Variable Speed Limits For Expressway Maintenance Work Zones In Low-Carbon Context, Liu Xiu, Yang Xu, Tan Jingjing
Variable Speed Limits For Expressway Maintenance Work Zones In Low-Carbon Context, Liu Xiu, Yang Xu, Tan Jingjing
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
To address the decline in traffic efficiency and the increase in carbon emissions caused by lane closures in multi-lane expressway maintenance work zones, this study developed a multi-objective variable speed limit optimization model that integrates carbon emissions, traffic flow, and travel time to support low-carbon tr ansportation. A VISSIM-MOVES simulation platform and the NSGA -Ⅱ genetic algorithm were employed to optimize the speed limit scheme. Using the Suizhong section of the Beijing-Harbin Expressway as a case study, the results show that, compared with the fixed speed limit, the progressive variable speed limit scheme of 80 km/h‒ 80 km/h‒ 60 km/h …

Asphalt Pavement Roughness Prediction Model Based On Weighted Stacking Ensemble Learning, Wang Jiaqi, Tian Shun, Ren Youjun, Li Yingyi, Ren Feihong
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Pavement roughness is a key indicator for evaluating pavement performance, which directly affects ride comfort and maintenance decisions. Based on the Long-Term Pavement Performance Program (LTPP ) database in the United States, data from 202 asphalt roads in California, Florida, and Minnesota were extracted. Meanwhile, multidimensional features such as pavement structure, climate, traffic loads, and pavement distress were combined to predict the variation of the international roughness index (denoted as IIRI when it is taken as the indicator variable ). Six regression models, including XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, RandomForest, ExtraTrees, and NeuralNetTorch, were employed to address the issue of insufficient prediction …
Cmsi Translations #38: Furious Seas, Raging Waves: The Pla’S Development Of Sea-To-Shore Strike Capabilities, Tian Ying
CMSI Translations
At present, driven by anxiety and panic over China’s rising power and a desire to contain its peaceful development, U.S. political circles frequently provoke China on core interests related to Taiwan. They have even schemed to exploit “Taiwan Independence” elements to cross a red line regarding forced reunification. Such plots aim to “Ukrainize” Taiwan and drive the island to ruin, thereby raising the cost of reunification for China in order to weaken the country’s national strength and curb its development. Meanwhile, in recent months, “Taiwan Independence” forces on the island, emboldened by the backing of external powers, have acted with …

The U.S. Forest Monitor: Establishing A Historical Baseline For The Drivers And Climate Impacts Of Permanent Forest Loss, Christopher A. Williams, Natalia Hasler
Geography
This report introduces the U.S. Forest Monitor, a new system for tracking permanent forest conversion across the United States and reveals that forest loss is occurring at a significant and increasing scale. The burden of forest loss is unevenly distributed with 11 states representing 70% of all loss nationally. Forestland provides critical benefits including habitat and biodiversity, clean water and air, outdoor recreation, healthy soils, and climate regulation. Forests today face many threats, including fire, pest outbreaks and other stressors. Permanent deforestation, the focus of this report, involves the clearing of forests for another land use – like development and …

Astrophysical Radiative Capture Reaction Rates In Light Nuclei: A Review Of Results From The Modified Potential Cluster Model, S. B. Dubovichenko, B. M. Yeleusheva, A. S. Tkachenko, R. Ya. Kezerashvili
Publications and Research
A review of results obtained within a single theoretical framework—the Modified Potential Cluster Model (MPCM)—is presented for astrophysical radiative capture reactions involving the lightest and 1p-shell nuclei. The approach has been applied to reactions relevant to the r-process, the CNO and HCNO cycles, and parts of the Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) and post-BBN scenarios. The model incorporates the classification of orbital states according to Young’s diagrams and has been successfully applied to describe the available experimental data on the total cross sections of the radiative capture of neutrons, protons, and the lightest clusters by 40 light nuclei at astrophysical energies. …

