Parental Distress Responding To Adolescent Negative Emotionality: Influence On Anxiety And Depression Symptom Severity And Treatment Outcome, Cara Suzanne Remmes Jul 2012

Parental Distress Responding To Adolescent Negative Emotionality: Influence On Anxiety And Depression Symptom Severity And Treatment Outcome, Cara Suzanne Remmes

Open Access Theses

Anxiety and depressive disorders result from a complex interaction of genetic and environmental influences over time. Parental behavior in the context of a child’s internalizing distress, although only one of many interacting factors, may be important to understanding the etiology of anxiety and depressive disorders. Specifically, how a parent responds to their child’s emotions and youth attempts at emotion regulation may influence subsequent child emotion coping through both operant conditioning and observational learning. However, the impact of a parent’s own emotion regulation strategies on youth anxiety and depression has not been well-examined nor has the influence of parent’s emotion regulation …

Flame Synthesis Of Iron Oxide Nanowires For Direct Coal Chemical Looping Combustion, And Tungsten Oxide Nanowires For Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting, Pratap Rao Jul 2012

Flame Synthesis Of Iron Oxide Nanowires For Direct Coal Chemical Looping Combustion, And Tungsten Oxide Nanowires For Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting, Pratap Rao

Link Foundation Energy Fellowship Reports

The applications of metal oxide NWs are limited because conventional synthesis methods cannot achieve the scalable, rapid, controllable and economical synthesis of high-quality metal oxide NWs. In the present work, two novel methods for the flame synthesis of metal oxide NWs are developed, and the resulting nanowires tested for two promising, emerging energy conversion technologies: 1) Direct Coal Chemical Looping Combustion, and 2) Photoelectrochemical watersplitting. These synthesis methods are rapid, atmospheric, controllable and scalable, result in highly pure and crystalline materials, and could greatly extend the applicability of metal oxide nanowires to largescale energy conversion and storage problems.

Reisurance: The Silent Regulator?, Aviva Abramovsky Jul 2012

Reisurance: The Silent Regulator?, Aviva Abramovsky

College of Law - Faculty Scholarship

Abstract This Essay suggests that a discussion on insurance regulation should include a consideration of the effect reinsurance may have on the behavior of insurers. The Essay reviews the traditional types of reinsurance, and considers the ability of private reinsurance contracts to produce insurer action. This essay suggests if reinsurance is not included in a holistic examination of the field, its realities have the capacity to misdirect insurance regulatory assumptions. Moreover, reinsurance works as a source of independent and often unexamined contractual influence on insurer activity, and as a potential source of interference with regulatory proposals. Even though reinsurance is …

The Sixth Amendment's Textual Core, Sanjay K. Chhablani Jul 2012

The Sixth Amendment's Textual Core, Sanjay K. Chhablani

College of Law - Faculty Scholarship

The Sixth Amendment, framed in an atmosphere of deep mistrust of a potentially oppressive government, broadly requires that defendants be provided seven fundamental procedural protections. Over the course of the past five decades, the scope and meaning of these critical safeguards have undergone tremendous change, with series of expansive and restrictive readings. Through this jurisprudential development, several provisions of the Sixth Amendment have been interpreted in a manner that contravenes the plain meaning of its text, rendering the Amendment far less protective of individual liberty. After developing a comprehensive historical account of the Court’s Sixth Amendment jurisprudence, this Article provides …
