobulids) remain poorly understood across much of the Western Indian Ocean, particularly within remote island systems. Here, we present the first synthesis of species-level mobulid records for the Mascarene Archipelago (La Réunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues) using a combination of direct and passive citizen-science observations collected between 2014 and 2026. A total of 107 sightings were documented from 75 sighting events, comprising Mobula birostris (n = 29), M. thurstoni (n = 40), M. alfredi (n = 5), M. tarapacana (n = 2) and unidentified Mobula spp. (n = 31). We explored secondary English Language Arts teachers’ perceptions of Artificial Intelligence in the classroom. Using a mixed methods research design process, one hundred and forty-one secondary teachers were surveyed from several urban and suburban school districts in the state of Missouri. Respondents were comprised of forty-three English Language Arts teachers and ninety-seven non-English Language Arts teachers. Data were collected using a Qualtrics survey, focusing on three variables: Experience, Knowledge, and Awareness of AI (EKA); Perceived Outcomes of Using AI (PO); and Perceived Ability and Self-Efficacy with AI (PA). This paper reports on a mixed-method exploratory study gauging the feasibility of utilizing an untethered harness-based device to collect biomarker data from teachers at a single school in Tennessee. Collection occurred across the course of a year at three different timepoints: a typical workday, a high stress workday, and a break day. Overall, our participants had positive experiences with the data collection process, and their feedback iteratively influenced the protocol. Further, the preliminary data suggests the biomarkers indicate a sympathetic nervous response is seen when teachers report emotional or psychological stress. This symposium essay will offer insights into how legal scholarship—and the law—are changing in a time of social media. Platforms or their names may change, but the immediacy and connection that they offer, for better or worse, here to stay. The argument amounts to two sides of the same coin. Social media can raise the salience of an issue, story, or event, and in doing so, may provide information that helps to inform our work as legal scholars. The converse is also true: legal scholarship also needs to study social media. This essay takes each point in turn.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) can present health risks to humans, animals, or ecosystems. Communicating with the public about HABs risks can be challenging because symptoms vary in type and severity across different individuals. However, people with underlying health conditions are often particularly vulnerable to exposure, and they may experience negative health outcomes if they lack awareness of the risks that HABs pose.
