We present an overview and first results from the Spectroscopic Ultradeep Survey Probing Extragalactic Near-infrared Stellar Emission (SUSPENSE), executed with NIRSpec on JWST. The primary goal of the SUSPENSE program is to characterize the stellar, chemical, and kinematic properties of massive quiescent galaxies at cosmic noon. In a single deep NIRSpec/MSA configuration, we target 20 distant quiescent galaxy candidates (z = 1-3, H AB ≤ 23), as well as 53 star-forming galaxies at z = 1-4. With 16 hr of integration and the G140M-F100LP dispersion-filter combination, we observe numerous Balmer and metal absorption lines for all quiescent candidates. We derive …

British Columbia Teachers’ Beliefs And Experiences On Implementing Social And Emotional Learning, Lori Larkin Sep 2024

British Columbia Teachers’ Beliefs And Experiences On Implementing Social And Emotional Learning, Lori Larkin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a school-based educational intervention aimed at helping children and youth develop competencies to promote positive academic growth, behavior, and development. The success of the SEL intervention depends on several factors beyond the curriculum, including the role of teachers, the quality of the SEL implementation, and the classroom and school context. While research on the teachers’ role in successful SEL implementation has been conducted, less is known about how SEL is implemented in an impoverished and diverse school context in British Columbia in Northern Canada. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to explore …

The Legal Protection For Refugees In The Sultanate Of Oman., Abdelnaser Aljahani, Saif Al Rawahi

Sultan Qaboos University Legal Studies Journal

The Sultanate of Oman is not a State party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees (the 1951 Refugee Convention) and its 1967 Protocol, which establish refugee rights and obligations. In addition, there are no specific national laws or administrative regulations governing the right to asylum. However, the Basic Statute of the Sultanate of Oman and the Foreign Residency Law in Oman explicitly grant the right to asylum to a specific category of individuals, who are political refugees. The Basic Statute of Oman refers to political asylum briefly, while the Foreign Residency Law in Oman includes several …

Leveraging Propagation Delay For Wormhole Detection In Wireless Networks, Harry May, Travis Atkison Sep 2024

Leveraging Propagation Delay For Wormhole Detection In Wireless Networks, Harry May, Travis Atkison

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Detecting and mitigating wormhole attacks in wireless networks remains a critical challenge due to their deceptive nature and potential to compromise network integrity. This paper proposes a novel approach to wormhole detection by leveraging propagation delay analysis between network nodes. Unlike traditional methods that rely on signature-based detection or specialized hardware, our method focuses on analyzing propagation delay timings to identify anomalous behavior indicative of wormhole attacks. The proposed methodology involves collecting propagation delay data in both normal network scenarios and scenarios with inserted malicious wormhole nodes. By comparing these delay timings, our approach aims to differentiate between legitimate network …

Understanding The Drivers Of Industry 4.0 Technologies To Enhance Supply Chain Sustainability: Insights From The Agri-Food Industry, Guoqing Zhao, Xiaoning Chen, Paul Jones, Shaofeng Liu, Carmen Lopez, Leonardo Leoni, Denis Dennehy

Plymouth Business School

The sustainability of agri-food supply chains (AFSCs) is severely threatened by regional and global events (e.g., conflicts, natural and human-made disasters, climate crises). In response, the AFSC industry is seeking digital solutions using Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies to enhance resilience and efficiency. However, why I4.0 adoption remains stubbornly low in the agri-food industry remains poorly understood. To address this gap, this study draws on middle-range theory (MRT) and uses thematic analysis, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process, total interpretive structural modelling, and fuzzy cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification to produce insights from nine case studies in China that have invested …

Historical Company And Industry Publications: Finding Aid, Bethany Latham

Finding Aids

This collection (cataloged on Bib #2888882) is comprised of items related to American industries, companies, and association/guilds, primarily from the 1940s to 1960s. These include short publications, pamphlets, reports, and product catalogs. The items originated with the Library’s vertical file, which was culled and the majority of items discarded in 2020. Items related to Alabama and items deemed of significant historical interest were retained and added to the Library’s Special Collections. The vertical file’s original contents date back to JSU’s time as a Normal School; it appears items were added up until at least the 1990s.
