Differentiation Between Infiltrative Cholangiocarcinoma Strictures And Benign Common Bile Duct Strictures Using Multi-Slice Computed Tomography (Mdct), Pornchai Chatchairatanavej, Sopa Pongpornsup, Aphinya Charoensak
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
Objectives: To evaluate CT scan features for differentiating infiltrative cholangiocarcinoma (CC) strictures from benign common bile duct (CBD) strictures.
Methods: CT images of 30 patients with infiltrative CC strictures and 20 patients with benign CBD strictures were reviewed retrospectively by two radiologists. CT features were analyzed regarding location, length of ductal stricture, maximum ductal diameter proximal to stricture, ductal wall thickness, ductal wall enhancement in arterial dominant and portovenous phases, stricture pattern (abrupt vs tapering), and symmetry vs asymmetry. CT features were compared by the chi-square test and the Fisher exact test for descriptive factors, and compared by …

Introduction: In surgical pathology, staining specimens is the most effective method for evaluating margins and orientation. Although Tissue Marking Dyes (TMD) are the standard choice for staining specimens, their high cost is a significant drawback.
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of four TMD, India ink, and poster ink for inking specimens in terms of color shade and intensity, scored on a scale of 0 to 3 based on visibility, in addition to drying time, depth of penetration, interference with cellular and nuclear detail, and cost. The comparison will be made across four specimen types: benign …

Adrenal Insufficiency-Related Outcomes In Patients With Acth-Stimulated Cortisol Levels Of 15–17.9 Μg/Dl Measured By Monoclonal Antibody Assay, Peeradon Vibhatavata, Krittee Santiwanit, Natthinee Charatcharoenwitthaya
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
Introduction: The ACTH stimulation test helps diagnose adrenal insufficiency (AI), with a peak cortisol level above 18 μg/dL indicating normal adrenal function. Monoclonal antibody assays for cortisol measurement suggest a lower threshold of 15 μg/dL, but it remains unclear whether patients with cortisol levels between 15 and 17.9 μg/dL require glucocorticoid replacement therapy (GRT).
Aim: To evaluate clinical outcomes of patients with peak cortisol levels of 15-17.9 μg/dL post-ACTH stimulation test who received or did not receive GRT.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in adult patients who underwent ACTH stimulation tests with peak cortisol levels of …

Queerly Writing, Queerly Researching: Using Art-Based Research To Re-Examine My Past And The Imagined Future Of Queer Educators, Matthew Panozzo
Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education
Through my own coming out process, I turned to LGBTQ+ books as mentors and guides on how to live authentically. These texts shaped my time as a middle and high school English teacher, as well as my time as a doctoral student. This article uses excerpts from Caught Between Closets (Panozzo, 2020), a social fiction written as my doctoral dissertation, to explore and highlight the way queer K-12 educators navigate personal and professional closets. These excerpts were written using a reiterative process (writing to research; researching to write) to re-examine personal experiences, empirical research, multimodal texts, and grey literature. This …

Faith In The Therapy Room: A Qualitative Study Of Canadian Immigrant Clients' Untold Stories, Sandra Dixon, Juliane Bell
Faith In The Therapy Room: A Qualitative Study Of Canadian Immigrant Clients' Untold Stories, Sandra Dixon, Juliane Bell
The Journal of Faith, Education, and Community
Immigration to Canada brings cultural diversity, but also stressors and challenges that impact mental well-being. Spirituality recognizes the profound significance of relational knowing, manifesting in external appreciation for meaningful experiences with others that provide purpose. Despite the importance of faith in many immigrants' lives, mental health professionals often overlook spiritual and religious convictions. This descriptive qualitative study addressed this gap by conducting semi-structured interviews with 10 immigrant clients of faith in a diverse Canadian province. Purposive and snowball sampling were used for participant recruitment. NVivo 12 software facilitated efficient data management and analysis, and Braun and Clarke's (2006) six-phase framework …
Relational Pedagogy For Teaching The History Of American Religion In Collegiate Classrooms, Pearl Young
Relational Pedagogy For Teaching The History Of American Religion In Collegiate Classrooms, Pearl Young
The Journal of Faith, Education, and Community
There is something odd about teaching religious history in collegiate classrooms. Most academic historians agree that religion is central to the history of any society, yet discussions of religious history or even religious culture are strikingly peripheral to historical narratives taught in college classrooms. Instructors frequently sidestep religion, deeming it too personal and divisive for an objective, scientific study so frequently associated with the academic field of history.
I argue that a more deliberate approach, one of relational pedagogy, overcomes these obstacles while recognizing the legitimacy of such concerns. This approach serves students well and can cover a breadth of …