The External Reach Of Eu Labour Law: Channels Of Influence And The Case Of Vietnam, Małgorzata Grześków
The External Reach Of Eu Labour Law: Channels Of Influence And The Case Of Vietnam, Małgorzata Grześków
Hasanuddin Law Review
This article examines how EU labour-law standards influence labour-related compliance beyond EU territory, despite the predominantly territorial character of public enforcement. It addresses the mismatch between the EU's state-centred enforcement framework and the transnational organisation of production, in which labour risks frequently arise in third-country supply chains. The aim of the article is to conceptualise ``external reach'' and to assess the main channels through which EU labour-related expectations operate outside the Union. Methodologically, the article combines doctrinal analysis with conceptual clarification and applies this framework to the case of Vietnam. It identifies three principal channels of external reach: labour provisions …

Beyond Ai-Proofing: Rethinking What Counts As Evidence Of Learning, Breana Bayraktar
Beyond Ai-Proofing: Rethinking What Counts As Evidence Of Learning, Breana Bayraktar
The Interdisciplinary Journal for Research on Pedagogy and Learning Design, Vol. 1, Issue 1., Fall 2026
Generative artificial intelligence complicates a longstanding assumption in higher education assessment: that the quality of a finished artifact provides sufficient evidence of learning. This article reframes the challenge posed by generative AI as a problem of assessment validity: what observable evidence warrants claims about what students know, understand, and can do? Drawing on construct validity, learning theory, assessment-for-learning, and evaluative judgment scholarship, the article proposes an AI-Responsive Assessment Framework for broadening the evidentiary basis of assessment. Four interlocking principles—judgment-centered tasks, process visibility, metacognitive transparency, and iterative human feedback—elicit complementary evidence of students’ intellectual activity alongside finished products. Rather than replacing …
Convergent Molecular Pathways And Shared Genetic Mechanisms In Classic Syndromic Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Narrative Review, Ryan Bourgaize, Aderonke Oyetunji, Merlin G. Butler
Convergent Molecular Pathways And Shared Genetic Mechanisms In Classic Syndromic Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Narrative Review, Ryan Bourgaize, Aderonke Oyetunji, Merlin G. Butler
Student Publications
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are defined as a group of neurodevelopmental disorders that share common core features including restrictive repetitive stereotypic behavioral patterns and interests affecting social communication. Over 1,200 genes have been associated with ASD and impacted by copy number variants, chromosomal, and/or single gene defects or epigenetics. Genetic factors contribute to most cases of autism. At least twelve classic genetic disorders with autism as a common feature were selected involving 31 causative or implicated genes with 30 recognized as ASD genes. These disorders were selected to represent a range of genetic abnormalities such as chromosomal deletions, duplications, or …
Trauma-Informed Education For Teachers As A Form Of Disaster Preparedness And Mitigation Across Cultural Contexts, Emma A. Aellen
Trauma-Informed Education For Teachers As A Form Of Disaster Preparedness And Mitigation Across Cultural Contexts, Emma A. Aellen
Master of Arts in Human Services
Natural disasters are ecological events that cause mass casualties and physical destruction. They are also psychological and cultural happenings which shape the lives of the affected people well beyond the immediate crisis. Emergency response systems have historically prioritized the needs for material relief, such as food, shelter, and infrastructure repair, but all while neglecting mental health support. This review draws on disaster psychology, education, and community resilience research, including cross-cultural, organizational, and institutional theory, intervention programs, and disaster mental health policy. Sources were analyzed thematically to build a multi-actor framework linking teachers, schools, and communities in post-disaster recovery. The review …
Child Survivors Of Intimate Partner Homicide, Pang Lee
Child Survivors Of Intimate Partner Homicide, Pang Lee
Master of Arts in Human Services
The purpose of this capstone paper was to educate and examine the impact of intimate partner homicide on child survivors, on traumatic losses that disrupt their emotional, social development, and educational well-being. Findings indicated that the mental health and long-term life trajectory for child survivors were varied by the developmental stage the child was affected, prior exposure to violence, placement stability, caregiver capacity, school advocacy, and access to specialized support services that were detrimental to children’s futures. Although coordinated family, school, and community-based care can promote stability, there is a lack of evidence limited by inconsistent identification of survivors and …

Beyond The Neocortex: Pallial Routes To The Edge Of Sentience, Oryan Zacks
Beyond The Neocortex: Pallial Routes To The Edge Of Sentience, Oryan Zacks
Animal Sentience
In The Edge of Sentience, the sentience candidacy of fishes and reptiles is strengthened if one accepts midbrain-centric theories of human consciousness. In this commentary I attempt to untether the two positions. I suggest that we need not look for a one-to-one match between the neocortex and a single pallial structure outside of mammals. Instead, a sufficient similarity might exist between the mammalian neocortex and the combination of pallium and midbrain in fishes and reptiles. Adopting an evolutionary perspective in the study of vertebrate brains could point to new investigation priorities in human and animal research.

