The paper presents the results of an indirect personality assessment of U.S. vice president Kamala Harris, Democratic presidential nominee in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, from the conceptual perspective of personologist Theodore Millon.
Psychodiagnostically relevant data about Harris were collected from biographical sources and media reports and synthesized into a personality profile using the Millon Inventory of Diagnostic Criteria (MIDC), which yields 34 normal and maladaptive personality classifications congruent with DSM-III-R, DSM-IV, and DSM-5-TR.
The personality profile yielded by the MIDC was analyzed in accordance with interpretive guidelines provided in the MIDC and Millon Index of Personality …

Integrating Gis And Ca-Markov Model To Study Urban Dynamics Of Salem, India In Terms Of Pattern, Intensity And Direction, Linda Theres B
Theses and Dissertations
Urban populations have grown substantially in the modern era and the information age as people seek better living prospects. Currently, more than half of the world's population resides in the cities. Such growth must be monitored to ensure that people enjoy the boons of urban spaces, not the banes. Recognising the significance of urban studies, several researchers have attempted to analyse and predict urban dynamics using remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems, and machine learning methods. However, certain limitations exist, especially in improving the CAMarkov model's prediction performance. In addition, studies have suggested that growth characteristics, such as pattern, intensity, and …

BACKGROUND: Although the position of a pediatric cardiology chief is often seen as the apex of one's academic career, its roles, responsibilities, and qualifications are not well defined in the literature. This study was done to gain further insight of the role and attributes of a pediatric cardiology chief by surveying those who are currently serving the position across North American centers.
METHODS AND RESULTS: This was a mixed-methods study with a survey given to North American pediatric cardiology chiefs at programs with fellowship training programs. The survey was a semistructured questionnaire that was independently reviewed by 3 cardiologists. Smaller …

Systems and methods for processing a service request within a network environment can include a first cluster of fog nodes that execute service tasks. The cluster can include a primary fog node and nearest neighbor fog nodes. The primary fog node can receive, from the network, a service request, determine service request resource data that includes a first time, quantity of resource blocks required to serve the request, and a hold time required to serve the request locally. An edge controller, connected to the network and the first cluster, can receive, from the primary fog node, the service request resource …

Environmental Drivers Of The Divergence Of Harveyi Clade Pathogens With Distinctive Virulence Gene Profiles, Andrei L. Barkovskii, Cameron Brown
Faculty and Staff Works
Fish and shellfish pathogens of the Harveyi clade of the Vibrio genus cause significant losses to aquaculture yields and profits, with some of them also causing infections in humans. The present study aimed to evaluate the presence of Harveyi clade fish and shellfish pathogens and their possible diversification in response to environmental drivers in southeastern USA waters. The presence and abundance of potential pathogens were evaluated via the detection and quantitation of six Harveyi-clade-specific virulence genes (toxR, luxR, srp, vhh, vhh, and vhp; VGs) in environmental DNA with clade-specific primers. The environmental DNA was obtained from water and sediments collected …

Clock Hijackers: How Integration Of Glioblastoma Into Circadian Circuits Regulates Tumor Progression And Sensitivity To Current Therapies, Maria Felicita Gonzalez
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in adults with a poor prognosis despite aggressive therapy. A recent, retrospective clinical study found that administering chemotherapy with Temozolomide (TMZ) in the morning increased patient overall survival by 6 months compared to evening. Previous work has shown that murine and human models of GBM have cell-intrinsic circadian rhythms in expression of the core clock genes Bmal1 and Per2 in vitro. This suggests that GBM has circadian rhythms that entrain to the hosts’ central clock. Understanding the mechanisms underlying circadian entrainment and tumor growth in GBM is essential to determine whether …

Adr In The Digital Age: How Online Platforms Are Better Suited To Resolve Disputes Than Traditional Forums, Matthew Zelman
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR) Blog
Since Covid-19 remote work has been increasing astronomically in the US. According to a Gallup poll, even now that Covid-19 is in the past, approximately 27% of workers are fully remote, 53% hybrid, and 21% fully on site. While there are significant benefits to working from home, there are detriments including losing key relationships with coworkers. As people could not physically see their coworkers in person and grow and learn from each other’s body language and personal observations, they started losing respect for each other. This led to an increase in conflicts amongst remote workers with one survey finding that …

Gerontology Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity
This dissertation investigates the growing housing availability and affordability challenges facing older adults in Kansas City, Missouri. Using the capability approach and the rational comprehensive model as theoretical frameworks, the study analyzes the current state of housing and proposes improvements to address availability and affordability concerns for older adults. A qualitative research design was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with 15 participants, including public officials, experts, and community members. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview transcripts, identifying recurring patterns and themes related to the participants' perspectives on housing concepts, policies, and recommendations for improvement. The analysis revealed four key …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research
Wildfires are increasing in risk and prevalence. The most destructive wildfires in decades in Australia occurred in 2019–2020. However, there is still a challenge in developing effective models to understand the likelihood of wildfire spread (susceptibility) and pre-fire vegetation conditions. The recent launch of NASA's ECOSTRESS presents an opportunity to monitor fire dynamics with a high resolution of 70 m by measuring ecosystem stress and drought conditions preceding wildfires. We incorporated ECOSTRESS data, vegetation indices, rainfall, and topographic data as independent variables and fire events as dependent variables into machine learning algorithms applied to the historic Australian wildfires of 2019–2020. …

Quantifying transport by strongly stratified turbulence in low Prandtl number ( $Pr$ ) fluids is critically important for the development of better models for the structure and evolution of stellar and planetary interiors. Motivated by recent numerical simulations showing strongly anisotropic flows suggestive of a scale-separated dynamics, we perform a multiscale asymptotic analysis of the governing equations. We find that, in all cases, the resulting slow–fast systems take a quasilinear form. Our analysis also reveals the existence of several distinct dynamical regimes depending on the emergent buoyancy Reynolds and Péclet numbers, $Re_b = \alpha ^2 Re$ and $Pe_b = Pr …

Reducing Carbon Footprint In Ai: A Framework For Sustainable Training Of Large Language Models, Sunbal Iftikhar, Steven Davy
Conference papers
In the world of artificial intelligence (AI), large language models (LLMs) are leading the way, transforming how people understand and use language. These models have significantly impacted various domains, from natural language processing (NLP) to content generation, sparking a wave of innovation and exploration. However, this rapid progress brings to light the environmental implications of LLMs, particularly the significant energy consumption and carbon emissions during their training and operational phases. This requires a shift towards more energy-efficient practices in training and deploying LLMs, balancing AI innovation with environmental responsibility. This paper emphasizes the need for improving the energy efficiency of …

Attempting To Answer The Question Of Animal Awareness, Alexandra Horowitz
Animal Sentience
It was as a graduate student that I first encountered the work of both Donald Griffin and Carolyn Ristau. Griffin's The Question of Animal Awareness (1976) and Animal Minds (2001) helped a budding animal-minds researcher appreciate both the possibilities of studying non-human animal consciousness and the struggle that such an undertaking would face. Now Ristau's (2024a,b) timely biography helps explain how Griffin became the figure in animal cognition that he is.
