Perspectives On Quality-Of-Life Changes Experienced By Mental Health Court Participants, Kathy Joan Edwards
Perspectives On Quality-Of-Life Changes Experienced By Mental Health Court Participants, Kathy Joan Edwards
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The association between mental health court participation and a reduction in recidivism is well documented. The question of whether mental health courts meet their therapeutic goals has received little scholarly attention. Therapeutic outcomes for mental health court participants are not well understood. Quality-of-life changes are a therapeutic outcome for mental health court participants. The purpose of this study was to explore factors related to such changes. The conceptual framework was based on therapeutic jurisprudence and criminogenic risk theory as implemented through the risk-need responsivity model. Quality-of-life changes as experienced and reported by 13 mental health court participants were qualitatively examined …

Turkish Journal of Botany
The medicinal properties of narcissus plants are attributed to the presence of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids. Elicitors, such as nanoparticles, are employed to enhance the production of secondary metabolites through signaling and the generation of reactive oxygen species. We investigated the effects of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles (Fe3 O4 -NPs), trans-cinnamic acid (tCA), and L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) precursors on various physiological and biochemical parameters in Narcissus tazetta L., with a particular focus on alkaloid content. Fe3 O4 - NPs treatment significantly increased photosynthetic pigments, secondary metabolites (including alkaloids, phenolic compounds), total soluble carbohydrates, and polysaccharides. The activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, POD), phenylalanine …

Turkish Journal of Botany
Cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channel (CNGC) is one of the important calcium conducting channels and involves in numerous biological functions such as plant development, phytohormone responses, plant-pathogen interactions. Nevertheless, identification of CNGC gene family has yet not been carried out in date palm crop. In this study, genome-wide identification, and pharmacological analysis of date CNGCs was conducted against fungal pathogens. The 26 PdCNGC genes were identified by using extensive bioinformatics tools. Gene ontology (GO) analysis showed that signal transduction, transmembrane transport and ion binding proteins were at the top in biological process and molecular functions of PdCNGCs. Protein-protein interaction of PdCNGCs …

Exploring Indigenous Climate Change Perceptions Through Tribal Talking Circles In The Colorado Plateau, Bayli Hanson, Roslynn Brain Mccann, Danielle Smiley
Exploring Indigenous Climate Change Perceptions Through Tribal Talking Circles In The Colorado Plateau, Bayli Hanson, Roslynn Brain Mccann, Danielle Smiley
Environment and Society Student Research
Marginalized communities, including Indigenous populations, experience climate change at a more extreme rate given where they live, despite their knowledge of and connection to the land. Due to this interconnection, there have been many negative impacts on cultural identities in correlation with climate change. For example, Indigenous communities that continue growing food, hunting and foraging on traditional lands now face increasingly limited resources due to changes in the land itself. To better understand Tribal experiences with our changing climate, this qualitative research study involved talking circles with Tribal members in the Colorado Plateau region of the United States. Specifically, our …
The Relationship Between The Clinical Scales Of The Personality Assessment Inventory And Bmi Reduction In Bariatric Surgery Patients, Douglas Lytz
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
Since the National Institute of Health recommendation in 1991, most bariatric clinics and insurance companies across the United States now require psychological evaluations for patients before receiving bariatric surgery (Marek & Heinberg, 2016). Clinicians are now using various objective personality measures and other assessment tools during comprehensive evaluations to help make recommendations to surgeons and clinical staff about patient suitability for weight loss surgery. Previous studies suggest that specific demographics and clinical elevations on objective personality assessments may predict the reduction of body mass index (BMI) in patients after bariatric surgery (Oltmanns et al., 2020; Hoyt & Walter, 2022a). This …

Mirror Mirror On The Screen Show The Me That I Want Seen: Navigating Digital Influences On Identity Construction: A Qualitative Case Study, Jaime Digirolamo Vona
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative case study explores how information messages, on and offline, influence the identity construction of young adult learners using a self-authorship frame at County Community College (CCC). Self-authorship is the construction of beliefs, values, and identities based on a personally defined internal process rather than reliance on external formulas for meaning (Baxter Magolda, 2023). Data collection and analysis included semi-structured interview transcriptions from eighteen students aged 18-24. The findings revealed the dynamic interplay between traditional values and online ideals, highlighting the challenges of influence and dissonance in the identity journey. The study's findings call on educators and policymakers to …

Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The current study explores the impact of teaching English language in a vocational education context by evaluating the implementation of language learning strategies (LLS) by using a TOEFL mock test. To accomplish the aims of this study, 80 students from Vocational Education Schools (VES) were engaged to respond to the Oxford Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (OSILL). The findings indicate that the differences between gender and the six parts of OSILL reveal that neither males nor females are statistically significant in any of these strategies when employed in academic English learning contexts; The significance value is p<0.05. A strong positive correlation exists between the two parts of OSILL strategies and English language proficiency. Memory strategies significantly correlate with the language proficiency of the (TOEFL).

How Family Communication Emerges In Hpv Vaccine Parent Narratives, Samantha Garcia, Suellen Hopfer, Michelle Miller-Day, Jamie Mccain, Michael L. Hecht
Communication Faculty Articles and Research
Family communication surrounding HPV vaccination can support or hinder HPV cancer prevention strategies. We used narrative communication theory to elicit HPV vaccine decision narratives in the context of family communication from a purposive sample of 29 parents of adolescents. Parent narratives indicated that family negotiations occur throughout the decision-making process, topic avoidance was common among parents of unvaccinated and undervaccinated children, parents had concerns that vaccination is a sign of approving sexual permissiveness, and family communication was often prompted by encounters in the exam room. Understanding complex family dynamics in the context of vaccination decision-making, the role of family communication …

The Hydro-Climatic Budget And Its Role In The Hydrological Situation In The Muthanna Desert, Mohammed Jaber Frhaan Alaajebi, Walaa Kameal Hussein Alasady
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Al-Muthanna desert occupies the largest part of the governorate's area, as it is located in the southern part of Iraq and is located within the dry climate. Therefore, water is of great importance in it, as Al-Muthanna desert receives small amounts of rain in specific seasons and also suffers from evaporation, so the lost water is more than the effective rain. Consequently, the climatic water balance is of great importance to know the imports of surface and groundwater, which depends on the relationship between the amount of rainfall and the amounts of evaporation/transpiration, through which the surplus or deficit
