The Effect Of Attitudinal Dynamics Of Inpatient Nurses On The Use Of A Mobile Electronic Health Record, Mark Ambler Sep 2024

The Effect Of Attitudinal Dynamics Of Inpatient Nurses On The Use Of A Mobile Electronic Health Record, Mark Ambler

Dissertations

The implementations and ongoing use of mobile information systems could enhance nursing workflows at the point of care. However, when a system is not perceived as easy to use or useful, the frequency of its use is decreased. This non-experimental quantitative study conducted a survey of inpatient bedside nurses and nurse leaders to determine how their perceptions and attitudes affected the use of mobile technology. Statistically significant positive correlations were found when the participants were asked if the mobile system gave them greater control over their work. A statistically significant relationship was found between bedside nurses and nurse leaders, where …

Mental Health During The Covid-19 Pandemic In Trinidad: An Analysis Of Depression, Anxiety, And Stress Among Essential Workers, Bernadette Marson, Gerard A. Hutchinson

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Research shows that some essential workers, such as healthcare workers, social workers, and first responders (including police officers, paramedics, and firefighters), are at greater risk for developing both short- and long-term mental health problems (Berger et al., 2012; Canady, 2022; Grey et al., 2020; Haugen et al., 2012; Mohamed et al., 2022; Petrie et al., 2018). The most prevalent of these include anxiety, depression, and stress, as well as other social and cognitive problems—with stress causing harmful effects on mental health and potentially resulting in anxiety and depression, which may then disrupt an individual’s social relationships, family life, and work. …

Projected Near-Future Flooding And Warming Increase Graminoid Biomass In A High-Latitude Coastal Wetland, Matteo Petit Bon, A. Joshua Leffler, Katharine C. Kelsey, Tyler J. Williams, Karen H. Beard

Wildland Resources Faculty Publications

  1. With rapid climate warming, some coastal high-latitude ecosystems are experiencing more frequent tidal floods. Yet little is known about tundra plant-community responses to flooding, and whether Arctic warming may modulate such responses.

  2. In a 2-year, full-factorial field experiment in coastal tundra wetlands of the Yukon-Kuskokwim (Y-K) Delta (western Alaska), we simulated periodic tidal flood events at two severities under both ambient and warmed summer conditions and measured above-ground plant-community responses. Low-severity flooding represented overbank flooding 1 day per month, which is consistent with projections in the next 5 years. High-severity flooding represented a more impactful flooding regime (three consecutive days …

East 168 Realty Llc V. Galindo

All Decisions

In this non-payment case, the landlord sought to restore the proceeding for a final judgment after a March 2022 stipulation bifurcated rent arrears. The tenant successfully argued that due to an HRA check received, her balance was effectively zero as of January 2023. The court dismissed the petition without prejudice for any rent arrears accrued after January 2023, vacating the judgment and warrant against the tenant.

Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Scholarship

This research introduces a novel method for evaluating the structural features of biomolecules, utilizing our innovative Elliptical Dichroism (ED) spectrometer specifically designed for stereochemical analysis. By integrating ED spectrometry with autocorrelation (AC) analysis, we investigate the conformational characteristics of biological molecules such as amino acids, proteins, and extracellular vesicles (EVs) induced by elliptically polarized UV absorption. Our streamlined approach offers a cost-effective and portable solution with minimal sample consumption and supports multiple working modes to efficiently characterize biomolecular structures. The insight from this new approach demonstrates potential applications in using biomolecular characterization for cancer detection.

