The Role Of Interactivity In Interent Business On Customer Experiential Values And Behavioral Intentions, So Ra Park
The Role Of Interactivity In Interent Business On Customer Experiential Values And Behavioral Intentions, So Ra Park
College of Business: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Customers’ experiential value is based on holistic experience customers would have when they interact with a product/service. Experiential value is defined as “relativistic preference characterizing a subject’s experience with some object” (Holbrook, 1994). Internet is characterized for interactivity and it should have a role in customers’ experiential value. Therefore, this research investigates the role of interactivity (e-store interaction, C2C interaction, and content interaction) and web store utility on intrinsic and extrinsic customer experiential value. The final dependent variable is behavioral intentions. To test the research model, a survey was designed to capture online consumers’ perception of interactivity within e-stores, experiential …

Physiological And Morphological Variation In A Stream Salamander, Desmognathus Brimleyorum, Vanessa K Hilliard Young
Theses and Dissertations
Habitats vary in their biotic and abiotic components across space and time. Variability can introduce challenges for organisms unless they have the ability to alter their physiology in a way that maximizes fitness in a variable habitat. My thesis investigated the physiological and morphological responses of the stream salamander Desmignathus brimleyorum to variations in thermal and physical habitat characteristics. Chapter one concentrates on changes in metabolic response and swimming performance of salamanders exposed to differing thermal treatments and tests the predictions of the optimal acclimation theory. Chapter two investigates differences in swimming performance with respect to tail morphology, as well …

Growing up in a home with many objects from the past, I began to take an interest in my family's past, first speaking with my parents and grandparents, and then exploring as many old family photographs as I could. I saw many familiar faces at different points in time, and learned the names of those I had never seen before, realizing they too, were family. I was also struck by the mystery these photographs represented. They were products of another era, an older technology. As such, time had visibly acted upon them. The images themselves had become vague, abstracted by …
Investigation Of The Centrifugal Force Effect To A Revolving Vane (Rv) Machine, Alison Subiantoro, Kim Tiow Ooi
Investigation Of The Centrifugal Force Effect To A Revolving Vane (Rv) Machine, Alison Subiantoro, Kim Tiow Ooi
International Compressor Engineering Conference
The Revolving Vane (RV) machine is unique because the cylinder rotates together with the rotor at their respective axis. This causes various unique behaviors that are not previously observed in the conventional rotary machines. In this paper, the effects of the centrifugal force to the behavior of the machine are investigated. It is found that the centrifugal force affects the average output torque through the shaft bearing load and friction loss. Interestingly, if the center of mass is set properly, the centrifugal force can help to offset the pressure force acting at the shaft. This helps to reduce the bearing …
Comparing Fem Transfer Matrix Simulated Compressor Plenum Pressure Pulsations To Measured Pressure Pulsations And To Cfd Results, Keith Novak, Jack Sauls
Comparing Fem Transfer Matrix Simulated Compressor Plenum Pressure Pulsations To Measured Pressure Pulsations And To Cfd Results, Keith Novak, Jack Sauls
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Improving efficiency of positive displacement compressors requires improving current computer compressor simulations to better model compressor behavior. This paper will specifically look at increasing fidelity of the 1D thermodynamic compressor simulation program by incorporating suction and discharge pulsations due to complex suction and discharge three dimensional (3D) plenum geometry. This method allows for quick pressure pulsation analysis and enables the design engineer to make changes early in the compressor development cycle. Finite Element Method (FEM) full harmonic analysis is used to calculate suction or discharge plenum’s impedance transfer functions in the frequency domain. The impedance transfer functions are normalized to …
Gas Pulsations: A Shock Tube Mechanism, Paul Xiubao Huang
Gas Pulsations: A Shock Tube Mechanism, Paul Xiubao Huang
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Gas pulsations are defined presently as a macro flow rate and/or pressure fluctuation with relatively low frequency and high amplitude. They commonly exist in HVACR, energy and other processing industries, and are widely accepted to be mainly caused by PD type gas machinery such as reciprocating or rotary compressors, expanders and Roots type blowers. Moreover, they are believed to be responsible for system vibrations, noises and fatigue failures. Naturally, as important a matter as gas pulsations, there have been tremendous R/D efforts from both academia and industry focused in this area, especially since the late 1980s. The most well known …

