The Overlooked Dynamics Of Sibling Violence: Sociological Perspectives And Intervention Strategies, Rowland Edet
The Overlooked Dynamics Of Sibling Violence: Sociological Perspectives And Intervention Strategies, Rowland Edet
Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications
Sibling violence (SV) represents a pervasive yet underexplored dimension of family violence, encompassing physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. This paper critically examines the intersection of gender dynamics, societal norms, and family structures in shaping SV behaviors. Using social learning theory (SLT) as a foundational framework, the analysis explores how gendered expectations and traditional roles influence the prevalence and forms of aggression, with boys more likely to exhibit overt physical aggression and girls engaging in relational aggression. The paper critiques the deterministic tendencies of SLT, highlighting the agency of individuals in rejecting modeled behaviors, and incorporates intersectionality to address the interplay …

Jurnal Hukum & Pembangunan

Jurnal Hukum & Pembangunan
Digital technology and modern telecommunications have been and will continue to be key factors in the emergence of various innovative products. One such innovative product is digital currency, specifically Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). In Indonesia, advancements in digital technology and telecommunications have encouraged the government to issue a CBDC, which will be named Digital Rupiah. The initiative to issue Digital Rupiah also responds to global trends and the public's need for secure, efficient, and sustainable payment instruments.
However, the plan to issue Digital Rupiah is not without challenges, particularly regarding the clarity of its legal status as a lawful …

Improving Load Capacity Of Steel Beams With Corrugated Webs Using Stiffening Plates, Aya Fouda, Mohamed Dabaon, Saad Eldeen Mostafa Abdrabou, Mohamed Ghannam
Mansoura Engineering Journal
In the last decades, Steel Beams with Corrugated Webs (SBCWs), especially those with trapezoidal profiles, are extensively employed in structural applications owing to their superior strength-to-weight ratio and improved structural stability under various loading conditions. While the behavior of SBCWs has been widely investigated, comparatively fewer studies have explored approaches aimed at improving their structural performance through strengthening techniques. This study presents numerical investigation into the capacity enhancement of SBCWs through the application of horizontal stiffeners and reinforcing plates. The numerical results were validated against existing experimental and computational data from previous research. The finite element method was employed to …
From Cradle To Congress: The Effect Of Birthplace On Legislative Decision-Making, Colin Emrich, Hillary Style, Ryan J. Vander Wielen
From Cradle To Congress: The Effect Of Birthplace On Legislative Decision-Making, Colin Emrich, Hillary Style, Ryan J. Vander Wielen
Political Science
The extent to which legislators pursue their privately held preferences in office has important implications for representative democracy and is exceedingly difficult to measure. Many models of legislative decision-making tacitly assume that members are willing and able to carry out the wishes of their constituents so as to maximize their reelection prospects and, in so doing, relegate their personal preferences. This project explores this assumption by examining the role that members' place of birth plays in shaping legislative behavior, apart from other politically relevant factors like partisanship. We find that birthplace exerts an independent influence on members' voting behavior. Using …

Testing Alternative Versions Of The Fama-French Five-Factor Model: Evidence From Chinese Non-Financial Firms, Su Zhang
Plymouth Business School Theses
This research investigates the applicability and effectiveness of the Fama-French model within the Chinese stock market. While the Fama-French model is extensively used in asset pricing, its performance in emerging markets like China remains insufficiently explored. The Chinese stock market is characterized by unique features such as the prevalence of state-owned enterprises, a high number of retail investors, market segmentation, government intervention. These elements may impact the traditional Fama-French model's explanatory power, necessitating modifications and adjustments. The thesis tests the Fama-French five-factor model's applicability in China's A-share market (2006–2023) by adding a risk (RISK) factor. Using monthly data, it constructs portfolios …
