Home Health Care Nursing Application Of The Transtheoretical Model Of Change To Patients With Congestive Heart Failure: A Case Study, Wyona M. Freysteinson
Home Health Care Nursing Application Of The Transtheoretical Model Of Change To Patients With Congestive Heart Failure: A Case Study, Wyona M. Freysteinson
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The World Health Organization defines CHF as a global burden. In the United States, many home care patients are over 65 years of age, live in poverty and have CHF. One of the roles of home care is to educate patients on health care behaviors which may improve their health status. Following this education, nurses reassess patients and determine if patients have changed health patterns. A literature search yielded many research studies of patients with disease states frequently seen in home care which were grounded in the Transtheoretical Model of Change (TTM). Based on these studies, TTM was piloted by …

Self-Care While Caring For Others As A Strategy To Improve Reflection And Clarity Of Self, John W. Nelson
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
This 2-hospital system, which includes one of the first fifteen hospitals to achieve and sustain Magnet certification in the USA, began implementation of Relationship Based Care (RBC) three years ago. According to the concepts of RBC, employees must have clarity in their own strengths and vulnerabilities as they execute their role in caring for others. The challenge within the current pace and intensity of healthcare is the environment and employees do not pause long enough to support self-reflection for employees to establish or maintain clarity of self as they care for others. Thus, the organization implemented and tested interventions to …

Caring For Pregnant Smokers: Nurses' Views On Cessation Interventions, Adele M. Spegman, Andrea A. Wary, Leslie A. Laam
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: Smoking during pregnancy is a significant yet modifiable risk that negatively affects maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. Practice standards recommend assessment of tobacco use at each prenatal visit, consistent messages and action plans that relate to women's readiness to quit (ACOG, 2010). Despite public health initiatives and targeted interventions, the 12- 20% of pregnant women who self-report smoking is considered a significant underestimate of the actual prevalence (Shipton, 2009). Little is reported about the outcomes of nursing cessation interventions. This study examined prenatal nurses' views and experiences with smoking cessation.
Methods: The observational design drew on Artinian's Intersystem …