Non-Uniform Clearance Between Rotor Surfaces And Its Effect On Machine Performance In Twin-Screw Compressors, Hsiang-Hui Hsiao, Yu-Ren Wu, Ho-Chun Hsieh
International Compressor Engineering Conference
The performance of twin-screw compressors is primarily affected by the clearance between a pair of meshing rotors. This study proposes a method for calculating the normal clearance along the contact line between rotors using two normal rack curves, which are conjugated with the male and female rotors. The clearance distribution results are then compared using the HOLROYD profile management system (HPMS) software to verify their accuracy. Additionally, non-uniform clearance along the contact line between rotor surfaces is included in the compressor performance calculation to assess its influence on the flow leakage and volumetric efficiency.
Theoretical And Experimental Analysis Of The Superheating In Heat Pump Compressors, Jose Nilton Fonseca, Rodrigo Kremer, Thiago Dutra
Theoretical And Experimental Analysis Of The Superheating In Heat Pump Compressors, Jose Nilton Fonseca, Rodrigo Kremer, Thiago Dutra
International Compressor Engineering Conference
In a conventional cooling system, refrigerant superheating inside the compressor is largely responsible for overall energy losses, increasing the compression specific work and decreasing the cooling capacity. In heat pump applications, superheating not only affects the compression loss, but also the specific heating capacity of the system, since the inlet temperature of the condenser depends on the final temperature of compression. Kremer et al. (2011) proposed a new approach to identify and understand the superheating losses in compressors submitted to heat pump applications. In this paper, a more accurate approach is proposed and the effects of refrigerant superheating are analyzed …

A Numerical Simulation Of Fluid-Structure Interaction For Flow Through Valves Of A Hermetic Compressor With Immersed Boundary Method., Aditya Mushyam, Josep M. Bergada
International Compressor Engineering Conference
The aim of the paper is to simulate numerically the Fluid-Structure Interaction for flow through valves of a hermetic compressor using immersed boundary method. The paper is primarily concerned with the mathematical structure and implementation of the Immersed Boundary Method which includes both the Immersed Boundary form of the equations of motion and also the Immersed Boundary numerical Scheme. The flow pattern of the fluid in the compressor is intimately connected with the performance of the valves, and this paper presents a solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in 2D of a Newtonian fluid under laminar regime, in the presence of …

Thermal Modelling For The Motor In Semi-Hermetic Screw Refrigeration Compressor Under Part-Load Conditions, Wenqing Chen, Jiubing Shen, Zhilong He, Huagen Wu, Ziwen Xing
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Semi-hermetic screw refrigeration compressor is mostly driven by a three phase asynchronous induction motor with its squirrel cage rotor attached to the shaft of the compressor helical male rotor. The motor is cooled by low temperature refrigerant coming from evaporator before it is inspired into compressor suction port. In order to investigate cooling effects of the motor and performance of the compressor under part-load conditions, a lumped parameter model describing heat transfer characteristics inside the motor and a part-load model of screw refrigeration compressor are developed. Heating effects at compressor suction end are taken into account and nodes representing refrigerant …
Performance Of The Use Of Plastics In Oil-Free Scroll Compressors, Bryce R. Shaffer, Eckhard A. Groll
Performance Of The Use Of Plastics In Oil-Free Scroll Compressors, Bryce R. Shaffer, Eckhard A. Groll
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Manufacturing cost of high precision scroll compressor parts remains a dominating factor in determining the overall production cost. Traditionally, scroll compressors are made of metallic parts which require high tolerances to avoid leakage. Precision is even more important when the compressor is designed for oil-free operation and metal to metal contact can potentially be detrimental to the overall performance. With implementation of non-metallic compressor parts such as plastics, various avenues such as injection molding can be taken to reduce production cost. In addition, various polymer blends can be chosen to alleviate the danger of contact through the use of self-lubricating …

