Fascination By «The Other» And The Mirror We Look At Ourselves Lady Mary Montagu's Journey To The Ottoman Empire, María Jesús Horta

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Lady Mary Wortley Montagu traveled to the Ottoman Empire accompanying her husband, the English ambassador, and lived there between January 1717 and July 1718. She maintained a copious correspondence with her family and friends during her stay in Istanbul as well as during her journey, letters she later compiled and edited, and which were published under the title Embassy to Constantinople a year after her death. These letters constitute a truly important milestone for the travel literature of Europeans in the East because in them she left aside the stereotypes used until then, and tried to convey an objective and …

A Foreign Look Of A Strange Country, Fatiha Bennani

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This article discusses the importance of travel in shaping personality and the role of intellectual curiosity in this process. It highlights the significant contributions of travelers throughout history, such as Ibn Battuta, Marco Polo, Jacques Cartier, and Hassan Al Wazzan (also known as Jean Leon Africanus). The article also brings to light female travel literature, focusing on Edith Wharton’s work “In Morocco”. The author points out that Wharton wrote this book with a pedagogical and touristic intention, aiming to provide a guide for those wishing to visit Morocco. Finally, she defines herself as a pioneer, discovering mysterious and magical places.

Catherine De Bourboulon's Diary In China (1858-1862) Fracture Between East And West, Qingya Meng

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This article is dedicated to the journey of Catherine de Bourboulon (1827-1865) with her husband, a French diplomat, through northern China, Mongolia, and Russia, during which she wrote a journal that was published upon her return to France in 1866. This journal reflects both her compassion for the Chinese and Mongols living in miserable conditions and her admiration for the landscape of the Gobi Desert. However, her perspective also establishes a hierarchical relationship with the Other. In this regard, our approach aims to show how the concept of civilization justifies Catherine de Bourboulon’s stance, convinced of the superiority of Europeans …

Through their stories, it aims to highlight the significant contributions of these women to geographical exploration and world knowledge. From Egeria in the 4th century to the British explorers of the 19th century, these women defied conventions and ventured into the unknown. Despite the challenges and dangers, these brave women left an indelible mark on the history of exploration.

The Harem In Orientalist Art And Literature Between Fantasy And Authenticity, Fatima Zahra Ajjoul Jun 2026

The Harem In Orientalist Art And Literature Between Fantasy And Authenticity, Fatima Zahra Ajjoul

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

European travel to the Orient dates back to thousands of years, but fascination with the region flourished by the nineteenth century, the century of "harem literature" and Orientalist art par excellence. A number of developments made the trip to the Orient easier, safer and cheaper at the time. However, harem doors remained closed to male travellers who were left to imagine their own desirable details that mostly projected fantasies of exoticism, eroticism and despotism. Women travellers, on the other hand, took advantage of their gender-privileged access to the Oriental women's segregated spaces to shed light upon several obscured aspects of …

Multi-Agent Orchestration For Commercially Grounded Image Generation, Kirti Gurnaney Jun 2026

Multi-Agent Orchestration For Commercially Grounded Image Generation, Kirti Gurnaney

Defensive Publications Series

Generative artificial intelligence for image synthesis can face challenges in commercial applications, such as generating images with structural artifacts or recommending products that are not commercially available. The disclosed technology describes a multi-agent orchestration framework that may address these issues. The framework can coordinate a stylist agent, which handles aesthetic composition based on user intent, and a merchant agent, which can apply real-world constraints by validating product data, such as live inventory, against enterprise datastores. The system may also employ a hierarchical sequential compositing protocol to render images in a layer-by-layer sequence. This approach may produce an output that is …

Calculation Of Lra Force Factor Using Electrical Impedance Parameters, David Yu, Jianxun Wang, Vander Fang, Ozan Anac Jun 2026

Calculation Of Lra Force Factor Using Electrical Impedance Parameters, David Yu, Jianxun Wang, Vander Fang, Ozan Anac

Defensive Publications Series

Calibrating the force factor (BL) of linear resonant actuators (LRAs) in some production environments may present challenges, as certain laboratory instruments can be slow or costly for high-throughput quality control. A method is described to calculate BL by extracting key parameters from an LRA's electrical impedance curve. This approach can identify points such as resonant frequency, maximum impedance, and direct current resistance to determine the motional impedance (ΔZ) and mechanical Q factor (Qms), which can avoid some complex curve-fitting procedures. These values, along with a known moving mass (m), can then be used in a formula, for example …
