Assessing Female Breast Cancer Patients’ Intention To Attend Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program Via Telehealth/In-Person, Maxine Rose Duncan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Factors influencing female breast cancer patients' intentions to attend mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs, crucial for developing targeted interventions to enhance participation and improve outcomes, were examined in this study. Grounded in the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the influence of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on intentions was examined. The key research question focused on the relationship between these constructs and patients' intentions to attend MBSR sessions, either via telehealth or in-person sessions. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey design, data were collected via SurveyMonkey from a convenience sample of female breast cancer patients from the Gulf Coast …

Effective Strategies To Mitigate The Impact Of Cargo Shipment Abandonment, Ozoemenam Peter Peter Ohagwu Oct 2024

Effective Strategies To Mitigate The Impact Of Cargo Shipment Abandonment, Ozoemenam Peter Peter Ohagwu

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Business leaders in multiple U.S. exporters refuse to pay freight charges and abandon their cargo shipments, leaving shipping business leaders with monetary losses. Some small and medium-sized U.S.-based shippers lack effective strategies to address the risk of cargo shipment abandonments. Grounded in the theory of constraints, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry study was to explore the effective strategies used by small and medium-sized U.S.-based shippers to successfully mitigate the risk of cargo shipment abandonment. The participants included three U.S. shipping industry leaders from non-vessel-operating common carriers and three from vessel-operating common carriers, all with an average of 25 …

Thermal Vision Through Obscuring Weather: Advanced Segmentation And Regeneration Techniques For Enhancing Adas In Extreme Conditions, Mohammed Abuhussein

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This dissertation synthesizes a method based on studies focused on enhancing segmentation and inpainting of obscured regions within thermal imagery, specifically targeting cloud segmentation in Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) images. The research extensively evaluates various classical segmentation algorithms, including thresholding, edge-based, region-based, clustering, and texture analysis. We extensively studied the performance of these methods. The findings from this extensive study helped us decide where to take this research. The next research paper introduces a new approach to the tile-based segmentation of occlusion clouds using the Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM). This technique extracts features from local tiles to train a classifier, …

Despite the effectiveness of seismic stimulation in enhancing oil production from reservoirs, the impact of high-frequency vibrations on oil droplets confined within pore throats has not been adequately investigated. This laboratory-scale experimental study examines the impact of low and high-frequency sinusoidal vibrations in dislodging oil droplets trapped in a specific pore-throat region. Sinusoidal vibrations ranging from 10 to 80 Hz and with maximum displacement amplitudes of 1.2–0.06 mm are applied. By comparing the images captured prior to and after the application of seismic vibrations, the amount of oil recovered is determined. Commercial gasoline and diesel are used as trapped oil …

New Methods To Induce Selectivity In Electrochemical Reactions By Modifying The Electrode Surface, Enqi Feng Oct 2024

New Methods To Induce Selectivity In Electrochemical Reactions By Modifying The Electrode Surface, Enqi Feng

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Organic electrochemistry has proven to be an efficient and green method for synthesis. Although the reactions studied to date have been very successful, there is still much to explore including opportunities to introduce new modes for controlling the selectivity of the reactions. Normally, the selectivity of an electrolysis reaction is based on the redox potential of the substrates. The working potential of an electrode either automatically adjusts to the potential required or is manually set at that potential. This allows for the systematic oxidation or reduction of a series of substrates that have a broad range of oxidation or reduction …

Puerto Rico Imperatives To Enact Energy And Climate Justice, Ruth Santiago, Hilda Llorens, Catalina M. De Onis

Environmental Studies Faculty Publications

In the days and months following Hurricanes Irma’s and Maria’s landfall in Puerto Rico, photos and videos of the catastrophic impacts were broadcast throughout the world. These successive hurricanes in September 2017 tore down the electric grid, many of the wires, poles, and towers, and flooded substations. The almost total lack of electric service for 3.2 million people sent shockwaves throughout the archipelago as outside observers watched, horrified by the collapse of almost all other critical services dependent on electricity. Disrupted services included water supply and treatment, medical services, education, communications, and economic and business transactions. The decimated centralized transmission …

Can Large-Language Models Help Us Better Understand And Teach The Development Of Energy-Efficient Software?, Ryan Hasler, Konstantin Laufer, George K. Thiruvathukal, Huiyun Peng, Kyle Robinson, Kirsten Davis, Yung-Hisang Lu, James C. Davis

Computer Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Computing systems are consuming an increasing and unsustainable fraction of society's energy footprint, notably in data centers. Meanwhile, energy-efficient software engineering techniques are often absent from undergraduate curricula. We propose to develop a learning module for energy-efficient software, suitable for incorporation into an undergraduate software engineering class. There is one major problem with such an endeavor: undergraduate curricula have limited space for mastering energy-related systems programming aspects. To address this problem, we propose to leverage the domain expertise afforded by large language models (LLMs). In our preliminary studies, we observe that LLMs can generate energy-efficient variations of basic linear algebra …

Command And Control Mechanisms For Post-Exploitation, Connor Hummel Oct 2024

Command And Control Mechanisms For Post-Exploitation, Connor Hummel

LSU Master's Theses

The client-server model forms a core part of any existing network infrastructure. This interdependence between multiple client-server information systems means more vulnerabilities are open to exploitation. Once attackers gain control of an existing server, they can explore the vulnerabilities of a server system. To provide a more effective manner of defending against this type of persistent attack, this thesis aims to provide core information for understanding how post-exploitation of client-server systems works and an example attack scenario of a compromised system's behavior.

In this thesis, we identify several mechanisms used to control the attack flow and evade detection in the …
