Introduction: Significant changes in the nutrition and physical fitness of children and adolescents have been observed in many countries around the world. The purpose of this study is to determine the changes in the prevalence of underweight, normal BMI, and overweight, as well as in the physical fitness of girls and boys from eastern Poland. Materials and methods: The study was conducted over the years 2006–2021. BMI was calculated, and physical fitness was assessed using the EUROFIT test. The results were statistically analyzed. It is challenging to acquire user data from a diverse set of adequate numbers of suitable real end users for design, evaluation, and improvement of a product. Involving real users in evaluation requires a sufficient level of product maturity. It is difficult to bootstrap and test personalization because it requires personal data. This disclosure describes techniques to overcome these limitations by generating synthetic data that mimics authentic digital and social user practices via simulated personas with local memory. Hydrogels are soft, highly hydrated polymeric networks commonly used as biomaterial scaffolds in tissue engineering. To mimic the extracellular matrix of tissues, hydrogels can be chemically modified to incorporate either bioactive molecules such as peptides, or physically modified with crosslinkers to alter hydrogel stiffness and degradation. Hydrogels with defined characteristics can be synthesized using chemical reaction schemes such as photo-click chemistry, which offers spatial and temporal control over biochemical and physical properties. Roots And Refuge: A Critical Exploration Of Nature In Black Visual Narratives, Desiree Cueto, Wanda Brooks, Susan Browne

College of Education Departmental Research

This article examined the underrepresentation of Black characters in children’s picture books, particularly in natural settings, and its effect on Black children’s relationship with nature. Through an analysis of four contemporary picture books, the study revealed how visual depictions challenge these exclusions and expand narratives about Black engagement with the natural world. Utilizing visual semiotics and the theory of Black Aliveness, this research underscores the transformative power of illustrations by Black artists in enriching children’s literature and advancing joy.

Nevada is on the cusp of a housing catastrophe, especially in Southern Nevada.

Consider that the state has fewer households than it should. A household is defined as one or more people who have a home of their own. But for price, location, configuration, and other factors, about 60,000 households in Nevada do not exist because there is no home for them. And it’s going to get worse. Including these “missing households,” nearly 470,000 new occupied homes will need to be built between 2020 and 2040 to meet the housing needs of all Nevadans, or about 23,000 per year. The …

Blair Kelley's Black Folk: The Roots of the Black Working Class offers a comprehensive examination of the experiences of working-class African Americans from the Reconstruction era to contemporary times. The book challenges prevailing stereotypes associated with the working class, particularly the imagery that often excludes black Americans, and emphasizes their central role in labor movements and the quest for dignity in work. Through extensive historical research and personal narratives, Kelley highlights the struggles faced by newly emancipated African Americans, who encountered devaluation of their labor and systemic discrimination in the workforce.
