BACKGROUND: We aimed to investigate and characterise DILI due to approved therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
METHODS: Using the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN) prospective study, we evaluated definite, highly likely, or probable DILI attributed to IBD therapies, including use for non-IBD indications (but excluding corticosteroids). HLA allele associations were investigated.
RESULTS: Among 1806 participants, 81 (4.5%) had IBD-agent DILI: 31 biologics (27 infliximab), 35 immunomodulators (31 azathioprine/mercaptopurine), 14 aminosalicylates (11 sulfasalazine) and 1 small molecule (tofacitinib). Median age was 45 years with 75% female and 78% White. Patients with biologic-DILI were younger, had longer latency (median 124 days), …

Background Pathologists occasionally classify colorectal adenomas with dysplastic mucosal invasion as intramucosal carcinoma (IMC), or carcinoma in situ (CIS), instead of high-grade dysplasia (HGD), potentially leading to earlier surveillance colonoscopies and inappropriate surgical referrals. We aimed to analyze differences in the management of patients with these diagnoses, and examined the factors that may lead to inappropriate early interval (IEI) follow-up recommendations for surveillance.
Methods We reviewed 870 colonoscopy and pathology reports from 2015-2022, excluding cases of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and lesions not amenable to endoscopic resection. Surveillance appropriateness was defined in accordance with the 2020 US Multi Society …
30 Db On-Chip Ultra-High Inverse Weak Value Amplification, Yuhan Mei, Meiting Song, Andrew N. Jordan, Jaime Cardenas
30 Db On-Chip Ultra-High Inverse Weak Value Amplification, Yuhan Mei, Meiting Song, Andrew N. Jordan, Jaime Cardenas
Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
Weak value amplification (WVA) has emerged as a powerful technique that enhances measurement precision. However, traditional table-top WVA setups and on-chip demonstrations have not achieved an amplification over 20 dB. The practical limit of the amplification is the fidelity of photon post-selection. To address this limit, we design a weak value device with an over 30 dB interferometer extinction ratio, where the stray light in the dark port is minimized with thermally tunable phase shifters. As a result, the device successfully shows 30 dB WVA, termed ultra-high WVA. This WVA optimization strategy by improving interferometer extinction is extensible to a …

The 2020–2024 period marks a pivotal era in sustainable development, characterized by significant regulatory developments, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the International Sustainability Standards Board standards, and the introduction of mandatory ESG reporting requirements worldwide. This review examines how recent policy changes have reshaped the linkages between ESG and sustainability. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we conducted a systematic review examining empirical studies of ESG–sustainability performance relationships published between 2020 and 2024. Studies examined the quantitative relationships between ESG sustainability performance and publicly traded corporations. Quality assessment employed the adapted Newcastle–Ottawa Scale with sustainability-specific criteria. From 2847 …
Multilingual Assessment Practices In School-Based Speech Language Pathologists, Carolyn Alana Ferguson
Multilingual Assessment Practices In School-Based Speech Language Pathologists, Carolyn Alana Ferguson
Theses and Dissertations
Multilingual assessment is an area of growing relevance and importance in the field of speech language pathology. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the current assessment practices among school-based SLPs in relation to their language background status (e.g. monolingual, bilingual, multilingual) and their perceptions on issues related to multilingualism. A survey instrument was created, which asked SLPs to respond to questions on various topics, including demographics, caseload information, assessment practices, statements on multilingual perceptions, and clinical scenarios. There were 267 participants included in the study from across the country with varying ages and years of experience in the …

Doing Doctorates Differently: Creating A Multi-Dimensional Doctoral Object, Claire Walsh
Doing Doctorates Differently: Creating A Multi-Dimensional Doctoral Object, Claire Walsh
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
Creating a 'multi-dimensional doctoral object' was a creative research activity developed for Doing Doctorates Differently. The piece explored how doctoral thought might be encountered as a material, spatial and dimensional object rather than only as written argument. Working with fragments from five years of doctoral notes, the activity considered how a thesis accumulates, tears, folds, exceeds, and re-forms through the pressures of study. The work asks what happens when a doctorate is not treated as a linear document moving toward completion, but as a multi-dimensional object in formation: part archive, part method, part conceptual experiment. Through acts of cutting, arranging, layering …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Academic libraries have long been regarded as repositories of knowledge, but their roles are rapidly evolving to meet the growing demands of research productivity and professional development among academics. This paper explores how libraries are transforming into dynamic partners and knowledge hubs to facilitate access to resources, tools, and services that enhance research output and academic growth among academics. This study adopted a survey design approach. The population of this study is all the 86 academic librarians from the nine university libraries in Kwara State. Total enumeration sampling technique was used and data were collected via questionnaire from the respondents. …

Background/objectives: Quality improvement (QI) is widely used in global health to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and strengthen service delivery. The Texas Children's Global Health Network (TCGHN) includes nine independent non-governmental organizations supporting healthcare in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with pediatric HIV clinical centers of excellence in six countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), supported technically by Baylor College of Medicine. We describe the development of a virtual QI Community of Practice (QICoP) to connect geographically dispersed teams and strengthen local QI capacity.
Methods: In 2022, QI and global health experts convened to design the QICoP and assess site readiness. …

The human microbiota is implicated in the development and progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Given the increased RA burden in women and well-known correlations between the vaginal microbiota and local inflammation, we seek to understand the vaginal microenvironment in the context of RA pathology. Self-collected vaginal swabs and questionnaires on dietary, menstrual, and health information were obtained from 36 RA and 50 demographically-matched control women, 18–63 years of age. Medication regimen, along with disease activity and severity, was captured for the RA cohort. Vaginal swabs were subjected to long-read 16S rRNA gene sequencing, multiplex cytokine analyses, and quantification of rheumatoid …

This study employs density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the fluorite-derived tetragonal hydride MgTiH4, highlighting its multifunctionality for energy-related applications. Structural optimization reveals lattice constants of a = b = 3.15 Å and c = 4.70 Å, with a unit cell volume of 46.59 Å3 and a high bulk modulus of 114.21 GPa, indicating mechanical robustness. Compared to its MgTiH4 and CaTiH4 analogs, SrTiH4 exhibits the highest phonon frequency (1355.19 cm-1). Superior thermodynamic stability (formation enthalpy: –3.35 eV) is seen in MgTiH4. Electronic band structure analysis reveals a narrow indirect …
