Projected Loss Of Rock Glacier Habitat In The Contiguous Western United States With Warming, Abigail C. Lute, John T. Abatzoglou, Andrew G. Fountain, Timothy C. Bartholomaus Oct 2024

Projected Loss Of Rock Glacier Habitat In The Contiguous Western United States With Warming, Abigail C. Lute, John T. Abatzoglou, Andrew G. Fountain, Timothy C. Bartholomaus

Geology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Rock glaciers support alpine biodiversity and may respond more slowly to warming than snow or glaciers. While responses of snow and glaciers to climate change are relatively well understood, a robust assessment of rock glacier environmental niche, future distributions of rock glaciers and potential for development of rock glaciers from current glaciers is lacking. Using process-relevant, high-resolution environmental descriptors, we develop a species distribution model of the topographic, geologic and hydroclimatic niche of rock glaciers that provides novel estimates of potential rock glacier distributions for different climates. We identify mean annual air temperature and headwall area as the dominant controls …

So You Want To Support Open Education Resources?, Jackson Harper

Librarian Posters and Presentations

Open education resources (OER) are learning materials that are free for users to utilize and share. They can take many forms-- learning modules, video lectures, etc.-- but they are most commonly known as free online textbooks. In this form, they are a growing presence on course syllabi, but what exactly are these things that faculty are integrating into their courses? Where do they come from? How do they help students? In the presentation, attendees will learn the fundamentals of OER and the reasons instructors choose to adopt them.

Who’S Actually Afraid Of Artificial Intelligence (Ai?), Anthony Adeloye

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Purpose of the study: The main purpose of the study is to explore and discuss the views of a group of Nigerian academic librarians about Artificial Intelligence (AI). The study is considered important because a perusal of an academic librarian’s role requires the ability to organise and manage knowledge which invariably entails the use of some sort of technology which in the context of this study, is artificial intelligence (AI).

Method: To understand the degree to which academic librarians in Nigeria perceive the role of AI in academia, and indeed, society, data were collected from an online survey that …

Application Of Combined Geophysical And Archaeological Survey Techniques: A Case Study Of Singida Region, Tanzania, Makarius Peter Itambu, Eliah Mwamakimbula1, Nasra Yahaya, Jasmine Kilela

Tanzania Journal of Science

The seismically active Singida region in central Tanzania lies at the edge of the East African Rift System (EARS) which is locally designated the Gregory Rift. The archaeological record of the region, especially in the eastern part of the Ikungi District, unlike that of northern Tanzania, is comparatively unknown, despite early archaeological expeditions hinting at its potential. Recent research in the eastern area suggests that it preserves a long record of hominin occupation spanning the Early to Late Stone Age. This interdisciplinary field work, carried out between August 2022 to August 2023, resulted in the discovery of a relatively deep …

Pacific Faculty Work

We present a sample of 1165 extreme emission-line galaxies (EELGs) at 4 < z < 9 selected using James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRCam photometry in the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science (CEERS) program. We use a simple method to photometrically identify EELGs with Hβ + [O iii] (combined) or Hα emission of observed-frame equivalent width (EW) > 5000 Å. JWST/NIRSpec spectroscopic observations of a subset (34) of the photometrically selected EELGs validate our selection method: All spectroscopically observed EELGs confirm our photometric identification of extreme emission, including some cases where the spectral-energy-distribution-derived photometric redshifts are incorrect. We find that the medium-band F410M filter in CEERS is particularly efficient at identifying EELGs, both in terms of including emission lines in the filter and in correctly identifying the continuum between Hβ + [O iii] and Hα in the neighboring broadband filters. We present examples of EELGs that …

College Readiness In Career And Technical Education Instruction During The Pandemic, Kenyetta A. Kendrick Oct 2024

College Readiness In Career And Technical Education Instruction During The Pandemic, Kenyetta A. Kendrick

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

College and career readiness (CCR) has become a priority in national education policy, leading to changes to CCR standards, practices, and measurements. In response to the COVID pandemic, school closings altered student engagement in career and technical education (CTE) courses. CTE teachers played a crucial role in providing CCR support to students by looking for ways to better align curriculum and engagement for successful transitions from high school to college. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to examine how teachers’ implementation of college and career instruction in CTE courses was influenced by the pandemic. Conley’s college readiness framework …

Meningioma: International Consortium On Meningiomas Consensus Review On Scientific Advances & Treatment Paradigms For Clinicians, Researchers, And Patients, Michael Mcdermott

All Publications

Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors in adults and are increasing in incidence due to the aging population and increased access to neuroimaging. While most exhibit nonmalignant behavior, a subset of meningiomas are biologically aggressive and are associated with treatment resistance, resulting in significant neurologic morbidity and even mortality. In recent years, meaningful advances in our understanding of the biology of these tumors have led to the incorporation of molecular biomarkers into their grading and prognostication. However, unlike other central nervous system (CNS) tumors, a unified molecular taxonomy for meningiomas has not yet been established and remains an …
