[Review Of The Book Querns And Mills In Mediterranean Antiquity. Tradition And Innovation During The First Millennium Bc, By N. Alonso, T. J. Anderson, L. Jaccottey]., Jared T. Benton

Art Faculty Publications

[First paragraph] Querns and Mills in Mediterranean Antiquity (hereafter QMMA) is the publication of an EAA (European Association of Archaeologists) session on querns held in Barcelona in 2018. The purpose of the session—and by extension the volume—was to fill a gap by studying the smaller, hand-operated millstones, which have received less attention than their larger Roman-era and medieval counterparts. A second aim was to begin a conversation about standardizing the study of millstones, and particularly querns, in terminology and methodology.

Being And Becoming Third-Space Professionals: A Case Study From Low-And-Middle Income Countries, Azra Naseem, Jannat Karim Khan, Tashmin Khamis, Jane Rarieya Jan 2025

Being And Becoming Third-Space Professionals: A Case Study From Low-And-Middle Income Countries, Azra Naseem, Jannat Karim Khan, Tashmin Khamis, Jane Rarieya

Institute for Educational Development, East Africa

This case study explores the authors’ experiences of establishing the identity of third-space professionals at a multi-country university with campuses on three continents. In particular, it draws on their identities and experiences as female leaders in educational development. Using autoethnography, the authors reflect on their experiences to identify issues, strategies, and areas for further development regarding third-space professionals’ identities, particularly with regard to women. As the concept of third-space professionals is relatively new in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) where the university is located, this journey of becoming and being third-space professionals was fraught with challenges that question traditional norms …

Cascade Approach On Teachers' Continuous Professional Development To Improve Learning Outcomes In Pre-Primary And Primary Education: Experience In The Implementation Of The F4l Project In East Africa., Fortidas Bakuza, Nyagwegwe Wango, Jane Rarieya

Institute for Educational Development, East Africa

The cascade method in education is a scalable and affordable continuous professional development (CPD) strategy that entails training a subset of teachers who impart newly learned knowledge to their peers. Enhancements to teachers' knowledge and abilities are among its positive results; nonetheless, problems such as content misunderstandings show how much improvement is required. This paper presents a study that examined the efficacy of a cascading approach to teacher professional development. According to this study, the most effective training approaches emphasize reflection and experience. Thus far, the cascade approach has shown potential for improving teaching methods and fits in with the …

Credit Scoring In Digital Lending: A Stepwise Logistic Regression And Weight Of Evidence Approach In Kenya, Howard Omukami, Cynthia Mwau, Denis Kuria Wangui, Andrew Mbuya Jan 2025

Credit Scoring In Digital Lending: A Stepwise Logistic Regression And Weight Of Evidence Approach In Kenya, Howard Omukami, Cynthia Mwau, Denis Kuria Wangui, Andrew Mbuya

Institute for Educational Development, East Africa

Mobile money lending has grown rapidly in recent years, with one of the major challenges being the determination of borrowers' creditworthiness, a classification problem complicated by credit risk and the choice of appropriate scoring models. Credit scoring, which uses statistical analysis of historical borrower data to estimate repayment likelihood, remains a critical tool for financial institutions in assessing lending risk. This study evaluates borrower creditworthiness using historical data from Mobipesa Limited, a digital lending company based in Nairobi, Kenya. Data were collected from 495 borrowers over one year, comprising 33 predictor variables (32 numeric and one categorical). Stepwise logistic regression …

Sacrosanct Or Sacred: Creating A Theological Framework To Undergird Church Design, Aaron Farmer Jan 2025

Sacrosanct Or Sacred: Creating A Theological Framework To Undergird Church Design, Aaron Farmer

Doctor of Ministry Projects and Theses

This paper aims to ascertain whether a Theology of Architecture—a theological framework for planning and constructing church buildings—can be identified within the Biblical narrative or through the historical practices of ecclesial design. The research begins with an examination of the biblical architecture of the Old Testament, primarily described in narratives rather than corroborated by archaeological evidence. A review of historical periods of ecclesial design follows, aiming to identify phases where ecclesial design exhibited patterns analogous to those found in the Old Testament. The study uncovers a consistent pattern in both testaments wherein architecture represents divine work within specific timeframes and …

A Study Of User Experiences Of Pediatric Physicians With Electronic Health Record Systems: Encounters With Task Complexity And Efficiency Of User Task Flows, Roseanne Alhindi

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

way patient information is stored, managed, and accessed. This transition to Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems has enhanced the efficiency and accuracy of healthcare delivery by enabling quick access to patient records, reduction of errors, and facilitation of coordination among healthcare providers. In the EHR system, diverse tasks are performed for clinical processes and patient care. These tasks can be considered simple or complex, ranging from documenting patient visits and updating medical histories to ordering tests and managing prescriptions. Although EHR systems have become more prevalent in their use, there are noted challenges associated with the design of the system …

Rukeyser asked Einstein to “lend his name to her effort to make Gibbs known to a time that needed the story of his achievement." Without reading Rukeyser’s book, Einstein refused, saying that “In my view, there is but one way to bring a great scientist to the attention of the larger public: it …

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This study, conducted using a silty sand reservoir rock extracted from a Kuwait-producing oilfield, provides crucial insights into fluid distribution patterns and mineralogy, as well as wettability contact angle preferences. The method used for visual identification not only captures rock physics but also suggests effective oil recovery displacement strategies. Visual identification is presented using 2D image technology and a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Analytical data are presented from electron bombardments and backscattering reflections collected in the BSE detector. These analyses were used to characterize the various surface boundary morphology parameters of the silty sand mineral surfaces, including area, perimeter, mineral …

Introduction, Jirayudh Sinthuphan Jan 2025

Introduction, Jirayudh Sinthuphan

Asian Review

This issue of Asian Review is a product of the Asian Consortium of South Asian Studies. The article in this volume explores the profound and multifaceted ways in which communities of South Asian descent have migrated to, settled in, and dynamically reshaped their identities within Southeast Asia. Moving beyond the historical narrative of South Asian Diaspora, these studies demonstrate that the notions of belonging, diasporic identity and national identity are not static concepts but are continuously negotiated, performed, and politicized in response to local contexts and global shifts. The papers collectively reveal a complex history of South Asian migration.

The Emerging Framework For The Recognition & Enforcement Of Annulled Arbitral Awards In U.S. Jurisprudence, Sarah Klim Jan 2025

The Emerging Framework For The Recognition & Enforcement Of Annulled Arbitral Awards In U.S. Jurisprudence, Sarah Klim

Articles

The recognition and enforcement of foreign awards are governed almost universally by the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (the "New York Convention"). However, this recognition and enforcement necessarily invokes national judicial power. The New York Convention does not devise a harmonized set of rules for courts to follow when faced with a request to recognize and enforce an annulled award. This has resulted in divergent approaches by national courts, which derive "not from any perversity of judges but from good faith variants in perspectives on how to construe the treaty."  This paper seeks …
