Coral reefs are increasingly threatened by marine heatwaves, disease outbreaks, and other anthropogenic stressors, leading to widespread declines in coral cover worldwide. As a result, efforts are increasingly focused on identifying thermally tolerant corals for reef restoration. However, it remains unclear whether thermal tolerance is maintained following transplantation and whether thermally tolerant corals perform differently in novel environments. This dissertation examined thermal tolerance, survivorship, symbiont communities, and growth in two dominant Hawaiian reef-building corals, Montipora capitata and Porites compressa, using a reciprocal transplant experiment between Kāneʻohe Bay and Ulupaʻu, Oʻahu. The present study tested the predictive validity of the Basic Evaluation Process framework by examining whether Fear and Anger emerge as competing emotional attractors during threat appraisal. Using a mouse-tracking paradigm with audio recording, fifty participants reasoned aloud about a self-selected threatening situation while continuously rating their Fear and Anger. Cross-correlation analysis confirmed dynamic dependence between Fear and Anger, although the coupling was positive rather than negative, indicating co-activation rather than mutual suppression. Vector field analysis identified stable attractor structures for all participants, but the distribution of primary attractors across the Fear by Anger state space did not reveal a …

[Objective] To establish a rapid detection method for viable Salmonella based on specific phage infection and recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) in response to the key challenge that traditional molecular biological detection methods have difficulty in conveniently distinguishing between viable and non-viable foodborne pathogens. [Methods] Taking advantage of the characteristic that O-1 phage only proliferates in viable bacteria, the phage is added to the enriched sample. After further incubation, total DNA is extracted. [Objective] To develop a shrimp freshness indicator film with good amine responsiveness and stability for the rapid and non-destructive detection of shrimp quality changes. [Methods] Using sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and starch as film-forming substrates, indicator films were prepared with grape seed proanthocyanidins, curcumin, and their mixtures as indicators. [Methods] Jujubes of Xinjiang are taken as the research objects. Based on hot air drying technology, three drying temperature and wind speed levels are set up to explore the drying characteristics and quality changes of crack-free and cracked jujubes under different drying conditions. [Results] Under hot-air drying conditions, the drying rate can be accelerated by increasing drying temperature and wind speed. This study examines iron-based graphene nanoplatelets (Fe-GNPs), synthesized through a modified ferrocene pyrolysis route, as hybrid nano-additives for cement mortars. The nanomaterial was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis, confirming a graphitic carbon network decorated with crystalline α-Fe nanoparticles. Mortars containing 0.001, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 wt.% Fe-GNPs, with and without surfactant-assisted ultrasonication, were tested in flexure and compression after 7 and 28 days of curing. The results showed a clear concentration-dependent response, with 0.01 wt.% yielding the highest strength gains. At 28 days, this dosage increased flexural strength by 14.5% without …

The study has adopted a stylistic approach to reveal the unifying governing pattern of the chapter headings. Inadequate levels of perceived safety on campuses have been reported by college students (e.g., Maffini & Dillard, 2021) and connected to college students' mental health concerns (e.g., sleep disturbances; Etopio et al., 2019). Little is known about student-athletes’ (SA) perceptions of safety, particularly related to their racial and gender identities, and how their perception of safety is related to their mental health. We surveyed 213 SAs regarding their safety perceptions on campus, athletic department, and teams, along with anxiety (GAD-2), depression (PHQ-2), and sleep disturbances (PROMIS-SD).
