Dependent Care, Michael Galobardi, Lisa K. Lashley, Charles J. Golden
Dependent Care, Michael Galobardi, Lisa K. Lashley, Charles J. Golden
Essays in Developmental Psychology
The term dependent care is an umbrella for several types of care regarding family members. One can be the caretaker for disabled children, disabled adult children, or elderly parents. It is expected of parents to perform a supportive role to make sure that children get the services they need from the appropriate health care professionals. Caring for children is only made more difficult when the child, or one of the children has a disability. It is becoming common practice for children with disabilities to be cared for at home in developing countries. Where the complex medical and physical needs of …

Love, Kelsey Grodner, Lisa K. Lashley, Charles J. Golden
Essays in Developmental Psychology
Many have sought to understand the mystifying concept of love including psychologists, philosophers, and theologians. Most research on love focuses on the early bonding between a mother and her infant, and uses this as the exemplar for how any love relationship is formed and maintained throughout the life span. Early in development, the first understanding of love is gathered through the warm connections, nurture and affection experienced through the interaction between the child and parents or caregivers. Many theorists have suggested that the type and success of this early interaction informs how future emotional bonds and relationships are molded throughout …

Aerospace, Physics, and Space Science Student Publications
This experiment intends to elaborate upon the idea that day-side MHD waves and night-side MHD waves both originate from solar winds. After extensive data collection and processing, it can be understood that day-side waves are a result of night-side waves travelling to the day-side post their inception in the night-side.

Progression Of Electrophysiological Impairments In Diabetic Cardiomyopathy And Intervention Using Enicostemma Axillare, Victor Arokia Doss, Dharaniyambigai Kuberapandian
Turkish Journal of Biology
Earlier studies widely reported advanced ventricular impairments only at the later stages of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). The present study aimed to understand the duration-based early to late stages of cardiac electrophysiological impairments using electrocardiography (ECG) and intervention using Enicostema axillare subsp. littorale. The experimental rats were streptozotocin (SZ)-induced diabetic rats that were administered E. axillare formulations as follows: (1) normal; (2) SZ - 40 mg/kg, single, i.p.); (3) SZ + insulin (2 U/day) + losartan (10 mg/kg); (4) SZ + insulin + losartan + E. axillare decoction (2 mL/day); (5) SZ + E. axillare decoction; (6) SZ + E. axillare …

This study demonstrates the 100 g scale manufacture of a plutonium alloy that ages at an accelerated rate. The resulting alloy ages six times faster than typical weapons-grade plutonium due to the addition of 238Pu. As a major innovation, the process involved using a partial direct oxide reduction technique. This method was achieved by developing a new, complex geometry stirrer using additive manufacturing to reduce the 238Pu oxide and efficiently incorporate it into weapons-grade plutonium metal. The material was then purified by molten salt extraction and electrorefining before being alloyed with gallium. The alloy was then cold-rolled and …

Identification Of Areas Of Weakness In Forensic Footwear Research, Kathryn Roy
Identification Of Areas Of Weakness In Forensic Footwear Research, Kathryn Roy
Honors Projects
Forensic footwear examinations have been carried out for almost a century, but the foundational validity of identifying a questioned impression to a particular shoe has been questioned by the National Research Council and the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The focus of this paper was to identify the current weaknesses present in forensic footwear impression research. Additionally, a future experiment was proposed to address these concerns and improve the foundational validity of footwear impression comparisons. A total of 15 footwear research studies varying in methodology and content were analyzed and contrasted. From this, a lack of studies …
The Analysis Of Reference Standard Storage Failures Through The Use Of Ibuprofen, Hope Vonder Brink
The Analysis Of Reference Standard Storage Failures Through The Use Of Ibuprofen, Hope Vonder Brink
Honors Projects
Reference standards are commonly used in drug chemistry. They are used to calibrate the instruments and serve as a known point of reference for analysts’ ability to compare unknowns. Drugs can degrade over time or through environmental factors, causing contaminants to be present. In the event of environmental degradation while in storage, such as the exposure to high heat, it would be beneficial to have a database of known breakdown products in common drug reference standards for analysts’ reference. Using ibuprofen as an exemplar drug, this study attempted to identify the thermal breakdown products of ibuprofen and introduce the proposed …

Using Social Emotional Learning To Connect Social Awareness And Classic Literature, Erin Anderson
Honors Projects
The following case study explores how social-emotional learning (SEL) teaching strategies enhance seventh-grade students’ engagement with classic literature during English Language Arts (ELA) class. Using S.E. Hinton’s classic novella The Outsiders as a foundation for this research, this study examines whether SEL-based lesson plans help adolescents make deeper connections between literature and their own lives. Two groups of students were compared in the study: one group received traditional, comprehension-based instruction, while the other participated in SEL-based assessments, encouraging perspective-taking and personal reflection. This study utilizes qualitative assessments like character analysis, reflection, and surveys to affirm that students who are exposed …

School of Health Professions
BackgroundPostpartum pelvic girdle pain (PGP), experienced by approximately 10% of women, is typically refractory to conservative management. Customised dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses (DEFOs) are one novel option to address this. We assessed the feasibility and acceptability of a randomised controlled trial comparing a DEFO plus standardised advice/exercises (intervention) versus standardised advice/exercise alone (control).MethodsA multicentre randomised controlled feasibility trial with embedded qualitative study and economic evaluation. Participants were randomised to either intervention or control group. All received two remote physiotherapy sessions via videoconferencing separated by 14 days. Primary feasibility outcomes were related to the feasibility and acceptability of methods and interventions, …

[Objective] To explore the anti -inflammatory active ingredients and mechanisms of action of Lycii fructus.[Methods] Network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques were used to screen the main components and targets of Lycii fructus with anti -inflammatory effects.Combined with cell experiments, the anti -inflammatory activity of Lycii fructus extract was evaluated using the RAW 264.7 inflammatory cell model. The Pearson correlation coefficient method was used to analyze the correlation between the main components and inflammatory factors.[Results]] A total of 34 main components and 123 common target genes of Lycii fructus were screened through online databases such as TCMSP,Uniprot, and OMIM.Core targets, including IL-6,TP53,JUN,TNF,AKT 1,and IL1B,were …
