Background/Objectives: In the first months of their life, infants rely on maternal antibodies for immune protection. Breastmilk is a major source of these defenses, supplying secretory IgA, IgG, and IgM that help guard mucosal surfaces against pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. Most studies on breastmilk immunity in the context of COVID-19 have emphasized circulating monomeric IgA, rather than the multimeric secretory IgA (sIgA) that is active at mucosal barriers. This study assessed in-depth the contribution of breastmilk antibody subtypes to SARS-CoV-2 neutralization capacity and how these profiles differ following maternal COVID-19 infection versus vaccination during pregnancy or postpartum.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medical device providing cooling anesthesia to the eye as local anesthesia for intravitreal (IVT) injections.

SUBJECTS/METHODS: As a multicenter, open label, dose escalation clinical trial, subjects receiving at least 3 IVT injections in the study eye were recruited to participate. All patients received subconjunctival lidocaine as their anesthesia for previous IVT injections. Rare Pediatric Venolymphatic Malformations: Pericardial Cyst Mimickers, Shelby E Walcott, Joseph Burns, Juan Pablo Sandoval Jones, Neil Cambronero, David Brennen, Thomas M Glenn, Betul Yilmaz Furtun

Background: Pericardial cystic masses are rare, and exceedingly so in pediatrics. The clinical course of such masses in children is poorly described.

Case summary: We report 2 cases in 3- and 7-year-old children. Both were initially thought to represent pericardial cysts on imaging, but surgical excision and histopathology confirmed diagnoses of a venolymphatic malformation and an epicardial cyst, respectively. The first patient presented with abdominal pain, and the second patient was asymptomatic. Both recovered well after an uncomplicated surgical intervention.

Discussion: A small number of patients with pericardial masses will have symptoms thought to be related to compression of adjacent …

Background: Maintaining stable glucose levels is important for metabolic health. Glucose excursions (GEs), which are marked increases in glucose following food intake, have been associated with a higher risk for cardiovascular disease and metabolic dysfunction. Individuals with overweight or obesity who do not have diabetes may still show impaired glucose regulation, as reflected in increased glucose variability. Hunger, as a real-time physiological cue, may be associated with subsequent glucose changes and represents a potential target for just-in-time adaptive interventions.

Emotion Work In Emergency Communication Workers: A Mixed-Methods Analysis On Well-Being, Katherine Luann Sweeney

Emergency communication workers play a vital role in public safety and healthcare, but they are frequently an overlooked population when studying well-being. With a survey sample size of N=336, and an interview sample size of N=24, this dissertation utilizes a mixed-methods approach to explore what kind of factors influence dispatcher well-being. The mixed-methods findings lead to three important outcomes. First, there are detrimental consequences of shift work on dispatchers’ overall health. Second, dispatchers report high levels of emotional exhaustion, stress, and trauma exposure. The qualitative findings suggest that the rewards associated with helping people outweigh the mental health consequences. Lastly, …

One of the largest causes of food waste in the United States is recall or disposal of produce due to bacterial infection, with a prevalent cause being the pathogen Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium. Current detection methods are inadequate for many use cases due to cost and speed of detection. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a novel method of detecting the presence of S. Typhimurium quickly using a combination of aptamers and love-surface acoustic wave sensors. Our experiments demonstrate repeatable changes in sensor response during exposure to S. Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in Africa, with survival rates starkly lagging behind global benchmarks because of systemic inequities in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment access. Despite representing only 6% of global smokers, the continent faces a disproportionate burden driven by environmental and occupational carcinogens, aggressive tobacco marketing, and fragmented health care infrastructure. Microaxial flow devices (MFDs) provide hemodynamic support in patients with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction but may introduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) during electroanatomic mapping, limiting the accuracy of magnetic-based localization systems. Although catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation in advanced heart failure is increasingly recognized as beneficial, limited data exist on mapping feasibility in patients supported by contemporary MFDs. Even less is known regarding left atrial flutter ablation in this setting.

The Commons Of The Mind: Modeling Repeat-Player Behavior In Intellectual Property Infringement Disputes, Eliot Bridges Warner

This thesis investigates the applicability of Marc Galanter's 1974 model of repeat-player (RP) and one-shotter (OS) civil litigation to the domain of intellectual property (IP) infringement disputes. While Galanter's framework predicts that repeat players will enjoy structural advantages over one-shotters, this paper argues that IP deviates from that model in consequential ways. Unique features of IP infringement litigation, including the duty to enforce, the risk of invalidation at trial, the inverse relationship between firm size and infringement stakes, and compounding advantages accruing to large firms, produce a hierarchy of strategic advantage that is more steeply resource-dependent than Galanter anticipates.

Abstract – Bactrocera dorsalis is a major horticultural pest. Biocontrol using parasitoids, such as Fopius arisanus, is a sustainable tool for managing this pest. However, the mechanisms enabling the successful parasitism of B. dorsalis are poorly understood. Using transcriptomic profiling, cellular bioassays, and targeted metabolite analyses, we investigated how F. arisanus modulates the immunity and metabolic activity of B. dorsalis to achieve a high parasitism rate. Our results revealed a weak and late encapsulation response of B. dorsalis towards F. arisanus. Additionally, parasitism reduced the number of circulating haemocytes by 35%, lowered constitutive granulocyte counts and inhibited phenoloxidase activity in …

Children with multiple disabilities often encounter significant barriers to participating in physical activity, impacting not only their physical health but also their overall experience in school. This study places the voices of four children at the centre of their own research, exploring their lived experiences of participating in physical activity in school. Using Clark’s (2017) Mosaic approach, this child-centred participatory study shows how children take part and engage with physical activity as part of their school day. These conditions are found in the automotive sector, notably in internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). Civic agriculture is often credited with strengthening democratic life by encouraging civic and political engagement, yet this claim has scarcely been tested in socioeconomically marginalized regions. Using original survey data collected through a combination of random and purposive sampling, this study assesses that relationship in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, a majority-Hispanic agricultural region marked by high poverty and low civic participation. Phone and online surveys were administered in English and Spanish to reach both the general population and individuals involved in civic agriculture initiatives, yielding over 400 responses. Introduction: This case study presents a comprehensive neuroanatomical and histological analysis of the central nervous system from a 3-year-old donor with a rare complex neurological condition characterized by progressive encephalopathy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, micrencephaly, and infantile spasms. Method: This analysis was conducted using a combination of detailed gross dissection and histological examination to assess structural and neuronal abnormalities across multiple brain and spinal cord regions.
