The co-editors of the Journal of the Arts and Special Education (JASE) provide a brief history and overview of recent accomplishments of the journal and describe priorities for the future. These priorities include regular publication cycles, special issues, expanded article types, engagement opportunities, and a recommitment to accessibility. Eggplant Variety Demonstration Results For West-Central Indiana, 2024, Petrus Langenhoven, Lizeth Sofia Catucuamba Tuquerrez

A non-replicated demonstration of eggplant varieties was conducted at Purdue University's Meigs Horticulture Facility to evaluate eight varieties, including four Italian-type and four Asian-type varieties, under Indiana growing conditions. Plants were transplanted on May 14, 2024, with 30 plants per variety in 180-foot rows. Weekly harvests occurred from weeks 8 to 18 after transplanting. Italian varieties consistently produced higher marketable yields than Asian types, with Nigral achieving the highest yield at 55,446 pounds per acre (17.7 fruits per plant, averaging 11.2 ounces per fruit). Rolandia produced the heaviest individual fruits, with an average weight of 12.3 ounces. Among Asian varieties, …

Colored sweet bell-shaped and tapered peppers remain an important summer crop for small and medium-sized farming operations across Indiana. These crops can be produced in open-field systems or under protective structures, with high tunnels offering notable advantages for sweet pepper production. The moderated environment of a high tunnel allows planting 2–4 weeks earlier in the spring and extends harvest into the fall until the first hard freeze. Despite the crop’s regional importance, performance data for pepper varieties adapted to Indiana conditions have been limited. Our ongoing work aims to address this gap. An eggplant cultivar demonstration at Purdue University's Meigs Horticulture Facility evaluated ten cultivars during the 2025 growing season to support evidence-based variety selection for Indiana growers. Eggplant production in Indiana totaled 34 acres in 2022, representing part of a national industry where 88.9% of 7,261 operations cultivate less than one acre. This demonstration provided performance data under Indiana conditions while offering hands-on learning for horticulture students. Results inform cultivar recommendations for small to medium-scale Midwest producers supplying diverse markets, including restaurants, farmers' markets, and ethnic food retailers seeking this Solanaceae crop for Asian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern cuisines.

In the era of generative AI, integrating video generation models into robotics opens new possibilities for the general-purpose robot agent. This letter introduces imitation learning with latent video planning (VILP). We propose a latent video diffusion model to generate predictive robot videos that adhere to temporal consistency to a good degree. Our method is able to generate highly time-aligned videos from multiple views, which is crucial for robot policy learning. Our video generation model is highly time-efficient. The beginning years of a new teacher are a critical period. This study investigated perceptions of induction activities of new teachers in Ohio Independent STEM schools. STEM-based pedagogies such as problem-based learning and inquiry are core strategies in STEM schools but can be new for beginning teachers. Through a Q-sort, thirteen participants from three Independent STEM Schools ranked statements on a +5 to -5 scale of agreement. This along with a post-sort survey resulted in themes. Positive school culture and colleague collaboration and the impact of the mentoring were found to be the most impactful. This research aligns with literature …

UniT is an approach to tactile representation learning, using VQGAN to learn a compact latent space and serve as the tactile representation. It uses tactile images obtained from a single simple object to train the representation with generalizability. This tactile representation can be zero-shot transferred to various downstream tasks, including perception tasks and manipulation policy learning. Our benchmarkings on in-hand 3D pose and 6D pose estimation tasks and a tactile classification task show that UniT outperforms existing visual and tactile representation learning methods. Indiana ranked fifth in watermelon production in the United States. In 2024, Indiana growers planted approximately 8,100 acres of watermelons. Watermelon cultivar evaluation trials have been conducted annually at the Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center (SWPAC) in Vincennes, IN, for over 30 years. In 2025, 25 standard-sized seedless watermelons were evaluated, and yield and fruit quality parameters were assessed.

To reduce the direct global warming impact of refrigerants in HVAC&R applications, low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, including natural refrigerants, have been extensively investigated as alternatives to hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants. Among the natural refrigerants, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) offers several advantages, such as excellent transport and thermo-physical properties, being neither toxic nor flammable, and having a low price and high availability around the world. However, the high critical pressure and low critical temperature of CO2 often lead to transcritical operation, resulting in lower efficiency due to the additional compressor power necessary to achieve transcritical operation relative to subcritical HFC cycles. The Beijing–Taipei Expressway (Jing-Tai Expressway) of China reconstruction and expansion project (Qihe–Jinan section) features a 12-lane dual carriageway with high traffic volume. To ensure safe winter operation, deicing salt is heavily applied, necessitating enhanced salt freeze–thaw resistance of roadside crash barriers. In this project, manufactured sand was used as the fine aggregate in structural concrete. A systematic investigation was conducted to evaluate the effects of stone powder content, air content, air-void spacing factor, and aggregate properties on concrete performance, including salt freeze–thaw resistance, rapid freeze–thaw durability, and compressive strength. High heat fluxes in electronic devices must be effectively dissipated to prevent local hotspots, which are critical for long-term device reliability. In particular, advanced semiconductor packaging trends toward thin form factor products increase the need for understanding and improving in-plane conduction heat spreading in anisotropic materials. The 2D laser-based Ångstrom method, an extension of traditional Ångstrom and lock-in thermography techniques, measures in-plane thermal properties of anisotropic sheet-like materials. This method uses non-contact infrared temperature mapping to measure the thermal response to periodic laser heating at the center of a suspended sample.
