Copyright and AI need not be a copyright no man’s land. Recent decisions by the Copyright Office have gotten so much media attention that many creators are unsure if they can secure copyright protection if they use AI as a creative tool. The proposed creative control paradigm can help us all tackle the challenge of determining when works created with the assistance of AI are copyrightable. Instead of relying on long-established nuanced precedent for protecting works generated with new technology, the Copyright Office asserts that any content generated with assistance from AI tools is unprotectable. Skip the Grid is an interdisciplinary service-learning initiative that provides off-grid solar energy systems to households within the Navajo and Hopi Nations that lack access to electricity. In March 2026, students from five academic disciplines at California Polytechnic State University partnered with industry professionals and community organizations to complete the fifth annual installation trip. The project's purpose was to improve quality of life by providing reliable access to lighting, refrigeration, and small-scale electrical power in underserved communities where traditional grid expansion is extremely costly. Safety gloves are an essential part of field personnel's personal protective equipment (PPE). Gloves protect against cuts, burns, chemicals, and other hazards. Properly fitting gloves reduce the risk of injury by enabling the suitable use of task-specific protection. The 2026 Verifying Everyone’s Safety Together (V.E.S.T) Hackathon was hosted to identify ways in which gloves fit workers differently, and evaluated six different glove types, ranging from woven cut rated to firefighting gloves. The project emphasized structural concrete placement, field coordination, construction sequencing, and adaptation to regional construction practices. The construction industry faces mounting pressure to adopt more efficient building technologies. 3D-printed concrete (3DCP) has emerged as a promising alternative to wood-frame wall systems, offering reduced labor costs, shorter schedules, and lower long-term maintenance expenses. This study evaluates the economic feasibility of 3DCP versus traditional framing across three project scales — single-family (2K SF), multifamily (20K SF), and large development (100K SF) — using mixed-methods combining quantitative cost data with qualitative industry interviews. Results indicate 3DCP becomes cost-competitive at approximately 20,000 SF of wall area, with a decisive advantage at 100K+ SF ($26–$34/SF vs. $29–$45/SF traditional). This study examines the efficiency of permanent modular construction in the residential multifamily sector framed with steel in the western United States, with a particular focus on labor productivity, materials, project scheduling, and cost performance in California. Research was conducted through five interviews with production managers from U.S.-based modular manufacturing companies. Results indicated that modular construction improves labor, material, time, and cost efficiency. This paper details the construction of two cast-in-place concrete walls with attached footings, built to continue ongoing research into Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) retrofitting conducted by California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Architectural Engineering (ARCE) department. This study evaluates whether centralized Greek housing near Cal Poly could serve as a long-term planning solution for reducing neighborhood conflict, improving student housing opportunities, and creating a more organized environment for fraternity and sorority life. The research was developed in response to ongoing concerns in San Luis Obispo involving student housing pressure, fraternity activity in residential neighborhoods, and code enforcement challenges. Two surveys were used to gather stakeholder perspectives. One survey of Cal Poly students and one survey of individuals who work in San Luis Obispo. This dissertation examines the lived experiences of two Latino men who traversed the school-to-prison pipeline in the 1980s. The purpose of this study is to investigate how intersecting systems of racism, ableism, poverty, and exclusionary school practices shaped their educational trajectories and contributed to their incarceration. Three overarching research questions guide this inquiry: (1) What can be learned from the stories of two formerly incarcerated relatives that sheds light on how the school-to-prison pipeline is lived?
