Parent Perspectives On The Potential For And Process Of Infant Organ Donation, Julia St Louis, Amy L. Wright, Sonny Dhanani, Charles Keown-Stoneman, Jennifer Woolfsmith, Danielle Joseph, Kimberley Widger

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Introduction: Despite the potential to shorten waitlists for life-saving transplants, infant organ donation is rare globally (1). Infant donors (less than one year of age) can reduce waitlist mortality for both infants and children who require size-matched organs like hearts and lungs, and adults who can receive kidney transplants from infant donors (2). Infants can donate their organs after death by circulatory criteria (DDCC) (i.e., the heart stops beating)(1) if the death follows the withdrawal of life-sustaining measures (WLSM) (i.e., mechanical ventilation and hemodynamic supports like vasopressors). However, donation rates are very low(2). Providers have reported rarely offering donation due …

Debunking Toxic Social Media Bias With The Implementation Of Evidence-Based Nursing Education, Brittany Nettles, Julie Baker-Townsend

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Social media has become a powerful influence on student nurses in the United States, shaping both their personal values and professional behaviors. Its impact is multifaceted, with evidence pointing to both positive and negative effects, particularly in relationship to nursing student empathy (Nihayati et al., 2025; Tan, Ni, Liu, & Shorey, 2024). Empathy, which is to understand and value another person’s experiences, is the cornerstone of nursing practice and remains central to ethical patient care, particularly in relation to the principles of beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy, justice, fidelity, and dignity. In 2024, a new ideology emerged on social media platforms: “Toxic …

A Retrospective Analysis Of Structured And Semi-Structured Training Program Design For Law Enforcement Recruits, Ian Bonder Jul 2026

A Retrospective Analysis Of Structured And Semi-Structured Training Program Design For Law Enforcement Recruits, Ian Bonder

Doctorate in Kinesiology

Law enforcement recruits typically complete law enforcement agency (LEA) academy training before assuming sworn-in duty. Tactical strength and conditioning facilitators (TSAC-F) may need to modify program design based on their unique circumstances. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different training program designs in five state-mandated tests (vertical jump [VJ], 1-minute sit-ups and push-ups, 300-meter [300m] sprint, and 2.4-kilometer [2.4km] run) among LEA recruits at a Midwest LEA training academy. De-identified data for 26 LEA recruits (Periodized/Structured Group [PSG; n = 7]) and (Semi-structured Group [SSG; n = 19]) were retrospectively analyzed. Repeated measures ANOVA assessed …

A Step-By-Step Shor's Algorithm Walkthrough: From Theory To Implementation, Trung Nguyen, Samuel Petruescu, Shrikant Jadhav, Hiu Yung Wong Jul 2026

A Step-By-Step Shor's Algorithm Walkthrough: From Theory To Implementation, Trung Nguyen, Samuel Petruescu, Shrikant Jadhav, Hiu Yung Wong

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Quantum computing is inherently abstract and often counterintuitive from the perspective of classical physics. For learners to develop a deeper understanding, it is useful to study a practical example thoroughly, from its mathematical formalism to quantum circuit implementation. Shor's algorithm for period finding, which can then be used for prime factorization, is demonstrated in this paper due to its practical significance. While numerous publications on Shor's algorithm exist, they tend to focus on advanced theoretical analysis, specific implementation details, or narrowly defined research aspects; consequently, they are often not well-suited for educational purposes for beginning and intermediate learners. This paper …

Airport Coopetition And Spatial Heterogeneity In China: A Two-Regime Spatial Econometric Analysis, Zhen Wu, Polin Lai, Saeyeon Roh, Jeong Hugh Han

Plymouth Business School

The development of aeronautical infrastructure and the rise of low-cost carriers have substantially increased the demand for air travel. Moreover, airport development is shaped by spatial heterogeneity factors such as environmental conditions, regulatory frameworks, and socioeconomic variables, which complicate coopetitive interactions within the aviation network. To examine these phenomena, a dual-regime spatial econometric model utilizing different spatial weight matrices has been constructed. The model captures asymmetries in airport coopetition by analyzing variations in spatial autoregressive coefficients across regimes and identifies the spatial heterogeneity factors that drive these asymmetric relationships. Analyzing data from 48 major Chinese airports over 22 years reveals …

CODEE Journal

This paper presents the professional-development and institutional-implementation component of a three-paper program on introducing data-driven dynamical systems into undergraduate ordinary differential equations instruction at a primarily undergraduate institution. The companion paper \cite{SelvitellaAnderson2026} develops the mathematical and computational content, including regression, regularization, Dynamic Mode Decomposition, Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamics, and a Van der Pol oscillator activity. The present paper asks a complementary implementation question: what departmental structures, graduate teaching assistant roles, professional-development activities, and course-support pathways are needed for such materials to become teachable within local undergraduate settings?

We describe a three-phase professional-development model for graduate teaching assistants in the …

Exploring Best Practices In Evaluating Clinical Skills Amongst Nursing Students: A Scoping Review, Kateryna Metersky, Tommy Lin, Tina Lam, Areej Al-Hamad, Daria Romaniuk Jul 2026

Exploring Best Practices In Evaluating Clinical Skills Amongst Nursing Students: A Scoping Review, Kateryna Metersky, Tommy Lin, Tina Lam, Areej Al-Hamad, Daria Romaniuk

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Undergraduate nursing students are required to perform a high-stakes clinical skills test that determines their ability to progress in the program and engage in clinical practice. Nursing students have perceived skills testing to be a stressful and high-pressure situation, leading to a decreased sense of confidence when performing the required skills (Monson et al., 2021). Thus, faculty should not rely solely on students passing a checkoff test as an indicator of safe skill performance, raising questions about the value and utility of such skill checkoffs (Aldridge, 2024). As nursing student enrollment numbers increase to keep pace with human healthcare resource …

Cmsi Translations #33: A Super-Aip Submarine Under The Bayi Flag, Ming Di

CMSI Translations

Foreign media sources believe that, in recent years, the Chinese Navy has shown keen interest in “small-reactor” nuclear submarines—vessels utilizing compact nuclear reactors as air independent propulsion (AIP) systems—and do not rule out the possibility that engineering trials have already been conducted. So, what exactly is the Chinese Navy’s requirement for such submarines, and through what technical pathways might this requirement be realized?
