The Plural Of Anecdote Is Not Data: Teaching Law Students Basic Survey Methodology To Improve Access To Justice In Unemployment Insurance Appeals, Enrique S. Pumar, Faith Mullen
University of the District of Columbia Law Review
This project has its origins at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC). In March 2008, UDC hosted a meeting between the Pro Bono Committee of the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings, and clinical professors and pro bono coordinators from several law schools in the District of Columbia. At that meeting, the Pro Bono Committee initiated a dialogue about how to better meet the needs of self-represented individuals who appear before the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) and extended an invitation to attend some OAH hearings. Looking Through The Prism Of Privacy And Trespass: Smartphones And The Fourth Amendment, Saby Ghoshray
University of the District of Columbia Law Review
Technology in the twenty-first century has dramatically changed our lives, but the law has not kept pace with technological advances. The treatment of smartphones in Fourth Amendment jurisprudence is no exception. This is made evident by the increasingly scattered outcomes of litigation involving the privacy interests of smartphone owners.' As the cross-jurisdictional inconsistencies of judicial decisions applying the Fourth Amendment to smartphones mount, I am drawn to seek answers from two foundational pillars of the Supreme Court's search and seizure jurisprudence: protection against invasions of privacy and the bulwark against trespass.

Threading The Needle:Constitutional Ways For Local Governments To Refuse Cooperation With Civil Immigration Policies, Mary Cheh
University of the District of Columbia Law Review
On October 19, 2011, the mayor of Washington, D.C. issued an Executive Order to limit the District's cooperation with the federal government's Immigration and Naturalization Service in identifying and deporting undocumented residents.' In so doing, the mayor joined with many other communities' that, while specifically not shielding undocumented aliens engaged in criminal activity, want to maintain the trust and care of the many law-abiding immigrants within their borders. The mayor's Order is a direct response to the federal government's more aggressive effort to enlist local authorities in the roundup of undocumented aliens,' and raises the question which is the subject …

Warrantless Searches And Smartphones: Privacy In The Palm Of Your Hand?, Margaret M. Lawton
University of the District of Columbia Law Review
Incident to a drug arrest, a police officer removes a smartphone from the pocket of the defendant. The smartphone may have incriminating evidence-phone numbers, pictures, text messages, and e-mails. But can the officer examine the smartphone on the scene or back at the station? Or does the officer need to show probable cause and obtain a warrant before examining the phone? If the phone were instead the arrestee's wallet or a cigarette package, under the search incident to lawful arrest exception to the Fourth Amendment's warrant requirement the officer could open and search inside either of these "containers." Anything found …

Northern Thailand Geothermal Resources And Development: A Review And 2012 Update, Fongsaward Suvagondha Singharajwarapan, Spencer H. Wood, Natthaporn Prommakorn, Lara Owens
Geosciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
Northern Thailand has 16 hot spring systems with surface temperatures near or greater than 80°C with potential for binary plant power generation. Presently only Fang system generates power from wells flowing a total of 8.3 1/s of 116°C water to a 300 kW single module Ormat binary plant. Current production is 150-250 KW, which potentially can be increased by constructing new wells and increasing flow by pumping. Of the other 15 systems, 4 are in national parks and not considered for development. Several of the hot springs systems have silica geothermometry >130°C suggesting significant undeveloped resources exist in northern Thailand. …

The Effectiveness Of Using The Alternating Training Method In Developing Explosive Strength And Speed-Specific Strength And Its Impact On The Performance Of The Spike Skill In Volleyball, Suhad Qasim Saeed
Modern Sport
The research problem has been identified as the lack of studies and research addressing modern training methods, as previous research indicates that the exercises used are insufficient to enhance the level of physical performance in the sample. Specifically, there was a lack of strength training in the participants' training sessions, which led to the implementation of a cross-training method. The study involved two groups (experimental and control) consisting of 20 young volleyball players, and the training curriculum was applied to both groups over a period of 8 weeks, with 3 training sessions per week. The researcher concluded that the training …

The Effect Of Jumping Running And Weight Training (With Own Weight) On The Track In Developing Strength Endurance, Speed-Strength Endurance, And 800 Meter Running Performance For Juniors Aged 16-18 Years., Amer Fakher Shaghati, Israa Fouad Alois
Modern Sport
The study focuses on training methods that play a significant role in developing specific endurance, particularly strength endurance and speed-strength endurance, which are essential physical attributes for athletes in various sports. These qualities allow athletes to maintain effort over prolonged periods without a decline in performance. The problem addressed in the research stems from the observed stagnation in the performance of 800-meter run times for the target age group, especially when compared to regional and international records. As a result, the study aims to improve these performance gaps by enhancing strength endurance and speed-strength endurance using two training methods: jumping …

Using Physical Exercises To Develop Strength Tolerance And Its Impact On The Concentration Of The Enzyme ( Ldh) In Basketball Players, Muzaffar Abdullah Shafiq, Zainab Mezher Khalaf
Modern Sport
This research highlights the importance of implementing appropriate physical exercises during pregnancy, as prescribed by trainers, to enhance energy availability and support physiological adaptation among players. These exercises contribute to optimal performance and influence enzymes associated with stress responses, such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in the blood. The research addresses the problem of insufficient physical preparation, which manifests as weaknesses in physiological and biochemical functions, ultimately limiting players' performance potential. The study aimed to develop a set of exercises tailored for basketball players and assess their impact on LDH enzyme concentrations through pre- and post-testing. The hypotheses proposed that there …

Time-Lag And Business. On Non-Economic Determinants Of Economic Parameters, Marek Goliszewski
Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski
The system of law enactment in Poland is flawed. It should be based on consultations between the government and non-governmental communities and institutions. One of the tools of such consultations, i.e. social dialogue, is the Tri-partite Commission for Socio-Economic Issues. It was supposed to constitute a plane for communication between the government, trade unions and employers. Its existence at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy proved to be ineffective. Also lack of ability to conduct conversations and negotiations, which would serve to develop arrangements — agreements which, in turn, would become the basis for formulating statutes — does not …
