Identification Of Two Functional Sumo Interacting Motifs (Sims) In The Non-Structural Protein Of Influenza A Virus Ns1a, Lorellie M. Lewis, German Rosas-Acosta

We have previously shown that the non-structural protein of Influenza A virus NS1A is post-translationally modified by conjugation of the Small Ubiquitin-like MOdifier (SUMO). Our functional studies have also demonstrated that SUMO conjugation (SUMOylation) affects NS1A's ability to neutralize the cellular interferon response of the host cell and other functions associated to NS1A. Importantly, we have also shown that influenza infections trigger a global increase in cellular SUMOylation and have recently demonstrated that such an increase is mediated by NS1A. This observation led us to investigate the molecular mechanism endowing NS1A with the ability to increase global cellular SUMOylation. Sequence …

LEDGF/p75 is a transcriptional coactivator required for efficient lentiviral cDNA integration. LEDGF/p75 has been found to be SUMOylated at four lysine residues, and mutation of these residues to arginine inhibits LEDGF/p75 SUMOylation and impairs the HIV-cofactor activity of this protein. However, we still do not understand how SUMOylation influences the HIV cofactor activity of LEDGF/p75. It has been demonstrated that attachment of SUMO to transcription factors in a non-sequence specific fashion recapitulates the effect of sequence-specific SUMOylation on the activity of these proteins. Relational Frame Theory research involves either of two protocols utilized to establish relational networks and functions for stimuli in those relational networks. Years of research indicate the most prevalent method involves first establishing a relational frame, conditioning one of the stimuli to acquire a particular function, and then providing a test to see if the function trained to one of the stimuli in the network transferred through the relational network to other stimuli. In the past two decades, there has been an increased demand for more innovative individuals and organizations. In response to this need, a number of groups have begun to teach innovation courses to improve people's innovation skills. While many of these groups report success in helping people become more innovative, there is no way to test the effectiveness of the innovation courses. This study describes the development and initial validation of an innovation test instrument. It demonstrates how the author identified the content domain of the test and created test items. Analytical Thermal Model Of Friction Stir Welding With Spatially Distributed Heat Source, Gordon Scott Reese

Friction stir welding (FSW) has been studied extensively for the past two decades. Thermal modeling has been of particular interest, as the quality of the weld is dependent upon the temperature history of the work piece during the process. Since direct temperature measurements of the welded zone are not possible, an analytical model was developed to predict the temperature in this area. This model requires parameters that cannot be easily experimentally determined, so a best fit for these parameters was acquired via regression analysis by comparing the model to experimental data acquired outside of the weld zone. We begin with an overview of some signal processing terms and topics relevant to music analysis including facts about human sound perception. We then discuss common objectives of music analysis and existing methods for accomplishing them. We conclude with an introduction to a new method of automatically transcribing a piece of music from a digital audio signal.

Parowan Fremont Faunal Exploitation: Resource Depression Or Feasting?, Sara E. Stauffer

The faunal remains of large game such as mule deer, pronghorn, and mountain sheep are abundant at Fremont sites, as are jackrabbits and cottontails. The proportions of these species in Fremont faunal assemblages fluctuate through time. Explanations for these variations range from resource depression to communal activities. This thesis provides the results of the faunal analysis from three previously unreported sites. Paragonah (42IN43), Summit (42IN40), and Parowan (42IN100) are large Fremont sites in the Parowan Valley located 20 miles north of Cedar City in Utah. Timber harvesting has been shown to have both positive and negative effects on forest dwelling species. We examined the immediate effects of timber harvests (clearcuts and group selection openings) on ectotherm behavior, using the eastern box turtle as a model. We monitored the movement and thermal ecology of 50 adult box turtles using radiotelemetry from May–October for two years prior to, and two years following scheduled timber harvests in the Central Hardwoods Region of the U.S. Annual home ranges (7.45 ha, 100% MCP) did not differ in any year or in response to timber harvests, but were 33% larger than …

Research has established an indirect influence between school principals and student achievement on standardized tests. This paper considers how to measure the relationships between teacher and principal perceptions of four dimensions of principal leadership in New Mexicos K-12 schools—setting a shared vision, developing a culture of learning, managing resources, and collaborating with the community—and student scaled score growth over four years on New Mexico's standards-based assessments. Using two valid, reliable survey instruments, data was electronically collected from 437 teachers and 41 principals; aggregate reading and math scaled scores were also collected for all students in these 41 schools.
