Huntsman Professors Find Ways To Make “Green” More Macho, Usu Jon M. Huntsman School Of Business

Jon M. Huntsman School of Business News Collection

Last spring, Huntsman marketing professors Cathy Hartman and Edwin Stafford got a chuckle over an Ogilvy Earth study that found green was too pink. Specifically, the ad agency reported that men, in general, resist environmentally-preferable behaviors and products, such as carrying reusable shopping bags at the supermarket, drinking from reusable water bottles, or driving gas-electric hybrid Priuses, because they perceive environmentalism as inherently too feminine.

Zozal V. Israel Prison Service Commissioner, Esther Hayut, Miriam Naor, Uzi Vogelman, Salim Joubran, Eliezer Rivlin, Neal Hendel, Yoram Danziger

Translated Opinions

Facts: The petitioner began working at the Israel Prison Service (“the IPS”) in 1986. In April of 2009, two months after her fifty-seventh birthday, she was forced to retire. At this age, she was already six months past what was defined in the Civil Service Retirement Law, 5730-1970, as the “retirement age for IPS wardens.” According to the IPS procedures relating to IPS employees of her age and experience, her continued employment after that age was dependent on approval by the IPS Commissioner (following a recommendation made by an internal committee). Such extensions of employment past the “retirement age for …

The Relationship Of Multimodal Executive Function Measurement And Associated Neuroanatomical Factors In Preschoolers Born Very Low Birth Weight And Full Term, Susanne Duvall

Psychology ETDs

Objective: The current study investigated executive function (EF) in preschoolers born very low birth weight (VLBW) and full term by examining the dimensionality of EF and the relationship between multimodal measures of EF. Additionally, we investigated the neuroanatomical factors that may relate to EF in this population. Participants and methods: The sample included 101 preschoolers: 61 VLBW and 40 full term (mean=45.98 months (SD=5.05). EF measures included: Bear Dragon, Gift Touch, Gift Peek, Progressive Executive Categorization Battery, parent rated EF (BRIEF-P), and Child Compliance observational coding. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data were analyzed through voxel-based morphometry (VBM) for a subset …

Keeping Faith : Factors Contributing To Spiritual Transformation, Identity, And Maturity In Church-Attending Adolescents, Glory Emmanuel

Psychology ETDs

The current research study investigated factors associated with spiritual development among church-attending adolescents. Eighty five participants (12 — 19 years) attending church youth groups in the Albuquerque area were asked to complete a questionnaire measuring spiritual transformation, identity, and maturity as well as demographics, personality, religious social support, and personal devotional activities. The purpose of this research was to understand how religious social support (family, friends, church, mentorship) and personal devotional activities (prayer, worship, study of sacred texts) were related to a spiritual transformation experience, spiritual identity, and spiritual maturity. It was hypothesized that adolescents who reported having had a …

Clinician Empathic Speech And Client Change Language : Is There An Association Between Empathic Speech And Change Talk In Motivational Interviewing Sessions?, Daniel Fischer Aug 2012

Clinician Empathic Speech And Client Change Language : Is There An Association Between Empathic Speech And Change Talk In Motivational Interviewing Sessions?, Daniel Fischer

Psychology ETDs

Empathy is the state of knowing or being aware of another persons perspective and the ability to express empathy is acknowledged as an important component within effective psychotherapy. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a specific method of psychotherapy in which clinician expressions of empathy are held to be an active ingredient and a central component of effective practice. Although empathy has long been a part of the theoretical explanation of effective MI, there is little known about the function of empathy as expressed by the clinician and the association between such in-session speech and client change language. This study identified the …

The Effects Of A Sexual Victimization History, Sexual Attitudes, And Ethnicity On Women's Sexual Assault Scripts, Kari Leiting

Psychology ETDs

This study examined the effects of a sexual victimization history, sexual attitudes, ethnicity, and proximity of past sexual assault on womens hypothetical sexual assault scripts. It also compared previously sexually victimized women's hypothetical sexual assault scripts to their actual assault narratives. Two hundred forty-seven undergraduate women wrote hypothetical sexual assault scripts describing an unwanted sexual experience and completed measures assessing the individual differences variables of interest. Women who reported a victimization history then wrote about their assault experience while women who did not report such history wrote about a bad date or 'hook-up' experience. A coding manual was developed and …
