Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Project Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) project was to implement a system that routinely assesses for behavior changes in psychiatric patients presenting to the emergency department to improve staff intervention of escalating behaviors and decrease physical restraint use.

Background: The project was implemented in a 45-bed emergency department in a community-based hospital affiliated with a large hospital system in Houston, Texas.

Methodology: The project utilizes the Behavioral Activity Rating Scale (BARS) to assess patients' behaviors at routine intervals throughout shifts and a comfort cart that houses several non-pharmacological intervention items to use to de-escalate adverse behaviors. The staff …

The AWE AMTM is a wide field-of-view (WFOV) infrared imaging radiometer designed for use in measuring the P1(2) and P1(4) emission lines of the earths OH layer. From these measurements, the atmospheric temperature is determined and finally images of gravity waves will be produced as the AWE field of view transverses the OH layer. Designed, built, and characterized by Utah State University (USU) and its Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL), the sensor has been externally mounted to the International Space Station (ISS) looking nadir. This study assesses the relationship between servant leadership practices and job satisfaction in public organizations in Tanzania, with a focus on Posts Corporation Headquarters (TPCH). It employed a descriptive survey and correlational design involving 150 respondents. Quantitative data were analyzed using the statistical program IBM SPSS Statistics 25, while qualitative data were examined using content analysis. The findings indicate that servant leadership has been thoroughly practiced at TPCH, as indicated by a mean score of 3.63 and a standard deviation of 0.943. The relationship between Human Resource Management (HRM) practices and employee well-being is complex and often contradictory. While HRM practices can enhance employee well-being through various mechanisms, they can also negatively impact well-being, especially in contexts of high-demand jobs. This study investigates the mediating roles of job crafting and work engagement in this relationship. Data from 100 hotel employees in Bandung, Indonesia, were analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS). While HRM practices did not directly influence well-being, they significantly impacted job crafting. Interestingly, job crafting, not work engagement, emerged as a strong mediator between HRM practices and employee well-being. These findings …

Predicting academic outcomes is complex and influenced by factors like socioeconomic background, motivation, and learning style. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms have become increasingly important due to their ability to analyze large data volumes and identify prediction patterns. Results show ML’s success in predicting academic performance, though effectiveness varies by dataset, algorithm choice, and training features. There is no consensus on the most effective ML method for predicting student performance with broad applicability. Among the five algorithms evaluated in this study, the Random Forest Classifier emerged as the best model, achieving the highest G-Mean and accuracy of 0.9243 and 85.42% respectively. …