Simulation Of Reciprocating Compressor Start-Up And Shut Down Under Loaded And Unloaded Conditions, Vasillaq Kacani
International Compressor Engineering Conference
During the start-up and shut down phase of reciprocating compressors the loads on all components of driven train system are very high. In this paper a method for the calculating the forces on coupling, e-motor, crank shaft as well other components of the system will be described. The modelling of the electrical induction motor, coupling, crank shaft, damper as well as the compressor resistance torque are extremely important in simulating start-up and shut down of reciprocating compressor. Equally important, are the switching torque of the electrical motor and the instantaneous moment of inertia of the reciprocating compressor crank gear. The …

Nearfield Acoustical Holography Research & Application On Compressor & Refrigerator, Xu Jianwen, Fabian Fagotti, Weikang Jiang
International Compressor Engineering Conference
In this paper, an algebraic formulation which expresses the dimensionless rate of entropy generation as a function of the heat exchanger geometry (number of transfer units), the thermal-hydraulic characteristics (friction factor and Colburn j-factor), and the operating conditions (heat transfer duty, core velocity, coil surface temperature, and fluid properties) is derived. It is shown that for heat exchanger with constant wall temperature (i.e., condensers and evaporators), there does exist a particular number of transfer units which minimizes the dimensionless rate of entropy generation. An algebraic expression for the optimum heat exchanger effectiveness, based on the working conditions, heat exchanger geometry …

Theoretical And Experimental Study Of Signal Processing Techniques For Measuring Hermetic Compressor Speed Through Pressure And Current Signals, Miguel Burg Demay, Carlos A. Flesch, Rodolfo C. C. Flesch, Cesar A. Penz, André P. Rosa
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Measuring means extracting information from acquired signals. Either in the frequency or in the time, mathematical processing tools are applied to get information from measurement signals. It is usual, when processing measurement signals in the frequency domain, the application of Fourier analysis, mainly through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithms. Nevertheless, there are other digital signal processing tools that can overcome FFT performance in computation time or accuracy, and they can be very useful when extracting information from measurement signals. This paper presents some powerful mathematical tools and it shows how useful they can be, when measuring hermetic compressor speed through …

Study On Iron Loss In Two Kinds Of Moving-Magnet Linear Motors, Longyi Wang, Chao Xiong, Yinong Wu, Zhihua Gan
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Linear motors are widely used in cryogenic fields to drive Stirling-type cryocoolers. Generally the Joule heat loss associated with copper lead is considered as the main loss in motors while the iron loss is ignored at a lower frequency operation, not only because it’s regarded as small enough but also it’s difficult to measure or calculate. This paper introduces an experimental method to measure the iron loss for linear motors. Two kinds of moving-magnet linear motors have been tested, one is known as single coil and magnet linear motor, and the other as double coils and magnets linear motor. Dependence …

Use Of A Low-Mach Model On A Cfd&Ht Solver For The Elements Of An Object Oriented Program To Numerically Simulate Hermetic Refrigeration Compressors, López Mas Joan, Lehmkuhl Oriol, Rigola Joaquim, Carlos D. Pérez-Segarra
International Compressor Engineering Conference
A powerful object oriented approach for the simulation of generic thermal systems (Damle et al., 2008) is used as a framework to numerically simulate the thermal and fluid behavior of hermetic reciprocating compressors. A physical abstraction of the compressor system provides a vertex-edge graph, defining the elements and the neighborhood relations of the system to be solved. Each one of these resulting elements is modeled in order to be solved by itself by giving their respective boundary conditions. Since each element provides its own solver tool, the coupled system can be solved in an integrated form. Into previous works, an …

