In this research, the author analyzes the 1936 eugenic sterilization trial surrounding Ann Cooper Hewitt, looking at the epistemic harms and wrong associated with the results and how those connect to modern day discourses of disinformation. It centers on the actions of two eugenicists involved, Ezra S. Gosney and Paul Popenoe. Richter argues that issues of epistemic responsibility in this eugenics case study reveal the ways in which this epistemic concept ties to disinformation and can further develop understandings of this emerging field.

Complexity Of Plant-Pollinator Networks Comprised Of Native And Non-Native Plants And Pollinators In Relation To Land Cover, Jacqueline Justo, Eliza Grames

Pollinators are vital to ecosystem function. This study observed how plant-pollinator networks comprised of native bumble bees (Bombus) and non-native honeybees (Apis) change with tree cover and on native versus non-native flora. At 40 sites, flower visitation by Bombus and Apis over 15-minute intervals were recorded. There was no significant difference in Bombus and Apis visitation to native or non-native flowers (χ2= 3.57, p=0.06). Bombus visited nine native and six non-native species, while Apis visited four native and five non-native. For every 1% increase in grassland, there was an increase of 1.04 bees (p <0.001). Plant-pollinator networks were more complex (# edges = 23) in open areas than forested areas (# edges = 6). Apis and Bombus shared eight flower species, three were only visited by Apis, and eight were only visited by Bombus. Monitoring native and non-native bees and their interactions can help us understand competition for floral resources.

Family acceptance and rejection of queer people has a significant impact on health outcomes, with queer individuals who experience rejection demonstrating higher rates of difficulties such as dysphoria and low self-esteem. However, dominant narratives of family acceptance and rejection often fail to recognize the many different social factors which influence how acceptance or rejection is understood within families, such as culture and religious affiliation. This qualitative study investigates how queer young adults conceptualize family acceptance and rejection as shaped by different contextual considerations. 21 participants aged 18-30 were interviewed using a semi-structured protocol. Wells’s influence on twentieth-century thought and politics has a darker side. Cocaine use, gambling behaviors, and concerns about negative body image are common among college students and may be interrelated. Previous research suggests a connection between cocaine use and gambling, but little is known about how these behaviors intersect with practices related to body image. This study explores the relationships between cocaine use, gambling behaviors, and body image issues. An anonymous online survey conducted through Google Forms received 878 responses, gathering self-reported data on cocaine use, gambling behaviors, and body image-related practices. Beyond his fame as a hip-hop artist, Tupac Shakur became a well-known political figure who sought to reduce gang violence, opposed police brutality, and advocated for self-defense—values that have been compared to those of the Black Panther Party. In 1992, Tupac established a set of “criminal” guidelines known as the “Code of Thug Life” to protect bystanders from needless engagement in gang disputes and bring more order in the streets while ensuring self-defense against opposing gangs or other threats. A common piece of American transphobic rhetoric holds the belief that transness is a “new” concept, or merely a trend of the 21st century. Yet publicly out trans figures, such as Christine Jorgensen, have been advocating for transgender rights since the 1950s––and, indeed, were treated shockingly well by the media. Fluid intelligence, crystalized intelligence, and relational memory are often tied to separate brain processes, but are also correlated with each other. The interaction between these effects, and how they are impacted by aging, has not been fully studied. This study examined interactions between fluid/crystallized intelligence and spatial relational memory for real vs. abstract stimuli. Relational memory was measured via a spatial reconstruction task, and correlated with standardized measures of fluid vs. crystallized intelligence. Spatial memory of abstract objects uniquely correlated with fluid intelligence, while spatial memory for concrete objects uniquely correlated with crystallized intelligence. Further research is needed on how lived experiences interact with policy changes. This paper explores how personal narratives highlight what quantitative data and policies might miss. A method of storing latent heat is using Phase Change Materials (PCM). However, current methods of creating PCMs are not mass-produced due to cost and material constraints. A pressure apparatus was designed to run at 10 atm to incorporate Flow-Focused Coaxial Continuous Casting to create Micro-Encapsulated Phase Change Materials. This poster first, includes simulations in ANSYS Static Structural to demonstrate the safety of the pressure design to ensure it meets the standard stated by ASME. Second, simulations were done in ANSYS Fluent to understand the flow through the nozzle of the pressure apparatus.

Lithium is a naturally occurring alkali metal present in the human body. Spirobenzopyrans Crowned Ether (SP-CE) is a sensor that can measure lithium ion fluorescence in living cells. As some sodium dependent membrane transporters are also able to accept lithium, SP-CE could be a potential route in testing their activity in cell-based studies. Chartism––a working-class reform movement in Britain active from 1836 to 1858––has long been treated by historians a male-dominated movement, with only marginal roles for women activists. More recently, scholarship by Matthew Roberts and Malcolm Chase has complicated this picture, showing how, though the People’s Charter rejected calls for female suffrage, women organized and helped promote Chartist ideals. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental illness that is often demonized or misrepresented in the books and films that portray it. By contrast, self-representations of BPD, such as memoirs, offer a more holistic depiction that can provide greater information and opportunities for empathetic response. This research explores key differences between self-representations of BPD and portrayals by those without the diagnosis, and asks why harmful stereotypes persist despite critiques from mental health advocates.
