Enhancement Of Compressive Arch Action In Thick Precast And Post-Tensioned Primary Beam Under A Middle Column Removal Scenario, Manh Ha Tran
CIB Conferences
Previous studies have shown that compressive arch action (CAA) is a key load-resisting mechanism in beam–column sub-assemblages subjected to column removal, while current design practice commonly relies on flexural capacity based on plastic theory. This paper presents a comparative study of CAA and flexural capacity for five two-dimensional precast and post-tensioned concrete beam–column sub-assemblages tested under a middle column removal scenario. Flexural capacity is determined based on plastic theory of fully fixed double-span beams. The results show that the ultimate flexural capacity of prestressed specimens is significantly lower than that of the non-prestressed specimen, despite all specimens being designed to …

Data-Informed Construction Method Selection Considering Carbon Emissions At The Tender Stage: Evidence From A Public Building Project In Vietnam, Huong T. T. Le, Quan T. Nguyen, Luong N. Ho, Quang T. Pham
CIB Conferences
Carbon emissions in the construction phase are largely determined by early project decisions, yet they are rarely incorporated as explicit criteria at the tender stage. Instead, emissions are typically assessed after method selection or treated as qualitative compliance indicators, limiting their influence on decision-making. This study proposes a data-informed approach to construction method selection that integrates carbon emissions into tender-stage evaluation using operational data commonly available in bidding documentation. Rather than relying on full life-cycle assessment models, emissions are estimated from machine power, working shifts, and operating time, and incorporated alongside cost and duration in comparing construction alternatives. The approach …

The increasing digitalisation of construction projects has transformed how information is produced, stored, and exchanged. Yet despite widespread adoption of digital platforms and standards, many projects continue to experience coordination failures, safety issues, and weak organisational learning, suggesting that information availability alone does not guarantee improved outcomes. This paper examines how Project Information Management (PrIM) influences project success in digitalised environments, moving beyond traditional delivery-focused criteria. Using a structured literature-based synthesis of 27 journal articles combined with a mechanism mapping approach, it develops a mechanism-based explanation of how PrIM bridges digital infrastructure and project success through organisational processes. The analysis …

The axial load-bending moment about single axis (P-M) interaction diagram characterizes the uniaxial-bending load capacity of CFRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) columns. Although numerous CFRP-confined concrete models have been proposed in previous studies, the influence of different CFRP-confined concrete models on the P-M interaction behavior of columns has not yet been fully examined. This study investigates the effects of various confined concrete models on the P-M interaction diagrams of a prototype CFRP-strengthened RC columns. Sectional analysis is carried out based on the plane-section assumption and internal force equilibrium, in which the column’s cross-section is discretized into strips parallel to the neutral …

This paper proposes a Bayesian hierarchical model for a Training Effectiveness Index (TEI) inferred from four objective performance proxies: inspection non-conformities, permit-to-work violations, near-miss events, and corrective-action closure time. Applied to data from ten subcontractors over six quarters in Hanoi, Vietnam, seven MAP optimizations all converged to log-posterior = −594.94 and σα = 1.316 (95% CI: 1.193–1.439) confirms identifiable between-subcontractor heterogeneity. LOSO cross-validation (ELPD = −685.0) confirms hyperparameter transferability. Near-miss counts are near-redundant (r = 0.9996 with three-proxy model; max difference 2.8 points). Comparison with PCA and z-score baselines yields r = 0.913. Key limitations - cells-to-parameters ratio of 1.94 …
