The development of artificial structures using emerging 3D printing technology has been proposed as a possible strategy to promote the recovery of degraded coral reef ecosystems. Current technologies allow 3D printers to faithfully replicate the morphology of coral reef attributes (e.g., substrate and coral colonies). Thus, 3D printing can be used to create artificial structures that replicate microhabitats resembling those found by reef organisms in nature. The array of coupled optical waveguides, which is also viewed as a photonic lattice, can exhibit abundant photonic band structures depending on the desired spatial arrangements of involved waveguides. Studies of photonic lattices are usually performed in solid-state materials, where the required periodic susceptibilities can be achieved by employing the femtosecond laser direct-writing or optical induction method, and have spawned flourishing achievements in manipulating the behaviors of light. Binary borides are well known for their exceptional mechanical and thermal properties, including high strength, high melting points, outstanding hardness, and excellent chemical stability, making them suitable for high-temperature structural applications such as components in hypersonic vehicles, jet engines, nose cones, and the leading edges of aircraft. Despite these advantages, they are inherently brittle and suffer from low fracture toughness, limiting their ability to absorb impact or resist crack propagation.

This thesis explores how explainable and secure AI techniques can be integrated into modern human-computer interaction (HCI) systems to enhance trust, resilience, and alignment with human operators.

We present three related studies, each addressing a distinct challenge in the design of human-centered AI. Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere range in size from a few nanometers to a few millimeters, creating potential damage to vehicles traveling at hypersonic speeds; this problem has not yet been investigated with controlled laboratory techniques. This thesis investigates ice crystal impacts on high-speed flight vehicles and their aerodynamics by exploring a new method to combine ice crystal and shock wave experimental apparatuses to achieve experiments of observing ice crystals and shock waves interacting. Although a number of studies exist on cybercrime and its abuses, little is known about the pattern of cybercrime abuses individual Internet users experience in Nigeria, especially the south eastern region. Using data collected via various methods, this study examines the pattern of cybercrime abuses of individual Internet users in Umuahia, Abia State, of South Eastern Nigeria. Caffeine, a prevalent stimulant, has inconclusive effects on the gut-brain axis. Key probiotics such as Lactobacillus play a chief role in gut health and neurotransmitter production. These bacteria are able to effectively influence brain function and overall health. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of caffeine on Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactobacillus reuteri to determine antagonistic or synergistic effects on the bacteria’s gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production and synthesis of serotonin-related metabolites.

Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacterial pathogen which utilizes secretion of effector proteins which target host cellular processes, while evading the host immune system. Using the pUAST vector and the GAL4/UAS expression system, it is possible to enhance the expression of any select Chlamydia protein effector. We took steps to purify one of these effectors, CTL0398, through PCR amplification, Gel Electrophoresis, and Colony PCR. These procedures were done with the hopes of future studies uncovering the true function of the select effector, and if there is any manifested phenotypic change in drosophila.

Through this initiative, I have developed and distributed 50 educational brochures to inform patients about the significance of these screenings in identifying cardiovascular risks early and taking preventive measures to avoid more serious health complications.

The purpose of my project, Evaluating the Effectiveness of Fish Oil Supplements at Reducing the Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation, was to analyze whether omega-3 fatty acids could lower the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence compared to a placebo. AF is an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm that can lead to serious complications such as stroke or heart failure. Through review and analysis of clinical trial data, patients who took fish oil experienced a lower recurrence rate of AF (46.8%) compared to the placebo group (73.4%), though the difference was not statistically significant. During Fall 2025, I completed 40 hours of virtual service with the USDA Horticulture Center in South Florida. My volunteer work involved simple but essential support tasks, including organizing digital files, entering basic data into spreadsheets, sorting and labeling plant-related photos, and helping prepare materials for outreach activities. Even though the tasks were basic, they directly supported the Center’s research, data organization, and community education programs. This project highlights how small, consistent contributions improve workflow efficiency in agricultural research and help strengthen public outreach efforts.
