Global, Regional, And National Burden Of Stroke And Its Risk Factors, 1990–2021: A Systematic Analysis For The Global Burden Of Disease Study 2021, Gbd 2021 Stroke Risk Factor Collaborators
Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Publications
Background
Up-to-date estimates of stroke burden and attributable risks and their trends at global, regional, and national levels are essential for evidence-based health care, prevention, and resource allocation planning. We aimed to provide such estimates for the period 1990–2021.
Methods
We estimated incidence, prevalence, death, and disability-adjusted life-year (DALY) counts and age-standardised rates per 100 000 people per year for overall stroke, ischaemic stroke, intracerebral haemorrhage, and subarachnoid haemorrhage, for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. We also calculated burden of stroke attributable to 23 risk factors and six risk clusters (air pollution, tobacco smoking, behavioural, dietary, environmental, …

Tinjauan Regulasi Dan Kebijakan Dalam Pengembangan Green Jobs Di Indonesia, Muhamad Azami Nasri, Bening Kalimasada Aura Keindahan
Jurnal Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial
Green jobs have become a new trend in recent years, as they are needed by various industrial sectors. Regulatory support is a key aspect in mainstreaming green jobs. Green jobs are typically associated with occupations that contribute to preserving or restoring the environment, both in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, as well as in emerging green sectors like renewable energy and energy efficiency. This research aims to describe the regulatory framework in the development of green jobs in Indonesia. It is a descriptive qualitative study that primarily relies on secondary data, reviewing regulations related to green jobs. Additionally, …

The Evolution Of The Translations Of Virgil’S “The Aeneid”: An Analytical Comparison Of Robert Faglesand John Dryden's Translations Using Sentiment Analysis And Topic Modeling, Eric Zhang, Katherine Elkins
IPHS 200: Programming Humanity
This research poster aims to explore two English translations of the ancient Roman epic “The Aeneid” written by the poet Virgil. The two versions that were chosen for analysis are John Dryden’s translation from 1697 compared with Robert Fagles’ translation from 2006. This poster seeks to use sentiment analysis and word frequency analysis tools to analytically compare the two versions of the epic. From the results, the older translation appeared to use more formal wording and “dramatic” storytelling structures compared to a more “accurate” rendition of the epic translated using modern language. The sentiment analysis result also demonstrates greater sentiment …

Ai On The Air: Analyzing Ai Sentiment In Us News Reporting, Gwen Eisenbeis, Katherine Elkins
IPHS 200: Programming Humanity
This project examines sentiment surrounding mentions of artificial intelligence within news broadcasts of the three most prominent American news channels: FOX, CNN, and CNBC. Sentiment analysis was conducted on closed captioning data from news clips that mentioned “artificial intelligence” for each of the news channels from 2012 to 2024. This project seeks to evaluate sentiment as mentions of artificial intelligence increase and compare the respective sentiment for each news channel. While clear sentiment differences from the beginning of the time period to the end could not be determined, there was a difference in the overall sentiment trends for each news …

What Makes An Emotionally Compelling Novel? A Sentiment Analysis Of Science Fiction Novels 1984 And We, Annalia Fiore, Katherine Elkins
IPHS 200: Programming Humanity
The purpose of this project is to compare the Soviet novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (1924) to the English novel 1984 by George Orwell (1949). Many have previously drawn comparisons between the two works, but the focus of this research is to find dissimilarities in their respective emotional arcs using sentiment analysis, a computational tool used for processing large bodies of text. The findings of this research were twofold. Firstly, the novel We suffers from an undeveloped emotional arc due to a weak narrative voice and a lack of emotionally varied events. This is especially notable when compared to 1984, …