Influences Of Perceived Environment, Partner Support, And Attitudinal Familism On Physical Activity Among Mexican American Women, Neomie C. Congello

Dissertations

Healthy lifestyle behaviors such as engaging in physical activity (PA) may reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), the number one cause of mortality among Mexican American women (MAW). Research findings show that MAW have low levels of leisure time PA and vary in the amount of overall PA. The influence of partner support has received little attention in studies examining predictors of PA. This cross sectional study investigated factors influencing PA among MAW aged 19 to 64 years old (mean = 39.4, SD = 11.1) who may be at increased risk for CVD based on hypertension, diabetes and obesity …

Stakeholder Expectations Using Co-Teaching To Improve Mathematics Instruction For Students With Disabilities, Leslie Wigginton Schnars Sep 2024

Stakeholder Expectations Using Co-Teaching To Improve Mathematics Instruction For Students With Disabilities, Leslie Wigginton Schnars

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

When special education was first introduced into the general education environment, students were served in separate classrooms. Throughout the years, special education services have evolved and students with mild to moderate disabilities are now educated alongside their non-disabled peers. The foundation of the social interdependence theory is that outcomes are often determined by individual interactions and the interdependence structured in specific situations. For this interdependence to be present, more than one person must be involved and changes in one person must impact change in the others participating. This is part of the foundation of co-teaching. While there is a great …

Exploring How Uncertain Labels From Non-Consensus Panels Affect Machine Learning, Amal Almansour Sep 2024

Exploring How Uncertain Labels From Non-Consensus Panels Affect Machine Learning, Amal Almansour

College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations

A dataset becomes meaningful for analysis when it contains more representative features. Machine and deep learning models rely on annotated instances for training. The annotation process is usually done either by humans (experts or crowdsourcing) or by models. In many cases, the variability between humans (the inter-observer variability) in evaluation leads to uncertainty in the learning process. Due to the lack of reliable labels in large datasets, the inter-observer variability can be quantified with different methods to estimate the ground truth label (i.e., referenced standard label) for model learning.

In health care, with the rise of artificial intelligence in clinical …

Understanding the mechanisms underlying immune evasion is crucial for developing novel anticancer modalities. To systematically uncover tumor-intrinsic genetic modulators involved in immune escape in tumor microenvironment, we performed genome-scale in vivo CRISPR screens in two syngeneic models and later expanded up to seven syngeneic models with a focused validation library. These data help us better understand tumor immune evasion and pave the way for developing effective therapeutics. Importantly, we uncovered that Mga depletion elicited an antitumor immune response and inhibited tumor growth in triple-negative breast cancer. Our findings suggest that Mga may play a role in modulating the tumor immune …

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s Red List of Threatened Species is regarded as the primary source of global extinction risk for species. Despite this importance, the IUCN has assessed less than 20% of the world′s estimated 400,000 flowering plants due to issues like insufficient data or a lack of experts. Thousands of conservation status assessments were generated recently in response to the call to action by the revised Target 2 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC), “An assessment of the conservation status of all known plant species, as far as possible, to guide conservation action.” …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Effective psychotherapy of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains challenging owing to the fragile nature of fear extinction, for which the ventral hippocampal CA1 (vCA1) region is considered as a central hub. However, neither the core pathway nor the cellular mechanisms involved in implementing extinction are known. Here, we unveil a direct pathway, where layer 2a fan cells in the lateral entorhinal cortex (LEC) target parvalbumin-expressing interneurons (PV-INs) in the vCA1 region to propel low-gamma-band synchronization of the LEC-vCA1 activity during extinction learning. Bidirectional manipulations of either hippocampal PV-INs or LEC fan cells sufficed for fear extinction. Gamma entrainment of vCA1 …

Student Nurse Perspectives On The Impact Of Longitudinal Home Visits To People With Dementia And Their Carers, Wendy J. Grosvenor

Dissertations

Multiple deficits have been identified in dementia education by UK policy makers and, from September 2015, the Department of Health mandated that undergraduate healthcare curricula included dementia. Here I explore one particular novel approach, the Time for Dementia Programme, which had at its core longitudinal learning from people with dementia and their carers.

The study aimed to evaluate the impact of visits to the homes of people with dementia and their carers as part of the Time for Dementia Programme. To do this it explored adult nursing students' perceptions of their professional learning and practice and career destination.
