The Spatial Dynamics Of The Securities And Commodities Industry: An Analysis Of Growth Share For States And Msa Counties, 1977-1997, Darren Maher, Jay D. Gatrell
The Geographical Bulletin
This paper investigates the spatial dynamics and characteristics of the securities and commodities industry. The study investigates the observed geography of the securities and commodities industry sector at the metropolitan statistical area (MSA) county scale. The research provides a descriptive analysis of observed growth and identifies high-performing states and MSA counties. Additionally, we examine if the diffusion pattern of securities and commodities activities has followed the general spatial dynamics of the product cycle model at the state scale. At the MSA county scale, the paper considers whether the diffusion pattern of the industry is consistent with Scott’s (1988) OutwardDownward-Across model …

Right Heart Failure After Tricvalve Implantation For Symptomatic Torrential Tricuspid Regurgitation: A Case Report, King Sum Luk, Chun Kit Wong
Journal of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology
Patients with symptomatic torrential tricuspid regurgitation (TR) presenting with right heart failure are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. While medical therapy is often ineffective, the perioperitive risks of surgical correction are high. Transcatheter TricValve implantation is one of the evolving therapeutic options for this condition with many unanswered questions. We reported a case of life-threatening right heart failure after transcatheter TricValve implantation despite initial improvement. Important considerations of TricValve implantation are discussed. In particular, careful patient selection and evaluation with perioperative echocardiogram are of paramount importance.

Anomalous Left Coronary Artery From The Pulmonary Artery (Alcapa) Diagnosed In Adulthood: A Case Report, Lam Ck, Tam Wc, Mok Tm, Lam Up
Journal of the Hong Kong College of Cardiology
We present a rare case of Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery (ALCAPA) diagnosed in adulthood. ALCAPA is a rare congenital coronary anomaly characterized by the left coronary artery (LCA) arising from the pulmonary artery instead of the aorta. This anomaly leads to diminished oxygen supply to the left ventricular myocardium, resulting in myocardial ischemia and potential life-threatening complications. While ALCAPA is typically diagnosed in infancy or childhood, cases in adulthood are extremely rare. We discuss the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and surgical management of ALCAPA in adulthood, highlighting the typical findings in cardiac imaging and the underlying mechanisms.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent condition affecting the male urinary system, with its molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis remaining unclear. Y-27632, a non-isoform-selective Rho kinase inhibitor, has shown therapeutic potential in various diseases but its effects on static factors and fibrosis in BPH remain unexplored. This study investigated human prostate tissues, human prostate cell lines, and BPH rat model using immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and cell counting kit-8. ROCK1 and ROCK2 were significantly up-regulated in BPH tissues, correlating with clinical parameters. Y-27632 targeted the inhibition of ROCK1 & ROCK2 expression and inhibited …

We report the results of a comprehensive copy number variant (CNV) reanalysis of 9171 exome sequencing datasets from 5757 families affected by a rare disease (RD). The data reanalysed was extremely heterogeneous, having been generated using 28 different enrichment kits by 42 different research groups across Europe partnering in the Solve-RD project. Each research group had previously undertaken their own analysis of the data but failed to identify disease-causing variants. We applied three CNV calling algorithms to maximise sensitivity, and rare CNVs overlapping genes of interest, provided by four partner European Reference Networks, were taken forward for interpretation by clinical …

Abstract Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer among women worldwide. Non-coding RNAs play a fundamental role in regulating the expression of different genes. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to bind to mRNA and either induce its degradation or repress its translation. Also, miRNA can modulate the expression of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) through different mechanisms. This study aims to determine the role of miRNA-205-5p in breast cancer cell lines. miR-205-5p was bioinformatically predicted to interact with LRP6 mRNA and lncRNAs MALAT1, NEAT1, SNHG5, and SNHG16. Then, the levels of miR-205-5p and its target genes and lncRNAs in breast …

The U.S. Maternal Hair Index was designed by the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP) to increase total weight of lamb weaned per ewe lambing (TW). Producers are interested in adding gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) resistance to this breeding objective since parasitism causes substantial economic losses. The NSIP provides producers with estimated breeding values (EBV) for postweaning fecal egg count (PFEC), an indicator of GIN resistance. Our objective was to gauge the effects of including PFEC as another selection criterion and goal trait. Selection index theory was used to construct 11 indexes. …

Martial Spirits And Marital Rites: Assessing Rousseau's Critique Of Commerce's Devaluation Of The Military And The Family, Jacob A. Harvey
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation will investigate Rousseau’s critique of how commercial society devalues soldiers and families and the responses provided by defenders of commerce. I will examine Rousseau’s corpus to demonstrate how Rousseau viewed commerce as a threat to both the responsibilities that men in a political community must be willing to fight and die for their country, as commercial societies intensify the hedonistic risk-averse calculations within members of the community. I will also show how Rousseau’s concerns towards commerce extended to the family, inhibiting the joys that can come with being part of a family and inhibiting citizens' willingness to have …

The International Longshoremen’S Association Strike & Removing Public And Political Pressures From The Bargaining Table, Jilly Horowitz
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR) Blog
The International Longshoremen’s Association (“ILA”) is the labor union that represents dockworkers in ports along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico. The management counterpart to the ILA is the United States Maritime Alliance (“USMX”) which represents the various employers associated with the East and Gulf Coast ports. The most recent ILA-USMX master contract, or collective bargaining agreement, ran from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2024 (the “2018 Agreement”). As ILA workers prepared for a new contract, their two main concerns were securing pay increases and continuing assurances that human jobs would not be replaced by automation.

Indonesia has the largest coral population in the world, contributed as the world’s second largest ornamental corals exporter after Japan. Coral trade sparked the issues of habitat destruction, illegal trade, and coral health problems has prompted the government to banning of ornamental coral export. This study aims to find an empirical evidence does the policies mentioned above affect the condition of coral reefs in Indonesia. The author uses the Fixed-Effect Model on the Difference in Difference regression equation whose result show that export banning of ornamental corals does not significantly affect the condition of coral reefs in Indonesia.
