The Impact Of Veterinary Stewardship Program Implementations On Backyard Chicken Farming In Rural Georgia, Lauren Ashley Herrin Jan 2025

The Impact Of Veterinary Stewardship Program Implementations On Backyard Chicken Farming In Rural Georgia, Lauren Ashley Herrin

Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources Law

In this article, Lauren Ashley Herrin examines the impacts of new FDA veterinary stewardship regulations on backyard chicken farming in rural Georgia. She explains that requiring prescriptions for previously over-the-counter antibiotics disproportionately harms low-income and rural communities by limiting access to affordable veterinary care, worsening risks of disease spread and public health threats. Herrin argues for policy approaches that balance antimicrobial resistance concerns with the realities of rural accessibility. She proposes solutions such as telehealth veterinary consultations, scholarship programs to encourage rural veterinary practice, and expanding prescriptive authority for veterinary technicians to ensure sustainable animal health care in underserved areas

When Breathing Becomes Wheezing: Why Kentucky Should Require Schools To Conduct Radon Testing, Abbey Norvell

Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources Law

In this note, Abbey Norvell analyzes the dangers of radon exposure in Kentucky schools, highlighting the state’s nation-leading lung cancer rates and the heightened risks for children. She explains that Kentucky has no law requiring schools to test for or mitigate radon levels, leaving students vulnerable. Norvell argues for mandatory radon testing and remediation in Kentucky schools. She proposes legislation modeled on other states requiring testing in both public and private schools within five years, and remediation within two years if levels exceed EPA standards.

Pesticide Lies! A Call For Epa Action As Recent Judicial Decisions Reveal The Harmful Truth Resulting From Exposure, Stevi Whitman Jan 2025

Pesticide Lies! A Call For Epa Action As Recent Judicial Decisions Reveal The Harmful Truth Resulting From Exposure, Stevi Whitman

Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture, & Natural Resources Law

In this note, Stevi Whitman analyzes the dangers of weak pesticide regulation in the United States. Whitman explains that the EPA’s reliance on the vague “unreasonable adverse effects” standard under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) allows harmful products like Roundup to remain on the market despite strong evidence of health risks. Whitman argues for strengthening U.S. pesticide laws to match the European Union’s stricter safety threshold. She proposes amending FIFRA to require proactive bans on hazardous pesticides and greater accountability from manufacturers to better protect public health and the environment.

Analysing The Us—China “Ai Cold War” Narrative, Yujia He, Richard Heeks

Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce Faculty Publications

Discussions about artificial intelligence (AI) are gaining prominence in the recent revival of “cold war” narratives comparing US-China relations today to the historical rivalry between the US and the Soviet Union. Drawing on a review of existing academic and policy literature engaging with the “AI cold war” narrative, this paper examines how the narrative is justified, and numerous ways that it can be challenged. It finds that the framing is largely driven by the securitisation of AI, as state actors and policy pundits view AI innovations’ dual-use capabilities as key to national security and ideological competition. However, critics posit that …

Please Provide Feedback? How To Effectively Receive And Learn From Feedback About Your Writing, Melissa N. Henke

Law Faculty Popular Media

We have all been there. We submit a draft document to a supervising attorney or valued colleague. And then we wait. Will we receive criticism? Will we receive praise? At some point we just hope to hear something in response. Or do we?

Once we get a response, the criticism is hard to receive. We may get angry or upset, we may feel defensive or defeated, or we may just shut down and try to avoid the feedback altogether. Sometimes even feedback framed as praise can leave us feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed.

An aversion to feedback, especially to criticism, is …

Molecular Dynamics-Based Two-Dimensional Simulation Of Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing Process For Unimodal And Bimodal Systems, Yeasir Mohammad Akib, Ehsan Marzbanrad, Farid Ahmed

Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications

The trend of adapting powder bed fusion (PBF) for product manufacturing continues to grow as this process is highly capable of producing functional 3D components with micro-scale precision. The powder bed’s properties (e.g., powder packing, material properties, flowability, etc.) and thermal energy deposition heavily influence the build quality in the PBF process. The packing density in the powder bed dictates the bulk powder behavior and in-process performance and, therefore, significantly impacts the mechanical and physical properties of the printed components. Numerical modeling of the powder bed process helps to understand the powder spreading process and predict experimental outcomes. A two-dimensional …

In Hototogisu, Tokutomi Roka (1868–1927) utilizes the motif of tuberculosis to explore and illustrate the familial, societal, and national dynamics of the Meiji period, as well as to critique the subordinate role of women within the family structure. This study aims to analyze how women are represented within the narrative and how tuberculosis functions as a literary device to underscore their perceived inferiority. By applying a historical perspective, the research demonstrates that tuberculosis symbolizes both the physical and social vulnerability imposed upon women. This symbolic representation prompts the female protagonist to question traditional Japanese values and adopt Western ideals, …

The Local Recording Industry And Chinese Songs In Singapore, 1950s And 1960s, Song Wei Goh

Manusya, Journal of Humanities

This paper argues that the local Chinese recording industry in post-Second World War Singapore functioned as a discursive sphere, which reflected the different understandings between the state and the people about what constituted “local Chinese culture”, during the formative years of the newly independent Singapore. In the 1950s and 1960s, technological advancement and state policies motivated the establishment of numerous local record companies with many singers discovered and recordings produced. Following Singapore’s independence, the local Chinese song recordings were employed by different agencies into narratives of nation-building and portrayed as the formation of “local Chinese culture”. This was notwithstanding the …