Development Of High Efficiency Rotary Compressor By Adopting A New Manufacturing Method., Masao Tani, Toshinori Arai, Taro Kato
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Reduction of leakage loss by reducing the height of the cylinder is an effective method to improve efficiency in a rotary compressor. There are, however, few challenges we must face by doing so. Below are some problems for reducing the height of the cylinder. 1) In order to keep the same stroke volume, the diameter of the rolling piston needs to be reduced. This change will create a space between M. plate and the compression chamber. 2)Due to the reduction of the area of suction mass flow passage, compression loss at suction side will increase. In order to solve this …
The Condition Monitoring Of An Upstream Oil And Gas Dry Screw Compressor Drive Train And Its Impact On The Control System., William James Milligan
The Condition Monitoring Of An Upstream Oil And Gas Dry Screw Compressor Drive Train And Its Impact On The Control System., William James Milligan
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Variable speed oil free screw compressors can be used in upstream oil and gas applications such as gas collection and flare gas recovery. The critical nature of these applications is such that the owners closely monitor the drive train of the package as long un-planned stoppages are extremely expensive. If any of the monitored parameters start to deviate from the norm then shut-downs and services can be scheduled in a timely manner preventing costly stoppages. This paper first describes the parameters monitored on the drive train as required by the international standards used by the oil and gas companies. The …

Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication Effect In Thrust-Slide Bearings Of Scroll Compressors, Noriaki Ishii, Takuma Tsuji, Tatsuya Oku, Keiko Anami, Takashi Morimoto
International Compressor Engineering Conference
This paper presents the concept of the Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) effect for the thrust slide-bearings in scroll compressors, which accounts for the superior lubrication characteristics of these bearings. The thrust plate undergoes elastic deformation due to axial loading, resulting in the formation of a fluid wedge between the orbiting and fixed thrust plates, a region with very high induced oil film pressure which, in turn, accounts for the remarkably good lubrication characteristics of the thrust slide-bearing. Furthermore, the high oil film pressure induces further elastic deformation of the thrust plate, which forms a lubrication pocket with the thrust plate, more …

The Experimental And Simulation Analysis Of The Transmission Loss Of The Muffler In The Rotary Compressor, Rongting Zhang, Huanhuan Gu, Jia Xu
International Compressor Engineering Conference
The discharge muffler of the rotary compressor is used to reduce the discharge noise produced by pressure pulsations. In order to obtain the transmission loss of discharge muffler, four microphone experimental devices used to measure the transmission loss of the muffler is established. The device is based on the transfer function method on the assumption that there is only plane wave in the tube, thus the measurement range of the device is discussed at the same time. Then the transmission loss of a contraction chamber is measured and calculated theoretically and the validity of the experimental device is verified through …

At the same time, Oil discharge rate in rotary compressor at different operating conditions has been calculated in this paper.
Internal Cooling Of The Piston Rod In Non-Lubricated Piston Compressors, Christiane Hammer, Gotthard Will, Ullrich Hesse
Internal Cooling Of The Piston Rod In Non-Lubricated Piston Compressors, Christiane Hammer, Gotthard Will, Ullrich Hesse
International Compressor Engineering Conference
In non-lubricated piston compressors the wear of the piston rod packing rings is still a problem that needs to be considered. Due to the demands of high gas pressure and leak-tight sealing the frictional heat of the rings is causing high temperatures in the area of the piston rod packing. High temperatures are – among other factors – one reason for an increase of wear and thus for a lifetime reduction of the packing. To increase this lifetime – and so to increase the time between two technical services – the idea of an internal cooling of the piston rod …

A Numerical Study Of Convective Heat Transfer In The Compression Chambers Of Scroll Compressors, Evandro L. L. Pereira, Cesar J. Deschamps
International Compressor Engineering Conference
Convective heat transfer in the compression chambers of scroll compressors affects important quantities associated with the compression cycle, such as the volumetric efficiency and the discharge gas temperature. In spite of its relevance, heat transfer in scroll compressors has not been sufficiently studied mainly due to difficulties associated with its geometry. This paper presents a numerical model developed to predict the convective heat transfer in the compression chambers of scroll compressors, by applying the finite volume method to solve the conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy. An equation of state for real gas was also considered to complete the …