Relational Spiritual Knowing As An Educator Of Color: Navigating Predominantly White Educational Settings, Alicia L. Moore
The Journal of Faith, Education, and Community
Abstract: This article explores the critical role of Relational Spiritual Knowing (RSK) as both a source of strength and a form of activism for African American educators navigating Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). Through personal reflections and scholarly correlations, it examines how RSK empowers educators to assert their voices and identities in environments that have historically marginalized them. The integration of RSK into educational practices is presented as essential for creating more inclusive, equitable, and spiritually enriched academic spaces. The article also highlights the systemic challenges faced by African American educators, such as power dynamics, microaggressions, and tokenism, and how RSK …
Parody And Mis-Unda-Stendings In Comics Art World: Bridging The Gap With New Criteria, Yannis Koukoulas
Parody And Mis-Unda-Stendings In Comics Art World: Bridging The Gap With New Criteria, Yannis Koukoulas
SANE journal: Sequential Art Narrative in Education
The word parody and its many cognates such as appropriation, adaptation, pastiche, travesty, forgery, homage, tribute, swipe, etc., have often been at the centre of fierce debates within the traditional Artworld and various criteria have been proposed for the critical evaluation of visual and literary works. In particular, parody as a dominant practice in postmodern art is a concept that is subject to misunderstandings as to its content and meaning. In Comics Artworld, however, within which recontextualizing practices are very common, often with humorous content, the attempt to describe artists' works and intentions by the criteria applied to other arts, …
Decolonizing Relational Spiritual Knowing In The Context Of Human Connections, Diana Wandix-White, Vicki Mokuria
Decolonizing Relational Spiritual Knowing In The Context Of Human Connections, Diana Wandix-White, Vicki Mokuria
The Journal of Faith, Education, and Community
Decolonizing spiritual engagement in human connections involves reimagining how we challenge relational epistemology, overcome relational dissonance, and discover relational value. By transcending individual religious frameworks, we access a deeper, collective spirituality that bridges divides. Relational spiritual knowing taps into the core of our humanity, fostering connections even to those with whom we seem to disagree at every turn and with whom we share no obvious bond. This editorial serves to introduce relational spiritual knowing as a tool to dismantle barriers that cause isolation and inequity, discrimination and disconnection, and misconceptions and misunderstandings in relationships. The articles in this special issue …

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Objectives: The optimal management approach for patients with cryptogenic stroke and patent foramen ovale (PFO) remains uncertain. Whether medical therapy—using antiplatelet agents or anticoagulants—or transcatheter device closure offers superior protection against stroke recurrence has been a topic of considerable debate. This systematic review aims to assess and compare the effectiveness of these two treatment strategies, incorporating recent studies to provide updated insights on the most effective approach to preventing recurrent cryptogenic stroke. Methodology: We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, and Ovid database through December 2024. Eligible studies were randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) comparing PFO closure versus medical therapy among patients …

Efficacy And Safety Of Concomitant Surgical Ablation During Mitral Valve Replacement: A Systematic Review, Omar Hamodat, Saif Almuzainy, Rand Yahya, Razan Alzaatreh, Samiullah Haroon, Salam Koniali
Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common comorbidity in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery (MVS), significantly increasing the risk of thromboembolism, heart failure, and mortality. Surgical ablation has recently been given a Class IA recommendation for concomitant MVS, reinforcing its role in restoring sinus rhythm and improving outcomes in this population. However, concerns about procedural complexity, extended operative time, and postoperative risks have limited its widespread adoption. This systematic review aims to synthesize evidence from recent randomized controlled trials to evaluate the safety and efficacy of surgical ablation for AF in patients undergoing MVS, addressing critical gaps in current clinical …

The Role Of Urbanization And Corticosterone In Auditory Sensory Processing In House Sparrows (Passer Domesticus), Brooke Fox, Ashley Lauraine, Hannah Peterson
24th Annual A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (2025)
Urban habitat expansion will introduce new anthropogenic challenges for wildlife populations, including habitat fragmentation, novel predators, and pollution. These challenges may hinder animal communication and contribute to increased stress levels. This study will investigate the physiological consequences of stressors on the house sparrow (Passer domesticus). Specifically, we will examine how urbanization affects stress hormone (i.e., corticosterone, CORT) levels and its relationship to auditory processing. It is predicted that urbanization may impose novel stressors on animals, leading to differences in this hormone across urban and rural birds. We seek to understand if differences in CORT levels could impact animals' …

At Christian Colleges and Universities (CCUs), studies estimate that approximately 12% of a given college's student population identifies as LGBTQ+ (REAP, 2021). Unfortunately, research literature also indicates that LGBTQ+ college students experience significant challenges, including, but not limited to, discrimination from peers and staff, alienation from the wider campus environment, and inhospitable housing conditions (REAP, 2021; Rankin et al. 2019; Kortegast, 2017; Craig et al. 2017; Wolff et al. 2016, Christie, 2021). Academic research on LGBTQ+ students at CCUs is somewhat limited, even more so research that uses a qualitative orientation, attempting to gain in-depth insights into LGBTQ+ students' experiences. …
