On Fractional Dunkl-Type Laplacian, Saba Ibrahim Aldan
On Fractional Dunkl-Type Laplacian, Saba Ibrahim Aldan
Theses
This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the fractional Dunkl-type Laplacian operator (−∥x∥ Δ)σ for 0<σ<1, through four equivalent key characterizations: the heat semigroup characterization, the pointwise characterization, the spherical mean characterization, and through an extension theorem. These characterizations offer different perspectives on the operator ∥x∥Δ, generalizing known results for the Euclidean Laplace operator by incorporating reflection symmetries, making it highly relevant in the harmonic analysis of root systems.
By exploring these characterizations, the thesis highlights the deep connections between the fractional operator (−∥x∥Δ)σ and harmonic analysis, as well as its broader applicability in mathematical physics and partial differential equations.

Food Neophobia, Food Pickiness, And Physical Growth Status In A Sample Of Emirati Children With Neurodevelopmental Disorders And Neurotypical Development In The United Arab Emirates, Hessa Salem Al Derei
Theses
Eating habits and expression of independence in food selection typically starts at about 18 months of age, reaching its peak between 2 and 6 years. However, child feeding problems are common in boys and girls, both- in children with neuro-typical development (NTD) and those with neuro-development disorders (NDDs). Food Neophobia (FN) and Food Pickiness (FP) are considered as the main forms of food rejection in children, affecting their diet variety, and consumption of foods. If unresolved, these may result in nutrient deficiencies and compromised growth and development in children. There is a dearth of evidence on this important topic in …

If we were to take the launch of MTV as the beginning of what we know as music video, we could affirm that the dialogue between this medium and the fantasy genre has been a constant to this day.
The first and most evident case of this synergy was found in 1983 with an experiment driven by CBS to demonstrate the commercial impact of music videos on record sales. In Billy Jean (Barron, 1983) and Thriller (Landis, 1983), fantasy narrative is presented from two different approaches.
Michael Jackson stars in both music videos. The first one provides a social critique …

G protein-coupled receptors transduce extracellular stimuli into intracellular signaling. Ca2+ is a well-known second messenger that can be induced by G protein-coupled receptor activation through the primary canonical pathways involving Gαq- and Gβγ-mediated activation of phospholipase C-β (PLCβ). While some Gs-coupled receptors are shown to trigger Ca2+ mobilization, underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we evaluated whether Gs-coupled receptors including the β2-adrenergic receptor (β2AR) and the prostaglandin EP2 and EP4 receptors (EP2R and EP4R) that are endogenously expressed in human embryonic kidney 293 …

The inclusion of citizens in social work education was initiated over 30 years ago and continues to travel a ‘long and winding road’. Social work education in the UK faces increasing pressure from a range of stakeholders including citizens who use services, regulatory bodies and the media to demonstrate that newly qualified social workers are competent and uphold public trust. While social work education and practice within England and Wales draw on similar traditions in theory and practice, there are important differences in the national and institutional frameworks within which they operate. This article illustrates some of these differences through …

On Spatiotemporal Trends In Meter-Scale Gris Surface Roughness And The Development Of An On-Ice Laser Distance Meter, Jamie C. Good
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
Surface roughness is a critical component of the energy and mass balance of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS). However, roughness is often oversimplified in predictive models due to its inherent scale dependency. Accurate quantification of roughness, including its recent changes and driving factors, is critically important for understanding and predicting GrIS surface dynamics. Using multi- and single-scale methods of roughness analysis, I assess spatiotemporal trends in GrIS meter-scale surface roughness from 2009 to 2019 with Operation IceBridge’s Airborne Topographic Mapper ILATM2 product. Additionally, with data from on-ice automated weather stations, I employ machine learning techniques to identify primary climatic controls …

Globally, winter temperatures are rising, and snowpack is shrinking or disappearing entirely. Despite previous research and published literature reviews, it remains unknown whether biomes across the globe will cross important thresholds in winter temperature and precipitation that will lead to significant ecological changes. Here, we combine the widely used Köppen–Geiger climate classification system with worst-case-scenario projected changes in global monthly temperature and precipitation to illustrate how multiple climatic zones across Earth may experience shifting winter conditions by the end of this century. We then examine how these shifts may affect ecosystems within corresponding biomes. Our analysis demonstrates potential widespread losses …

This Letter presents the result of a 3+1 sterile neutrino search using 10.7 yr of IceCube data. We analyze atmospheric muon neutrinos that traverse the Earth with energies ranging from 0.5 to 100 TeV, incorporating significant improvements in modeling neutrino flux and detector response compared to earlier studies. Notably, for the first time, we categorize data into starting and throughgoing events, distinguishing neutrino interactions with vertices inside or outside the instrumented volume, to improve energy resolution. The best-fit point for a 3+1 model is found to be at sin2(2𝜃24)=0.16 and Δ𝑚241 =3.5 eV2, which agrees with previous iterations of this …

Background: There is a need to understand the underlying biological mechanisms through which ultra-processed foods negatively affect health. Proteomics offers a valuable tool with which to examine different aspects of ultra-processed foods and their impact on health.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify protein biomarkers of usual ultra-processed food consumption and assess their relation to the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and all-cause mortality risk.
Methods: A total of 9361 participants from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities visit 3 (1993-1995) were included. Dietary intake was assessed using a 66-item food-frequency questionnaire and …

INTRODUCTION: Biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARD) are often discontinued when a patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is diagnosed with cancer. Our aim was to determine trends in bDMARD utilization in patients with RA and recently diagnosed cancer.
METHOD: We examined two national claims databases to identify adults with RA and recently diagnosed colorectal, lung, or prostate cancer (Optum's de-identified Clinformatics® Data Mart Database 2008-2022, and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) Medicare-linked 2008-2017). We determined time trends in bDMARD and tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) prescriptions during the first 3 years after cancer with Cochram-Armitage tests and multivariable logistic …
