Examining The Psychometric Properties Of The Classroom Whiteness Scale (Claws) Through Rasch Partial Credit Analysis, Jaylene T. Patterson

This pilot study examines how whiteness manifests in K-12 classrooms by developing and evaluating the Classroom Whiteness Scale (ClaWS), an instrument designed to assess in-service teachers’ salience and engagement with whiteness-informed practices. ClaWS consists of 21 items across two subscales: one measuring the salience of whiteness-related beliefs in teachers’ pedagogical decisions and the other capturing the frequency of these practices in classroom settings. Rooted in critical whiteness studies, the scale operationalizes key dimensions of whiteness, including ethnocentric monoculturalism, white standardization, white silence, right to comfort, white saviorism, and colorblind racial ideology.

Amid widespread acknowledgment that we live on a planet in peril, the term “ecocide” packs a powerful rhetorical punch. Extant regulatory approaches to environmental protection feel insufficient in the face of the triple threat of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. International criminal prosecution for ecocide, by contrast, promises to meet the moment, and a recent proposal to introduce ecocide into the canon of core international crimes is gaining traction. This article uses an innovative metaphor—the palimpsest—and a provocative philosophical tradition—genealogy—to generate a new theory of critical constitutional law. It is a theory born from this unique moment in time.

Originalism is now ascendant at the Supreme Court. Its search for essential origins in history as a method for grounding extant constitutional values was used in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to end recognition of the fundamental right to abortion. The Court’s conservative majority has made clear that Dobbs is only the beginning.

Self-represented inventors are far less likely to obtain patents than those with legal representation. Increasing access to artificial intelligence (AI) can mitigate some of the disadvantages of self-representation, but the use of AI will also raise new challenges. Local governments increasingly rely on unarmed, nonpolice experts to provide public safety services. In response to demands to reduce police violence, many municipalities have empowered paramedics, mental health counselors, social workers, and homeless outreach personnel, to triage health and safety issues without police involvement. Pilot programs reallocating police funds to these alternate responders appear to reduce arrest rates and rates of police violence. But they have not eliminated acts of violence committed by these nonpolice actors themselves. This Article offers the first systematic analysis of the administrative impact and practical consequences of the U.S. Supreme Court's filing requirements. The lack of meaningful research on this subject reveals how Justices, clerks, and lawyers have become inured to these requirements and their attendant costs.

Every year, the Supreme Court receives approximately five thousand petitions for certiorari. With some exceptions, the Court compels litigants to file multiple paper copies of their submissions. When combined, these submissions exceed two hundred thousand documents, which include over five million separate pieces of paper. If stacked, these documents would reach beyond the height of …

This Article provides the first comprehensive empirical account of Operation Lone Star (OLS), Texas Governor Abbott’s immigration enforcement initiative at the southern border. Though OLS consists of several components, including border wall construction and the busing of migrants to “blue” states, the machinery of OLS is primarily designed to apprehend recent migrants and prosecute them for violations of Texas state criminal law. General aviation is defined as all civil aviation operations other than scheduled air services and non-scheduled air transport operations for remuneration or hire (ICAO, 2009). Chronic stress is related to a decline in immune function in all living organisms and is known to increase the likelihood of developing or exacerbating chronic non-infectious diseases. However, the role of chronic stress in affecting outcomes of infection important to individual health and endpoints important for epidemic dynamics (e.g., likelihood of transmission) are not well understood. In this study we exposed canaries (Serinus canaria) to chronic stress or control conditions after which they were inoculated with Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, a bacterium that causes respiratory disease in birds.

Experiencing a sexual assault often results in lasting psychological trauma that inhibits the person’s ability to function (CDC, 2022), so coping strategies are needed to reduce those symptoms. For instance, after listening to traumatic stories, people experience significant increases in subjective distress (Bynion et al., 2023). And laboratory studies demonstrate that calming music reduces subjective distress (Judd, 2020; Ophir & Jacoby, 2020). On the other hand, calming music appears to interfere with memory and processing (Rickard et al., 2012). Beyond Involuntary Movements: A Case Of Diabetic Striatopathy Complicated By Cardiac Arrest, Deepa M

Abstract

Diabetic striatopathy (DS) is a rare neurological manifestation of poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, typically characterized by hemichorea–hemiballismus and distinctive basal ganglia abnormalities on neuroimaging. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus who presented with generalized choreiform and ballistic movements and subsequently developed an in-hospital cardiac arrest. Diagnostic evaluation revealed uncontrolled hyperglycemia (random blood glucose 243 mg/dL; HbA1c 8.3%) without ketosis, with neuroimaging findings consistent with DS. The patient was initially managed in the casualty department and subsequently admitted to a neuro stepdown intensive care unit, where she remained for 10 days. Comprehensive medical, …