Large dams are among the most massive infrastructures built in the Mekong River and provide water-energy generators in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB). Nevertheless, the Mekong River’s current transformation using electricity utilizing hydropower technology has damaged the local ecosystem in the LMB with social and environmental effects. Drawing upon feminist posthumanism, this study argues that the ongoing hydropower dam constructions in the LMB reflect uneven development and exclusion for women and the more-than-human nature of Mekong biodiversity. This paper looks at how Malaysia has improved its efforts to protect the welfare of migrant workers in line with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Since 2019, Malaysia has implemented three policy changes, including expanding the national social protection systems to migrant workers, amending the Employment Act, and implementing the employer-paid model for recruitment costs. This study investigates the difficulties that expatriates encounter while relocating to a foreign cultural environment. The examination of the issue is based on the results of primary research conducted among the Japanese community living and working in Hungary. Many circumstances make it difficult for an expat to feel at ease in the host country. Integration and thus the success of the posting are greatly hampered by overcoming cultural differences as well as linguistic challenges in a non-English speaking country. The process of improving the strength of granular soil by utilising microorganisms is known as the biocementation process. This method involves the precipitation of calcium carbonate into the soil matrix structure through microbial calcite precipitation, resulting in the cementation of soil particles and subsequent improvement in strength and reduced permeability. This study investigated the potential of using Sporosarcina pasteurii, a microorganism strain with urease activity, to stabilise residual soil through urea hydrolysis. The study explores the enhancement of geotechnical characteristics of lateritic soil sourced from a popular burrow pit site in Kano State, Nigeria, by incorporating Periwinkle Shell Ash (PSA). The soil sample was mixed with 0 to 10% PSA content at 2% increment by dry weight of the lateritic soil. This study aims to develop and analyse the effect of single- and double-layer smart coating systems on enhancing the corrosion protection of carbon steel pipelines in oil and gas applications, addressing the challenge of corrosion in such harsh environments. Benzotriazole (BTA) is loaded into halloysite nanotubes (HNT) using a vacuum cyclic method to form BTA-HNT, and boiled linseed oil (BLO) is encapsulated within urea-formaldehyde microcapsules, referred to as MC-BLO. The oscillating water column (OWC) device is one of the most promising ocean wave energy extraction technologies. Most OWC studies focus on high-wave density areas, but there is limited research in low-wave density regions. This study evaluates the hydrodynamic efficiency of a 1:40 scale offshore OWC model in low-wave climates. Experiments were conducted using five different relative gaps (i/d) between the model and horizontal bottom plates, each with three distinct shapes (cone-shaped, circular-shaped, and flat), across seven wave periods in a wave flume. Primary intraocular lymphoma (PIOL) is a rare form of primary central nervous system lymphoma that poses diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific clinical features and complex imaging characteristics. This paper presents a focus case and two companion cases, highlighting the complexities in identifying and treating PIOL. In the focus case, A 66-year-old male experienced gradual painless vision loss with choroidal thickening on funduscopic exam and subsequent follow-up MRI. Trans-vitreal biopsy confirmed PIOL, and the patient was treated with intravitreal steroids and systemic rituximab without recurrence. The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges particularly among group homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) given the close interactions and living arrangements of residents. Thus, the purpose of this project was to determine if an educational intervention focused on COVID-19 and COVID-19 infection control practices increased knowledge and awareness among caregivers working in a group home. A total of 10 individuals who worked as a caregiver in a group home agreed to participate in the educational intervention. Their average age was 43.30 (SD = 8.65), ranging from 31 to 57 years old. Punitive disciplinary approaches have been used for decades in primary grades with little improvement in behavior and negative impacts on classroom climate. This qualitative case study explored the perspectives of administrators and educators implementing restorative practice (RP) with fidelity in the primary grades of urban public elementary schools. The study addressed the restorative principles of norm setting, community-building circles, restorative chats, and restorative conferences for implementing restorative justice with fidelity. Unplanned or early hospital readmission have become factors used to measure standard of care in acute care settings. Because unplanned or early hospital readmission are costly, the Medicaid Hospital Readmission Reduction Program applies fines to hospitals that have early or unplanned readmissions. Though research has been conducted to identify causes and develop interventions, recent studies have not incorporated social determinants of health (SDOH). This collaborative autoethnography analyzes the role of self-efficacy within our teacher identity crisis. As English teachers in training, we have experienced situations inside and outside the classroom that motivated a professional identity crisis and led us questioning our efficacy as teachers. Through this study we explore the intricacies of our very own selves as prospective English teachers. We blended storytelling and analysis through a set of data generation procedures that included collaborative witnessing, written personal narratives and semi-structured interviews, which allowed us to co-construct our stories. The objective of this experimental research was to compare the development of spatial sense in two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometry content of Mathayomsuksa 1 Students using Van Hiele model as an assisting multimedia. The cluster random sampling method was used in the study, and the participants were 33 Mathayomsuksa first year students from 1/4 who were selected though cluster random sampling method in the first semester of the academic year 2022 at Yothinburana School. The research objectives were to: 1) examine the congruence and analyze the influence of variables of a structural equation model of school administrators’ empathic leadership affecting teacher well-being with empirical data, and 2) develop guidelines for developing empathic leadership among school administrators.
