Automatic Tool Selection To Reduce Large Language Model Latency, Derik Clive Robert, Ankur Garg, Jitesh Vinod Punjabi, Pavan Kumar Reddy M, Nihal Sandeep Balani, Rushin Shah

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models (LLMs) can interact with external tools to retrieve real-time information, make reservations, etc. While complete tool specifications for the external tools can be included in the prompt of an LLM, doing so increases context size and latency. This disclosure describes techniques that use small tool-selector models alongside large language models to select tools that are appropriate to the task specified in the prompt. The techniques preserve prompt space by ensuring that the LLM accesses the full specifications of a relevant tool only when necessary. The techniques enable an LLM to handle complex requests, such as multi-step tasks …

A Method For Remote System Management Using A "Last Will And Testament" Signaling Scheme, Hp Inc Nov 2024

A Method For Remote System Management Using A "Last Will And Testament" Signaling Scheme, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

In the event of a catastrophic failure of a remotely management client workstation, PC, or rack mount system, a hardware component will detect the anomaly and trigger an out-of-band (OOB) network broadcast to the management plane even if power is lost. The remote management hardware relies on a backup power source to ensure enough energy for a "Last Will and Testament" message to be broadcast to a subscriber on the network.

Automated Testing Of Distributed System, Vijay Griddaluru Nov 2024

Automated Testing Of Distributed System, Vijay Griddaluru

Defensive Publications Series

A service definition of each service of a distributed system is modified to include metadata indicating which method of the distributed system precedes a respective method. The service definition is further modified to include additional metadata indicating one or more fields of a test request schema of a respective service and a corresponding predefined value to be used in generating a test request message to request a test of the respective service (e.g., a request generation annotation). When a request is received to test the distributed system, a test request message is generated to initiate testing of a respective service …

Pathways Of Participation: Community Engagement And Collaborative Adaptation In Disaster Contexts Across Diverse Environments, Ria Mukerji Nov 2024

Pathways Of Participation: Community Engagement And Collaborative Adaptation In Disaster Contexts Across Diverse Environments, Ria Mukerji

Geography ETDs

This paper broadens the concept of effective community participation in disaster risk reduction by analyzing three case studies that emphasize unconventional, locally driven approaches. Using a multi-case study method, I examine forms of participation that challenge traditional top-down models and focus on local knowledge and community agency. In Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico, a co-designed environmental data dashboard with Pueblo members demonstrates how integrating Indigenous knowledge can enhance disaster preparedness. The Soldados Dam case in Ecuador shows how power imbalances drive community stakeholders to become protestors, emphasizing the need for adaptive engagement to prevent conflict. In Pajaro, California, a marginalized community’s …

Demonstrating Awareness On The Impact Of Vapes In Society, Jean Carlos Cortez-Rivera, Kianie Cruz Rosado, Andrea De Jesús Navia, Kenneth Hartú Rodríguez, Dayrimar Marchena Santiago

College of Pharmacy Student Research

Vaping, initially marketed as a smoking cessation tool, has become a public health concern due to its widespread use, particularly among youth. Despite claims of harm reduction compared to traditional cigarettes, vaping products pose significant health risks. These include respiratory issues, cardiovascular complications, and neurological impacts, largely driven by nicotine addiction and exposure to toxic substances. Vaping's appeal, fueled by extensive advertising and enticing e-liquid flavors, has led to an epidemic among adolescents, with notable social and economic consequences. Additionally, the improper disposal of vaping devices poses environmental hazards, contributing to pollution and carbon emissions. While advocates argue that vaping …

Lecture Capture, Transcripts, And Captioning In Us Colleges Of Osteopathic Medicine: Descriptive Cross-Sectional Survey, Phillip Khong, Duncan Holmes, Bahar Masoudian, Gregg C. Lund, Steve Garwood

Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Departmental Research

This study describes lecture capture, transcription, and captioning services at US Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (COMs). An anonymous online survey was sent to Deans or Directors of Curriculum at all 34 fully accredited COMs, with 21 (62%) responding. Results showed widespread lecture recording (95%), but of those, there were varied transcript and caption offerings: 7 (33%) provided both, 5 (24%) offered closed captions only, and 3 (14%) offered transcripts only. Overall, 71% offered at least one service. These findings indicate the prevalence of these lecture services at US COMs and will assist COMs in benchmarking their practices.

Landform Lessons: Applying Terrestrial Geography To Mars Landing Site, Lindsey Herlehy Nov 2024

Landform Lessons: Applying Terrestrial Geography To Mars Landing Site, Lindsey Herlehy

Publications & Research

In this hands-on, STEM integrated workshop, educators will explore the fascinating parallels between Earth's landscapes and the Martian surface to enhance their understanding of planetary geography. Through a progressive series of activities, participants will compare environments and landforms on Earth and Mars, using actual data from spacecraft orbiting Mars to collect evidence and construct conclusions about these terrestrial planets. Then, applying this information, educators will construct multi-layer maps aimed at selecting the most advantageous landing site for a manned mission to the Red Planet. Finally, utilizing an online mapping application, participants will virtually explore their chosen landing site and examine …

Discovering Strategies To Lead Teams Abruptly Forced Into Virtual Environments Due To The Covid-19 Pandemic, Shonelle Maria Ramserran

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

COVID-19 was an unprecedented time in the global economy, causing a massive shift for many organizations conducting business. The speed at which organizations needed to implement World Health Organization’s restrictions and transition their teams from face-to-face to virtual environments was unpredictable. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore what leaders prepared for an organization to cope with situations like COVID-19 when abruptly moving employees from face-to-face to virtual environments. A conceptual framework based on the organizational change theory and the team adaptation theory was used to direct this study. The research question address what strategies leaders …

Nurses' Perceived Sense Of Self-Efficacy And Communication In Domestic Violence Screening, Claudette Arlene Richardson Nov 2024

Nurses' Perceived Sense Of Self-Efficacy And Communication In Domestic Violence Screening, Claudette Arlene Richardson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Nurses working in health care settings, especially nurses working in emergency rooms and urgent care settings, play a crucial role in the identification, prevention, and management of domestic violence. However, nurses with lower self-efficacy relative to communication about this role may face increased challenges in job performance. Grounded in Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, the goal of this quantitative study utilizing a survey design was to investigate the relationships between nurse education and training and their perceived sense of self-efficacy in screening for domestic violence. Participants included a convenience sample of 86 registered nurses aged 18 and above holding state licenses. …
