This paper, a shortened version of an article which will be published in the Northern Illinois University Law Review in Fall 2024, aims to reframe the debate over how best to address the enormous financial and social costs of a criminal justice system which relies on traditional, brick-and-mortar prisons to control criminal behavior.

At the same time, AI offers new possibilities for smaller and traditionally marginalized shareholders. Glassy Magnetic Freezing Of Interacting Clusters In Materials Related To The Lk-99 Family, Serafim Teknowijoyo, Domenico Napoletani, Vahan Nikoghosyan, Armen Gulian

We report reproducible magnetization anomalies appearing below room temperature in copper-doped apatite materials belonging to the LK-99 family synthesized via hydrothermal methods. These anomalies are observed consistently across samples prepared under comparable conditions. Although the extracted Mydosh parameter lies within the range often associated with vortex-glass behavior in superconductors, a detailed analysis of DC magnetization, AC susceptibility, field dependence, and magnetic memory effects demonstrates that the observed phenomena are not related to superconductivity. Instead, the data are consistent with glassy magnetic freezing of interacting clusters. Background. First-year undergraduate nursing students often struggle to adapt their learning strategies to the higher-order thinking and clinical reasoning demands of nursing education. Ineffective study habits, low academic self-efficacy, and limited self-regulated learning (SRL) skills are consistently identified as predictors of attrition, which ranges from 20–50% nationally and internationally.

Purpose. At an academic medical center in rural East Texas, first-semester students report academic overwhelm and inadequate study strategies, consistent with national trends. A structured, evidence-based faculty coaching intervention targeting SRL and metacognition was found to be feasible within the collaborative, student-centered organizational culture.

Existing approaches offer valuable but often isolated explanations of conflict behavior, limiting their ability to account for its complexity. This thesis addresses this limitation by advancing systems science as an organizing framework for integrating these perspectives. Innate immunity is increasingly recognized as a driver of neurodegeneration, although pathogenic mechanisms are incompletely understood. Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is an inflammatory myeloid neoplastic disorder caused by activating somatic mutations in MAPK pathway genes, most commonly BRAFV600E, in myeloid precursors. A subset of patients with LCH develop progressive neurodegeneration (LCH-ND). We generated a human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) model from patients with somatic hematologic mosaicism for BRAFV600E. Brain macrophages/microglia from LCH iPSCs exhibit unique disease-specific pathogenic features. Stepwise differentiation identified hematopoietic progenitors as hyperproliferative, whereas brain macrophages were apoptosis resistant. Through application of cerebral organoids and a humanized …

Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) remains a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare utilization worldwide despite substantial therapeutic advances. Over the past three decades, randomized clinical trials have established four foundational pharmacologic pillars of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT): renin–angiotensin system inhibition or angiotensin receptor–neprilysin inhibition, evidence-based beta-blockers, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors. However, real-world implementation of these therapies remains suboptimal.

A Tax Residency Certificate (‘TRC’) is an essential document enabling non-residents to claim tax treaty benefits in India. However, whether a TRC is sufficient in order to claim such benefits has been the subject matter of litigation, particularly in cases involving treaty shopping/tax fraud allegations. The Supreme Court in the case of Azadi Bachao Andolan endorsed the Government’s circulars, which gave primacy to TRCs while evaluating the tax residency of non-residents. This research explores SMU’s undergraduate students in their own identities and romantic relationships in the realm of the bisexuality spectrum using the Kinsey Scale. I developed a 46-item online survey comprised of six component parts, which incorporated previous scales of Kinsey, Consensual Non-Monogamy, Self-Acceptance of Sexuality Inventory, and Experience in Close Relationships scales, to measure respondents’ sense of attraction and preferences as well as attachment scales and assess the participants’ relationship beliefs pertaining to consensual non-monogamy. This paper proposes to solve the challenge of making databases more user-friendly by interfacing them with OpenAI's ChatGPT-3.5 model. We implemented this solution to assist researchers in easily finding others with similar research interests. Our study involves 184 researchers from 14 departments at Southern Methodist University (SMU). We collected researchers' areas of expertise and biographies and stored them in a Neo4j graph database. We used OpenAI's embedding models to create vector representations of the collected data, allowing for accurate similarity assessments via Neo4j's built-in algorithms.
