BACKGROUND: Community-dwelling adults are at risk for adverse drug events such as falls, hospitalizations, cognitive decline, drug-to-drug interactions, and mortality related to high-risk medication use and polypharmacy, often defined as concurrent use of five or more different medications. Lack of provider knowledge of polypharmacy and high-risk medication use as well as suboptimal communication with primary care providers can lead to gaps in medication management in this vulnerable population.

Recent evidence suggests that the immune system may be upregulated in anticipation of pathogen exposure, yet the neural mechanisms that respond to and signal impending infection risk remain poorly understood. We investigated neural responses to infection risk in uninfected hosts observing infected conspecifics, using the canary (Serinus canaria domestica)—Mycoplasma gallisepticum host–parasite system. We focused on five brain regions of interest, comprising three nodes of the social decision-making network—preoptic area, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) and hippocampus—a stress modulatory region (paraventricular nucleus) and a visual processing region (nucleus rotundus). An Informationally Novel Sense Of Triviality For Harman’S Clutter Principle, Joseph D. Rasmussen

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Gilbert Harman (1986) argues that we ought not believe some logical consequences of our beliefs. To do this, he uses the Clutter Principle—that we should not clutter our minds with trivialities—and claims that some logical consequences are in some sense trivial. I show that interpreting Harman’s argument using an interest-driven sense of triviality (e.g. what Friedman calls junk) conflicts with a plausible epistemic norm. In light of this, epistemologists have turned the Clutter Principle into a norm on inquiry. This, however, loses the strength of the Clutter Principle in Harman’s argument. Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and opioid-associated overdoses continue to pose significant burden to US healthcare systems—both financially and in lives lost. It is imperative to identify risk factors which may predispose vulnerability to OUD development, which could aid in discovery of new therapeutic strategies for susceptible populations. This dissertation investigated the impacts of two such risk factors which modulate opioid-induced reward and behavioral effects: adolescent stress and the adulteration of illicit opioids by xylazine. This qualitative teacher research study examined the impact of incorporating AI-generated decodable texts that draw on students’ backgrounds on the literacy development of upper elementary Basic Skills students. The study was conducted over a ten-week period with three fourth-grade students receiving Basic Skills reading intervention. Ten personalized decodable texts were generated using the AI tool ChatGPT and were intentionally designed to align with students’ phonics needs while incorporating their identities, interests, and backgrounds. Data sources included teacher journal entries, student responses, exit slips, and pre- and post-assessments. This evaluation report summarizes findings from the North Dakota Perinatal Quality Collaborative’s AWHONN obstetric emergency training delivered to non-birthing and low-volume rural facilities across the state. Drawing on statewide needs-assessment data and post-training surveys (n=24), the report highlights significant improvements in provider confidence, team-based preparedness, and readiness to stabilize pregnant and postpartum patients prior to transfer. Participants were primarily nurses working in Critical Access Hospitals, and rated the training as highly relevant and emphasized the value of practical tools such as the First 10 Minutes checklist, hypertension and hemorrhage guides, and newborn stabilization resources. Improving Emergency Preparedness: Disaster Response Gap Executive Summary

Universities in Washington State have a responsibility to maintain both educational continuity and campus safety, particularly because of the region’s vulnerability to major earthquakes. Although many institutions maintain emergency preparedness plans, the accessibility and strategic placement of emergency resources remain critical concerns. At a private university in Seattle, Washington, the project team identified gaps in earthquake preparedness related to the accessibility, visibility, and availability of emergency supplies.

Securing interconnected software systems requires more than layering existing frameworks on top of each other. Most current Secure Software and System Development Lifecycle (S-SDLC) models treat security as a phase rather than a design condition, leaving real gaps in governance, access control, and automated enforcement that become critical failure points in Internet of Things (IoT) environments where devices are resource-constrained, long-lived, and frequently insecure by default.

Crime, Economic Forces And Trucks Crossings In The Us–Mexico Border Region, René Cabral, André Varella Mollick, Eduardo Saucedo

We investigate northbound loaded truck crossings from Mexico to the United States between 2015 and 2023. A weaker peso, exports and US industrial production positively affect loaded containers. Truck robberies at the municipal level show no statistically significant relationship with truck loadings, whereas truck robberies at the national and state levels present a negative, persistent association. Results suggest that Mexico–US trade would benefit from lower average Mexican crime rates. In addition to comparing Texas with other border states, this study documents the role of crime specific to the transportation sector as a negative relevant driver of truck crossings to the …
