Machine learning offers innovative tools to enhance research on federal nutrition programs and food decision-making, moving beyond traditional methods. Algorithms extract key features to pinpoint potential program issues, allowing for more refined predictions about participation and behavior using large-scale data, unlike prior studies that typically rely on controlled lab settings. We propose a case study using machine learning to predict participation in a major nutrition education program, with implications for diet quality and food security. Nearly 20% of Americans telework or work from home. Telework has the potential to impact household food insecurity by reducing household time constraints and increasing household disposable income and time flexibility. Using data from the Household Pulse Survey, this study analyzes the association between telework and food insecurity in the United States. Two-stage least squares results indicate the association between telework and food insecurity varies with income. Telework is associated with reduced food insecurity among households with income between 100% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL) and increased food insecurity among households with income below 100% FPL.

In assessments of wellbeing, accounting students report experiencing significant amounts of stress. Bjornsen et al (2024) describe a wellbeing program integrated into the curriculum of a small accounting program of a university in the American Midwest. The authors note several areas of concern based on student responses to the wellbeing assessment portion of the program. In particular, accounting students noted that they experience a lot of stress. We extended the Bjornsen et al assessment by including demographic data to determine whether the areas of concern varied by student groups. Assessment of outcomes in higher education continues to be an important area of study. This paper examines the use of activity-based-assessments in two different courses, an undergraduate general studies course, and a senior capstone course. Relationships between the direct assessments and other indirect measures are explored. The process for implementing the instruments, along with how the institution utilizes the results are included. The procedure utilized could be useful for other quantitative courses with little impact on instructional time.

The purpose of this research is to identify best practices for the successful employment of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Through a qualitative analysis of first-hand accounts of people with IDD, their family, and employers, my goal is to better understand the benefits and challenges of seeking employment with IDD and hiring employees with IDD. My analysis uncovers several themes, including each group’s motives for seeking employment or helping those with disabilities find employment. Drawing from the information gleaned in my study, I have identified actions organizations take to hire people with IDD and to impact the business.

Sustained Employment Support For People With Autism Spectrum Disorder And Their Employers: A Case Study Of The Autism Center Of Nebraska's Connections Program, Katie Maguire, Inhyun Han, Julia Cronin-Gilmore

People with Autism Spectrum Disorder struggle to find and maintain adequate employment throughout their working lives, often due to challenges such as limited social skills, anxiety, hypersensitivity to their physical environment, and difficulty understanding and performing job tasks. This study investigated the support and training provided by the Autism Center of Nebraska’s Connections program. The study used semi-structured interviews and surveys with eight program clients and four program employees. Clients and staff reported challenges and successes and made recommendations for improvement that may be instructive for other ASD employment support organizations.

Using Field-Level Data To Address Profit And Yield Impacts Of Climate-Smart Production Practices: An Application To Soybean Production In Illinois, Sarah Sellars, Gary Schnitkey, Laura Gentry

This study investigates the effect of cover crops on soybean yield and profit in Illinois. The analysis utilizes a unique and precise field-level panel data set of farmer data combined with weather data for 2015 to 2022. Using a linear fixed effects econometric model, we estimate the effect of cover crops and tillage on yield and profit. We find no difference in yield and a decrease in profit of $40 per acre from using cover crops. No-till systems have a one bushel per acre lower yield than one pass tillage system, but we find no difference in profit.

When Authoritarianism Is Beneficial: The Curvilinear Relationship Between Authoritarian Leadership And Follower Extra-Role Behavior, Shu Ge, William Gardner, Elizabeth Karam, Zhen Yan

Although authoritarian leadership is often assumed counterproductive, it may benefit certain follower outcomes. Drawing on theories of authoritarian leadership and social exchange, we propose that moderate levels of authoritarian leadership can enhance follower extra-role behavior, particularly when authoritarian leaders also demonstrate benevolence and/or morality. Results from a three-wave survey of 84 leader-follower pairs across U.S. companies show both U-shaped curvilinear and linear relationships between authoritarian leadership and follower extra-role behavior. Trust in the leader mediated the linear relationship, while the leader's perceived benevolence and morality moderated the curvilinear one. We discuss theoretical and practical implications for authoritarian leadership.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate sleep disturbance and calculate its effect on long-term outcomes for people with whiplash associated disorder (WAD) following a motor vehicle collision (MVC). Methods: A secondary analysis of data for 97 people (females = 72) diagnosed with WAD was collected at 10%. Logistic regression was used to calculate significance and odds ratios (OR) for the variables of age, body mass index (BMI), sex, and sleep disturbance. Aim: The aim of our study was to explore the relationship between musculoskeletal problems and job satisfaction, quality of life and sleep in physiotherapists.

Method: Eighty-six actively working physiotherapists (63 female, 23 male) participated in our study. Sociodemographic Information Form, Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMSQ), Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale (MJSS), Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Short Form-36 Quality of Life Scale (SF-36) were delivered to the participants via Google Forms. Data were evaluated using SPSS-20.0 statistical program.

Purpose: The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) on pain and function in individuals presenting with pain associated with musculoskeletal dysfunction. A secondary purpose is to examine the effects of age on observed outcomes associated with using LLLT. Methods: The study protocol included 12 sessions of LLLT using a class 3-B laser device. Treatment dosage for the LLLT was determined according to recommendations published by the World Association for Photobiomodulation Therapy (WALT). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and perceptions of first-year DPT students related to professional behaviors and professional identity formation after an integrated clinical experience facilitated by peers. Methods: Forty-one first-year DPT students from an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program participated in a class assignment designed to collect qualitative data regarding their experiences with professional behaviors and professional identity formation after completing an integrated clinical experience.
