Effect Of Concomitant Medications Affecting Gastric Ph And Motility On Posaconazole Tablet Pharmacokinetics, Walter K. Kraft, P. Chang, Mlps Van Iersel, H. Waskin, G. Krishna, W. Kersemaekers

Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Faculty Papers

Poster presented at: Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (52nd ICAAC) held in San Francisco 9/9-9/12

Background: Posaconazole (POS) oral suspension is an extended-spectrum triazole that should be taken with food to maximize absorption. A new POS tablet formulation has demonstrated improved bioavailability over oral suspension in healthy adults in the fasting state. This study evaluated the effect of concomitant medications altering gastric pH (antacid, ranitidine, and esomeprazole) and motility (metoclopramide) on the pharmacokinetics of POS tablet.

Methods: This was a prospective, open-label, 5-way crossover study in 20 healthy volunteers. In each treatment period, a single 400-mg (100 …

Public Relations 'Tech'niques: Vocational School Recruitment, Rachel Graeff

Theses and Dissertations

The problem is that the large majority of high school graduates pursue four-year college degrees when there are not enough professional jobs that require four-year degrees but rather require workers to have job-specific skills. These skills are taught by vocational schools at both the high school and the post-secondary levels. The purpose of this study was to determine what public relations techniques vocational schools use and how they can improve on these techniques to increase enrollment. Six in-depth interviews were conducted with PR/marketing practitioners at vocational schools to find out what techniques and channels their school uses to attract students. …

In-Text And Out-Of-Text Engagement: Interactional Features In Students' Academic Writing And Academic Engagement, Florette Press Sep 2012

In-Text And Out-Of-Text Engagement: Interactional Features In Students' Academic Writing And Academic Engagement, Florette Press

Theses and Dissertations

While student engagement theory recognizes writing as an engaging activity, there have been few studies that explore the levels of engagement within college students' academic writing. Analyses of in-text interactions between writers and their imagined reader(s) can uncover writers' attitudes about themselves as writers and as participants in the academic community. This study looked specifically at students' in-text interaction in the context of overall student engagement. Making a connection between interactional features in writing and overall student engagement provided a new perspective by which professors and administrators can evaluate students' academic integration. This study combined text analysis and interviews with …

Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing On “The Citizens United Court And The Continuing Importance Of The Voting Rights Act”, Anthony Johnstone

Faculty Journal Articles & Other Writings

My testimony today concerns the role of the Supreme Court in reviewing the constitutionality of “laws of democracy,” including campaign finance regulation, election administration, and voting rights enforcement. I will compare the different approaches the Court has taken toward two controversies, corporate campaign spending and voter identification laws, and attempt to draw some lessons from the comparison for the Court’s pending review of the Voting Rights Act.

Investigation Of The Role Of Tnf-A Converting Enzyme (Tace) In The Inhibition Of Cell Surface And Soluble Tnf-A Production By Acute Ethanol Exposure., Kristine Von Maltzan, Wei Tan, Stephen B. Pruett Sep 2012

Investigation Of The Role Of Tnf-A Converting Enzyme (Tace) In The Inhibition Of Cell Surface And Soluble Tnf-A Production By Acute Ethanol Exposure., Kristine Von Maltzan, Wei Tan, Stephen B. Pruett

CVM Publications

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a fundamental role in the immune system by detecting pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) to sense host infection. Ethanol at doses relevant for humans inhibits the pathogen induced cytokine response mediated through TLRs. The current study was designed to investigate the mechanisms of this effect by determining whether ethanol inhibits TLR3 and TLR4 mediated TNF-? secretion through inhibition of transcription factor activation or post-transcriptional effects. In NF-?B reporter mice, activation of NF-?B in vivo by LPS was inhibited by ethanol (LPS alone yielded 170,000?35,300 arbitrary units of light emission; LPS plus ethanol yielded 56,120?16880, p = …

Removal Of Codeine In Pediatric Oncology: A Qualitative Evaluation Of Success And Attitudes, Karina L. Black, Mary Anne Venner, Jennifer Shepherd, Marcel Romanick, Mark Belletrutti, Shirley Perry Sep 2012

Removal Of Codeine In Pediatric Oncology: A Qualitative Evaluation Of Success And Attitudes, Karina L. Black, Mary Anne Venner, Jennifer Shepherd, Marcel Romanick, Mark Belletrutti, Shirley Perry

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Codeine is an opioid analgesic requiring hepatic conversion to morphine via CYP2D6 to provide analgesic effect. CYP2D6 population polymorphisms cause unpredictable conversion to morphine. Multiple reports of death or adverse events in children receiving codeine has led to increased calls for discontinuation of use in children. Our Pediatric Oncology Program volunteered to pilot codeine removal. When looking for implementation strategies for this practice change, neither successful implementation nor barriers to change had been reported. Objectives: To evaluate whether prescription of codeine was reduced, assess the attitudes of health professionals at different points during practice change, determine if our educational …

Methods: Our sample size consisted of consecutive patients with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention. A retrospective approach was utlized.

Results: In general the CADILLAC, TIMI and GRACE risk scores all had relatively high predictive accuracy for major cardiac events in hospital, with C …