Trauma-Informed Teaching, Taylor Panoch
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Studies have shown that trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) play a significant role in student’s abilities to function both academically and behaviorally at school. Through the use of trauma-informed teaching strategies, teachers are able to better assist students in coping with their past or current traumas and understand that their behavior may be a result of their experiences. Trauma-informed teaching provides an abundance of benefits for both students and educators when implemented with fidelity. With these important research findings in mind, this school improvement plan was created to administer system-wide trauma-informed teaching training and strategies to support students who …

with historical texts and fostering information literacy. Grounded in the principles of epistemic cognition—epistemological doubt, volition, and resolution strategies—the plan outlines actionable steps to enhance inquiry-based learning and reflective practices. By addressing barriers such as traditional rote learning methods, teacher resistance, and resource constraints, the plan advocates for professional development, curriculum revision, and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Data-driven strategies, including formative assessments and reflective activities, will monitor progress and ensure continuous improvement. This approach aligns with Adelanto High School’s mission to prepare students for academic success and civic engagement, equipping them with essential skills for navigating an …

Family Medicine, East Africa
Background: Breast cancer immunohistochemistry is a biological characteristic of the tumour which has a role to diagnose molecular subtype, prognosticate and guide treatment and is categorised into 4 subtypes. Data in Tanzania was lacking and was based off data extrapolated from studies in Western Africa thus hypothesizing that women of African ancestry predominately develop Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC).
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out at two tertiary referral hospitals on participants who were recruited from the cancer registries from 2015 to 2022. Prevalence of each molecular subtype was determined and association between molecular subtype to demographic and …

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers who engage in federally prohibited activities such as not wearing safety belts, using hand-held mobile phones, or texting while driving endanger themselves and imperil the well-being of everyone who occupies the surrounding roadway environment. Unfortunately, conventional CMV inspection routines fail to detect many of these violations because inspectors have difficulty obtaining a clear view of truck cab interiors from inspection facilities. Recognizing it is critical to improve enforcement of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, this project evaluated the performance of a Driver Focus Camera System (DFCS) at an inspection facility on Interstate 75 northbound in …

Torture And Its Sequelae Among Prostituted Women In The United States, Melissa Farley, M. Alexis Kennedy
Criminal Justice Faculty Research
Background: Extreme violence and psychological abuse have been extensively documented and are pervasive in prostitution. Survivors of prostitution report high levels of posttraumatic stress disorder, dissociation, depression, and self-loathing. These are the same sequelae reported by torture survivors.
Objective: Severe forms of violence have been categorized as torture by experts. The authors note that torture is commonly suffered during prostitution and should be appropriately named.
Method: Using standardized measures and including a new measure of torture, we interviewed 45 women in the United States about their torture experiences in prostitution and their symptoms of PTSD, dissociation, childhood trauma, health status …

Bridging The Birth Divide: Doula Perspectives On Cesarean Trends In Switzerland And The U.S., Lina Verghese
Bridging The Birth Divide: Doula Perspectives On Cesarean Trends In Switzerland And The U.S., Lina Verghese
Switzerland: Global Health and Development Policy
Cesarean section (C-section) rates remain a global concern, reflecting variations in maternal care practices, healthcare access, and systemic biases. While essential in certain cases, the overuse of C-sections is linked to adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, reinforcing medicalized approaches to childbirth. This study explores disparities in C-section rates across regions in Switzerland (Zug and Jura) and the United States (Mississippi and Alaska) and examines the role of doulas in addressing these disparities.
Using a mixed-methods approach, qualitative interviews with doulas and quantitative regional data highlight systemic and cultural influences on C-section trends. In affluent Zug, convenience and elective procedures drive …

Increasing Student Achievement Through Departmentalization, Braxton Williams
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Classroom configuration and models of instruction have traditionally been self-contained classrooms with whole-group instruction. This traditional method of teaching is being challenged by recent research showing that small group targeted instruction is more beneficial for student outcomes as well as research showing that a departmentalized classroom configuration is more advantageous for teachers and students than self-contained models. This school improvement plan presents data while addressing the challenges of implementing a departmentalized system for Nixon Elementary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
