The Identification Of Leadership Strategies Among Leaders Of Successful Mergers Or Acquisitions, Andrew F. Luce

Theses and Graduate Projects

This project investigates the leadership strategies used by leaders of successful mergers or acquisitions. Fifteen current or former Augsburg MAL students who have participated in a merger or acquisition were interviewed for this report. A significant cross section of Upper Midwest industries was represented as well as diverse segments of management among the interviewees.

Key techniques used by leaders include town-hall style meetings, integration or transition teams, employee panels and internal social media. Leader behaviors using these mediums govern the successful dissemination of vital information and the integration or creation of new corporate cultures. Effective leaders understand mergers or acquisitions …

Mathematical Model And Experimental Exploration Of The Nanoinjector Lance Array, Nathan C. Toone Jul 2012

Mathematical Model And Experimental Exploration Of The Nanoinjector Lance Array, Nathan C. Toone

Theses and Dissertations

The Nanoinjector Lance Array has been developed to inject foreign material into thousands of cells at once using electrophoresis to attract and repel particles to and from the electrically-charged lances. A mathematical computer model simulating the motion of attracted or repelled proteins informs the design of the nanoinjection lance array system. The model is validated by accurately predicting protein velocity in electrophoresis experiments. A complete analysis of parameters is conducted via simulations and specific research questions regarding the counter electrode of the nanoinjector lance array system are explored using the model. A novel technique for fabricating lance arrays from collapsed …

International Law And The Limits Of Macroeconomic Cooperation, Alan O. Sykes, Eric A. Posner Jul 2012

International Law And The Limits Of Macroeconomic Cooperation, Alan O. Sykes, Eric A. Posner

Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series

The macroeconomic policies of states can produce significant costs and benefits for other states, yet international macroeconomic cooperation has been one of the weakest areas of international law. We ask why states have had such trouble cooperating over macroeconomic issues, when they have been relatively successful at cooperation over other economic matters such as international trade. We argue that although the theoretical benefits of macroeconomic cooperation are real, in practice it is difficult to sustain because optimal cooperative policies are often uncertain and time variant, making it exceedingly difficult to craft clear rules for cooperation in many areas. It is …

Using individual interviews, this study investigated perceptions of classroom misbehaviors among secondary school students in Hong Kong (N = 18). Nineteen categories of classroom misbehaviors were identified, with talking out of turn, disrespecting teacher, and doing something in private being most frequently mentioned. Findings revealed that students tended to perceive misbehaviors as those actions inappropriate in the classroom settings and even disrupting teachers' teaching and other students' learning. Among various misbehaviors, talking out of turn and disrespecting teacher were seen as the most disruptive and unacceptable. These misbehaviors were unacceptable because they disturbed teaching and learning, and violated the values …

Jember Fashion Carnival: Konstruksi Identitas Dalam Masyarakat Jaringan, Raudlatul Jannah

Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi

This research focuses on the construction of Jember city identity in the network society era. This research revealed that the construction process of Jember city identity is complex. By using Manuel Castells’ theory about territorial identity especially in network society, this paper intends to interpret Jember Fashion Carnival (JFC) as a project identity in the discourse of network society. The findings show that JFC does not only negotiate Jember city identity but also practice logic of network society. It can be seen by the way that media can change JFC as a fashion carnival into a project of Jember city …

Foreword To Entrepreneurship And Innovation In Evolving Economies: The Role Of Law, Franklin G. Snyder Jul 2012

Foreword To Entrepreneurship And Innovation In Evolving Economies: The Role Of Law, Franklin G. Snyder

Faculty Scholarship

Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Evolving Economies examines the role of law in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in communities whose economies are in transition. It contains a collection of works from different perspectives and tackles tough questions regarding policy and practice, including how support for entrepreneurship can be translated into policy. Additionally, this collection addresses more concrete questions of practical efficacy, including measures of how successful or unsuccessful legal efforts to incentivize entrepreneurship may be, through intellectual property law and otherwise, and what might define success to begin with.

Fishing for channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) is popular in Nebraska and channel catfish are the most sought after fish species in the Platte River. Anglers on the Platte River are also harvest oriented. Little is known about the effects anglers have on channel catfish population dynamics in the lower Platte River. The goal of this study was to determine if there were effects of angling on channel catfish at two high use fishing areas in the lower Platte River. My first objective was to evaluate differences in relative abundance, size structure, condition, age structure, growth, and mortality between …
