The aim of this literature review is to understand the relation between the Cognitive Dissonance Theory and investor decision-making. Under the Investor Rationality Theory, investors are perceived to act in their best interest financially after gathering all available information on their investment. Behavioral Finance on the other hand is the study of psychological biases and emotions and how they influence investors, causing them to act rather irrationally and consequentially creating an irrational market.

In 2025, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will deliver an advisory opinion on the legal obligations of nations with respect to the mounting damage caused by climate change. This ruling will definitively restate applicable international law, provide a basis for new global policy decisions within the U.N. General Assembly, and provide a predicate for new lawsuits in national courts. To be effective, remedies for breaching a government's duties to avert climate change will require a “collective remedy,” not merely financial compensation. Drawing from the jurisdictions covered in the Sabin Center's United States (U.S.) and Global Climate Litigation databases, this report offers insights into key developments, emerging themes, evolving legal strategies, and the pulse of climate litigation in 2024. The report identifies eight major thematic areas of climate litigation, namely (i) climate change in international and regional courts and tribunals, (ii) constitutional and human rights cases, (iii) GHG emissions in EIAs, (iv) factoring climate impacts and obligations into government decision-making, (v) non-compliance with climate commitments, (vi) climate displacement, (vii) greenwashing and climate-washing cases, and (viii) nuisance and other claims against major emitters.

There is a considerable lack in efficacy for current chronic pain treatments. One therapy that has gained attention are cannabinoid-based medications. However, preclinical and clinical trials do not produce anti-nociceptive results consistently and occasionally produce pro-nociceptive results. Understanding this ambiguity between anti-nociceptive and pro-nociceptive effects is vital to cannabinoids’ future utilization. One symptom of chronic pain conditions is allodynia in which pain is perceived following non-painful stimuli. This may be due to non-nociceptive afferents activating nociceptive circuitry in an abnormal manner. Using the medicinal leech, Hirudo verbana, we have begun to elucidate mechanisms by which endocannabinoids strengthen non-nociceptive afferent synapses. …

University supervisors (USs) play a key role in providing feedback for preservice teachers (PSTs). Although artificial intelligence (AI)’s use in providing feedback in educational settings had been explored, its use for feedback for PSTs’ field experience remained unknown. The first case study herein explores PSTs’ perceptions of AI-assisted feedback for field experiences. Findings highlighted PSTs’ perceptions of AI as a catalyst for new idea generation. While AI provided a starting point, the ending output still needed to reflect PSTs’ personalities. The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) regulates diverse physiological processes for maintaining homeostasis, modulating functions ranging from fluid balance to sympathetic nervous system activity. Due to its integral connections with various autonomic and endocrine systems, the PVN significantly influences cardiovascular and renal function, notably in blood pressure homeostasis and the development and regulation of hypertension. The regulatory capacity of PVN is mediated through several signaling pathways, including those involving G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) and G- protein signaling. This study examines grading in higher education from two distinct perspectives: graduate students’ perceptions of a grading scheme that utilizes rubrics and self-assessment and instructors’ perceptions of academic freedom in grading. The first study examined graduate students’ perspectives on a grading scheme utilizing rubrics and self-assessment. Data from focus groups and journals revealed four main themes: the importance of clear expectations, enhanced synergy between rubrics and self-assessment when transparency increased, bias towards rubrics based on more exposure, and mixed feelings surrounding perceptions of self-assessment and its influence on learning. Cannabis use is highly prevalent among young adults in the United States, with many experiencing associated problems. Social anxiety has been identified as a significant risk factor for cannabis use and related consequences; however, it remains unclear whether cannabis facilitates or inhibits social engagement among socially anxious individuals. Solitary cannabis use is consistently linked to use-related problems, but the term “solitary use” may encompass distinct contexts—such as social preparatory use, use to aid sleep, or use while spending time alone. On October 7, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted preliminary approval to the largest, most transformative antitrust settlement in intercollegiate athletics history. Popularly known as the House Settlement (the “Settlement”), its terms remove National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) scholarship limits and provide $2.8 billion in retroactive name, image, and likeness (NIL) compensation to both current and former NCAA athletes. But more importantly, the Settlement allows schools to disburse up to $20 million annually to athletes as part of a historic, new revenue-sharing model—effectively abolishing NCAA amateurism. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) recently settled three antitrust lawsuits. With a significant payout, it hopes to put its antitrust worries behind it. In doing so, the NCAA seeks to follow in the footsteps of the National Football League (NFL), which has enjoyed thirty years of labor peace. But there is a big difference between these two situations. The NFL’s 1993 settlement in White v. National Football League was shielded from antitrust scrutiny by the nonstatutory labor exemption, which encourages collective bargaining activity. No such exemption protects the NCAA’s settlement. Allowing private parties in litigation to stack the deck in their favor through forum shopping is standard fare in the United States. But not everyone realizes that public legislators engage in a similar exercise when they stack the deck in one party’s favor through “jurisdiction-stripping” or “jurisdiction-channeling” provisions. Congress can strip federal courts of all or some of its jurisdiction, channel jurisdiction over a particular class of cases into one particular court, and even strip the U.S. Supreme Court of its appellate jurisdiction. Artificial intelligence (AI) companies are working to develop a new type of actor: “AI agents,” which we define as AI systems that can perform computer-based tasks as competently as human experts. Expert-level AI agents will likely create enormous economic value but also pose significant risks. Humans use computers to commit crimes, torts, and other violations of the law. As AI agents progress, therefore, they will be increasingly capable of performing actions that would be illegal if performed by humans. Federal law has mandated the use of outside auditors by public companies since 1934. For much of that time, the audit industry watched itself. It monitored audit quality and decided how to address auditor misconduct. In 2002, Congress created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (“PCAOB” or “Board”) to watch the auditors. The legislation designed a regulatory scheme that presumed audit performance could be improved through an open and cooperative relationship between the regulator and the regulated audit firm. This paper illustrates the processes and results of user acceptance and satisfaction tests for the voice-activated self-monitoring (VoiS) application conducted in the field. VoiS was designed and developed for individuals with diabetes (DM) and hypertension (HTN) to support their routine and convenient self-management using a smart speaker platform. VoiS is also accessible on users’ mobile devices to visualize user-generated data. A total of nine adults with DM and HTN participated and were asked to use the VoiS system at home for a week to identify its acceptability in real-world conditions.