Drone Photography: Balancing Privacy, Property And Legal Boundaries In Malaysia And Comparative Perspective, Manique Cooray, Wong Hua Siong, Ivy Chin Hann Wei
Hasanuddin Law Review
The rapid advancement and widespread accessibility of drone technology have significantly transformed aerial photography, enabling individuals and organisations to capture images and videos with ease and affordability. While drone photography offers benefits in journalism, mapping, disaster management, and commercial services, it also raises legal concerns relating to land ownership, airspace rights, trespass, nuisance, and privacy. In many jurisdictions, existing legal frameworks were developed prior to unmanned aerial vehicles and struggle to address the regulatory challenges posed by drones. This study examines the legal implications of drone photography from the perspective of land law and privacy protection, with reference to Malaysia …
Materiality In Saudi Real Estate Development Contracts: Comparative Jurisprudence And Cross-Border Disputes, Abdulrahman Mohammed Alzeer
Materiality In Saudi Real Estate Development Contracts: Comparative Jurisprudence And Cross-Border Disputes, Abdulrahman Mohammed Alzeer
Hasanuddin Law Review
The Saudi Civil Transactions Law (CTL) contains materiality-related standards that apply at different phases of the contract life cycle as separate doctrines rather than as an overarching doctrine. Article 74 uses a counterfactual analysis of partial invalidity and severability, while Articles 95 and 107 address the characteristics or purposes of contractual performance and the consequences of non-performance. The difficulty is not a conflict between Articles 74 and 107, but the absence of a unified analytical model for assessing the significance of non-performance under provisions on performance, interpretation, defect, and remedy. This article addresses these fragmented CTL elements and contends that …

From Classroom To Courtroom: Cross-Jurisdictional Legal Protections For Teachers In Student Disciplinary Cases, Sapto Budoyo, Nadea Lathifah Nugraheni, Praditya Arcy Pratama, Mahyuddin Bin Arsat
Hasanuddin Law Review
Legal protections for teachers in student disciplinary cases are increasingly urgent. This study investigates the legal protections afforded to teachers in managing student disciplinary cases in Indonesia and Malaysia, highlighting how legislative frameworks, sociocultural influences, and institutional mechanisms shape teachers' rights and responsibilities. Using a comparative legal approach, the research analyzes statutory provisions, policy directives, and educational practices in both jurisdictions. The comparison indicates that Malaysia offers a more institutionally structured framework by defining school-level disciplinary authority and separating authorized disciplinary measures from individual teacher discretion. This framework balances educator autonomy with student rights, although gaps remain in enforcement and …
Criminal And Administrative Liability For Money Laundering In Automated Digital Insurance Brokerage: An Oman-Centred Comparative Analysis, Omar Musbih, Ghazi Ayed Alghathian
Criminal And Administrative Liability For Money Laundering In Automated Digital Insurance Brokerage: An Oman-Centred Comparative Analysis, Omar Musbih, Ghazi Ayed Alghathian
Hasanuddin Law Review
The digital transformation of Gulf insurance intermediation creates difficulties applying anti-money laundering (AML) rules where customer assessment, transaction processing, and compliance decisions are materially automated. This study examines how Omani law allocates criminal and administrative responsibility for money laundering in automated digital insurance brokerage, using Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as functional comparators and the European Union (EU) as a supranational benchmark for preventive regulation and systems governance. A doctrinal-comparative methodology analyses AML legislation, penal provisions, electronic-insurance regulation, digital-governance instruments, and publicly accessible judicial and supervisory materials through a qualitative comparative matrix. Three interconnected gaps emerge: a …
